Bloomyard Singapore: Step Into a Larger-Than-Life Floral Playground at IMBA Theatre

| |

Hi Huneybees,

IMBA Theatre has done it again, opening something completely different this September and transforming its space at Gardens by the Bay into a larger-than-life floral playground: Bloomyard, created in collaboration with British creative duo Graphic Rewilding.

Oversized blooms, swings surrounded by flowers, garden mini golf and even flower-shaped table tennis tables. Basically, this is one garden where you're actually encouraged to play.

Yes, children are probably going to have a blast here, but for the grown-ups? Consider this your permission to play again.

Catherine Borowski and Lee Baker, artists behind Graphic Rewilding, with their artwork Flower Clouds in London.

Stepping Into Graphic Rewilding's Larger-Than-Life Garden

Behind all those giant flowers are artists Catherine Borowski and Lee Baker, the UK-based duo behind Graphic Rewilding.

Their work takes inspiration from the natural world, beginning with observations and hand-drawn imagery of flowers, plants and tiny details before magnifying them into bold, colourful environments. They describe their approach as “microscopic maximalism”, which feels pretty fitting once you see how something as delicate as a flower can suddenly dominate an entire space.

For Bloomyard, that artistic language has been transformed into an immersive playground. Instead of simply looking at the botanical artwork around you, you're invited to walk through it, sit amongst it and, most importantly, play inside it.

It's Art You Don't Have to Admire From a Distance

What makes Bloomyard interesting to me is that it blurs that line between an exhibition and a playground.

Graphic Rewilding's botanical imagery is still very much the visual star of the experience, but instead of creating an environment where visitors simply photograph the artwork and move along, the installations become part of what you're doing.

You swing amongst the flowers.
You play amongst them.
You wander through them.

That makes Bloomyard feel less like visiting a conventional gallery and more like briefly stepping into someone else's colourful imagination.

And perhaps that's also a reminder that experiencing art doesn't always have to be serious, sometimes you're allowed to just have fun with it.

Swing, Putt and Rally Among the Flowers

Once you've walked through the floral arch, there are several activities scattered throughout Bloomyard.

You can hop onto the flower swings, bounce upon the beautiful blooms on the trampoline, challenge someone to a game at the flower-shaped table tennis tables, or test your putting skills around the garden mini-golf course, complete with slopes, twists and curves.

Of course, it makes ahn amazing family activity spot but I think it could also make a rather cute date idea in Singapore too ~

When was the last time you challenged your partner or friends to mini golf surrounded by giant flowers?
Kids don't need permission to play.
Adults sometimes need reminding that we're still allowed to.

Take a Breather at The Bloomery

After all that swinging, putting and rallying, there's The Bloomery café within the experience where you can stop for a drink, with coffee, tea, hot chocolate and matcha on the menu.

You can also browse Bloomyard merchandise featuring Graphic Rewilding's botanical designs, including stickers, prints and T-shirts.

If you're looking to brighten up your home with some colourful florals, the prints are definitely worth checking out. They're Singapore exclusives, making them a rather special piece of Bloomyard to bring home.

A Little Tip Before You Visit

Here's something worth keeping in mind if you're planning your visit: the different play stations have limited capacity.

There are six golf clubs, six swings, five table tennis tables and only a handful of trampolines, so you may have to wait your turn when Bloomyard gets busy.

If you have some flexibility, I'd consider visiting on a weekday or during an off-peak period, when you may have more time to enjoy the activities without feeling rushed.

Botero in Singapore: A Landmark Exhibition Arrives at Gardens by the Bay and IMBA Theatre

Hi Huneybees,

Singapore is about to host one of the most significant art presentations the city has ever seen. For the first time in Southeast Asia, the works of Maestro Fernando Botero - one of the most recognisable and beloved artists in modern art, will take centre stage in a sweeping, multi-format showcase across Gardens by the Bay and the brand-new IMBA Theatre.

Titled Botero in Singapore, this landmark presentation brings together nearly 130 original works and unfolds across three distinct experiences: monumental outdoor sculptures set among lush gardens, a major gallery exhibition drawn from the Botero family collection, and the world’s first immersive audiovisual journey dedicated to the artist’s life. It is not only the largest Botero showcase ever staged globally, but also a defining opening statement for IMBA Theatre as it launches in early 2026.

Where Art Meets Nature: Monumental Botero Sculptures at Gardens by the Bay

The experience begins outdoors, where Botero’s signature bronze sculptures have already transformed parts of Gardens by the Bay into an open-air gallery. Six monumental works now stand within the Silver Garden, with four more set to arrive at IMBA Theatre, forming an expansive presentation titled Garden Grandeur.

