Hi Huneybees,

Sofitel Singapore City Centre is delighted to launch The Local Table Afternoon Tea in celebration of Singapore's 58th birthday. Indulge in an epicurean afternoon tea experience, inspired by nostalgic flavours that are close to every Singaporean's heart.

Be charmed by 11 delightful treats, including five savoury items and six sweets, all carefully crafted to tantalise the taste buds. Highlights include Foie Gras Butter with Curried Caramelised Candy, featuring creamy foie gras atop a crispy toast, topped with candy wok tossed with curry spices; Plant-based Otah with Spiced Lychee Lime Salsa, which is a delightful twist on the traditional otah, elevated with spiced lychee lime salsa; as well as Musang King Durian Puff, with the treasured Musang King durian variety encased in a cream puff pastry, finished with luscious durian crème chantilly.

Savouries
Highlights include the Chilli Crab Roll, where chunks of blue swimmer crabmeat marinated in sweet, tangy chilli crab sauce are encased in a brioche bun and topped with caviar for a luxurious burst of briny flavour.

Another treat which takes an innovative twist is the Foie Gras Butter with Curried Caramelised Candy – where creamy foie gras butter on a light toast is topped with caramelised sugar that is infused with curry and spices, resulting in a fragrant bite with layers of fun textures.

No Singaporean would be a stranger to the Otah, where a plant-based alternative is presented here along with spiced lychee lime salsa, bringing together an unexpectedly delicious flavour and texture combination that elevates the Otah’s umami notes.

Sweets
From the highly valued Musang King to the familiar and aromatic scent of pandan leaves, relish an ensemble of exquisitely crafted elegant sweet treats incorporating everyday Singaporean flavours. Stealing the show is the aesthetically pleasing Musang King Durian Puff – where the treasured durian variety is encased in a cream puff pastry and finished with ‘spikes’ made of luscious durian crème chantilly.

Another creation putting a spotlight on Singapore’s perennial favourite is the Pandan Chiffon Cake, which comes in the form of a fluffy and moist cake topped with silky coconut namelaka cream glaze and a touch of 24k gold flakes for a fanciful finish. No afternoon tea experience is complete without scones, and the Local Table version has taken the classic pastry for a local spin with Cempedak Scones served with house-made jackfruit jam and clotted cream.

The Local Table Afternoon Tea is available from 1 to 31 August 2023, from 2pm to 5pm in 1864. Priced at $118++ for a set (serves two persons), including a choice of two premium tea from TWG, or

Countdown to 2022 Safely With Fireworks Display At Your Heartland Homes

| |

Hi Huneybees,

It's time to send 2021 away and sadly this year it will be the second year running with no Marina Bay Countdown fireworks display. The Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) has strongly urged people to "avoid crowded places and enjoy the New Year's Eve celebration from home".

But that doesn't mean that we won't be able to catch some sparkly fireworks in action as we countdown to 2022.

The People's Association of Singapore (PA) has organised smaller firework displays to be set off in the heartland at the first strike of 2022. You can watch these multi-coloured delights from the comfort of your home if you live in these locations: Bedok, Bishan, Boon Lay, Buona Vista, Chua Chu Kang, Hougang, Kembangan-Chai Chee, Sembawang, Tampines and Woodlands.

PA's Grassroots Organisations (GROs) will also be organizing 15 virtual year-end countdown community programs to connect residents in a safe way and as a community. Ranging from musical skits, comedy shows, and singing and dance performances, to games and quizzes.

Find out more about your neighbourhood's virtual celebrations by visiting the Facebook pages of the GRCs you live in.

Cheers to a brand new year!
Let's not forget what we have to go through this year and work towards a better tomorrow!
Happy New Year!!!!  🥰🥰🥰

Are you ready to usher in the Year of the Pig? Have you gone to Chinatown yet? Here's a little preview of what to expect and also a lookback of the official lighting up of the Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations 2019

Themed “Celebration of Abundance and Prosperity” (新春大吉福满城 欣欣向荣庆丰年), this year’s festival explodes with a line-up of crowd-favorite activities that will all take place under a brilliant contemporary light-up where tradition meets high-tech design.

Dr Lily Neo was there to officiate the light-up ceremony and there was songs and dance performances, lion dance troupes and also stage sketch to keep the night going as the festive crowd went about their Chinese New Year shopping.

There's a ton of special events and festive programmes planned for the close to two-month celebration that will be held from 20 January  to 6 March 2019. 3 Must-Visit Hightlights At This Year's ChinaTown CNY Celebration

| |
Hi Huneybees,

When I drove past Chinatown last Saturday and saw the familiar long queue for a particular famous Bak Kwa store, I realized I was behind others in preparation for the coming Chinese New Year (CNY)!

While one could get all the CNY necessities from your heartland Pasar Malam (aka night bazaar stores) or even better, delivered straight to your doorstep like what yours truly Queen Bee loves to do since her discovery of some CNY specialty online stores a few years back, nothing, in my opinion, beats shopping at Chinatown (牛车水) during this time of the year as it is the best place to soak up the CNY atmosphere.

Apart from the magnificent display of 2,688 beautifully handcrafted lanterns with 180 expertly sculptured pig lanterns dotting the main streets of Chinatown, there are 3 Must-Visit highlights at this year's Chinatown CNY celebration 2019:

Traditional Cantonese Opera Performances
19&20; 26&27 Jan 2019
7.00pm to 10.00pm
At the newly-renovated Kreta Ayer People's Theatre (牛车水人民剧场) with over 940 seats to accommodate, you enjoy traditional 'wayang' show in Cantonese within this air-conditioned theatre and take a break from all the CNY shopping and crowd.

Chinatown Wishing Tree
15 Jan - 3 Feb 2019
11.00am to 9.00pm
Make your wishes come true under the Wishin Tree housed within Chinatown Point. Each Make-A-Wish card costs $2 each and all proceeds collected will benefit Kreta Ayer Seniors' Activity Centre for the underprivileged elderly residing in Chinatown.

12th International Lion Dance Competition
26 Jan 2019
6.30pm to 10.30pm
10 teams of Lion Dane Troupe from 10 countries will come together and pit their skills on the meihuazhuang (Plum Blossom Poles) and compete for the champion title of ' King of the Lions'. Be sure to come early to get your seats and support your favorite team!

There's also other activities to check out and soak up the festive spirit with your friends and families. We have the Chinatown Walking Trail, Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations 2019 Official Light-Up and Opening Ceremony on 20 January 2019, Nightly Stage Shows right within Kreta Ayer Square and not forgetting the Chinatown Chinese New Year Countdown Party on 4 February 2019.

There's also a Pineapple Tart Making Workshop on 27 January 2019 at Kreta Ayer Community Club, you can purchase tickets at $5 for a family of up to 5 pax and participants are strongly encouraged to come as three generations.

We are also looking forward to the Chingay2019@ Heartlands that's going to be held on 17 February 2019 at 6pm to 10pm. The 10 special Chingay floats will make their special appearances and it will be the best time to go up close and personal to them and capture special moments too! It will be held along New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street, so be sure to mark your calendars for it!

Ok, I will need to get back to help Queen Bee with the CNY preparations, if you would like to know more and get details about the Chinese New Year celebrations along Chinatown, go to www.chinatownfestivals.sg, www.facebook.com/Chinatown.Festivals, www.instagram.com/chinatown_festival.