Botero long believed that art should exist beyond museum walls, becoming part of everyday life. Set against sweeping greenery and the iconic skyline, these sculptures feel both playful and powerful. Their exaggerated forms and rounded volumes are instantly recognisable, yet seeing them at this scale and being surrounded by nature and open sky, adds a new sense of warmth and accessibility. You are encouraged to walk around them, photograph them, and simply spend time in their presence, allowing moments of humour, reflection, and delight to unfold naturally.

Unveiled on 23 January 2026 by Fernando Botero Zea, Co-President of the Fernando Botero Foundation, alongside IMBA CEO Michael Lee and Gardens by the Bay CEO Felix Loh, these sculptures mark the public’s first encounter with the exhibition serving as and an early glimpse of how Botero’s art thrives in shared civic spaces.

Botero: Heart of Volume

Heart of Volume: A Rare Look Inside the Botero Family Collection

While the outdoor sculptures introduce Botero’s monumental language, the heart of the exhibition lies inside IMBA Theatre. Opening on 13 February 2026, Heart of Volume presents 118 paintings, drawings, and indoor sculptures spanning Botero’s extraordinary 70-year career.

Drawn directly from the collection of the Botero family, this exhibition offers an unusually intimate and comprehensive perspective on his legacy. You will encounter everything from delicate studies and luminous watercolours to fully realised compositions that showcase his theatrical staging and masterful control of colour and form. Together, the works trace the evolution of his distinctive “Boterismo” style - a visual language defined by volume, balance, and a quietly subversive sense of humour.

Beyond the instantly recognisable rounded figures, the exhibition reveals Botero’s deep engagement with art history. Echoes of Classical and Renaissance traditions sit alongside the influence of modern masters such as Picasso, demonstrating the discipline and historical awareness behind his seemingly playful compositions. This is an opportunity to see the precision and intention behind a style that has become one of the most iconic in contemporary art.

Early bird tickets for Heart of Volume go on sale on 30 January 2026, ahead of the exhibition’s opening.

Botero: A Life in Fullness

A Life in Fullness: The World’s First Immersive Botero Experience

If Heart of Volume explores Botero’s artistic mastery, A Life in Fullness invites audiences into his personal world. Opening on 6 March 2026, this 45-minute immersive experience is the first of its kind dedicated to the artist and has been created in close collaboration with the Fernando Botero Foundation.

Narrated by Botero’s eldest son, Fernando Botero Zea, the experience unfolds as an intimate audiovisual journey through the artist’s life. Through a blend of animation, archival materials, and spatial storytelling, visitors move through scenes that illuminate Botero not just as a global art figure, but as a father, a rebel, and a man shaped by love, loss, and resilience. His iconic forms come alive in motion, revealing the emotional depth and personal stories behind the monumental works.

More than a digital spectacle, the experience feels like a tribute - a deeply personal letter from son to father, offering a rare emotional dimension to an artist whose work is so often associated with humour and visual exuberance.

Early bird tickets for A Life in Fullness will also be available from 30 January 2026.

IMBA Theatre’s Grand Debut

Botero in Singapore also marks a defining milestone for IMBA Theatre, a new cultural venue purpose-built for immersive experiences and large-scale exhibitions. Located within Gardens by the Bay, IMBA is designed to present art in formats that feel open, engaging, and grounded in human experience, encouraging curiosity across generations.

By launching with the most ambitious Botero presentation ever staged, IMBA signals its intent to position Singapore as a gateway for major global cultural showcases in Southeast Asia. The exhibition sets the tone for the institution’s future direction, where storytelling, technology, and fine art intersect.

Beyond the Exhibition: Botero Across the City

The celebration of Botero’s legacy extends beyond IMBA Theatre and the Gardens. From 8 January to 1 March 2026, five of his masterpieces will be displayed at Shangri-La Singapore, where guests can also enjoy a Botero-inspired afternoon tea at The Rose Veranda which is a culinary tribute that translates his bold and exuberant spirit into an elegant dining experience.

* For more details, please refer to Shangri-La Singapore’s website.

In another unexpected collaboration, Botero’s visual language enters the world of automotive design through a partnership with BMW Eurokars Auto. Two BMW models have been transformed into moving works of art in a world-first showcase running from 23 January to 22 February 2026 at the BMW Eurokars Experience Centre, expanding the artist’s legacy beyond traditional exhibition spaces.

Running through 18 May 2026, Botero in Singapore is more than an art exhibition, it is a citywide cultural moment. Whether you are deeply familiar with Botero’s world or discovering it for the first time, this landmark showcase will definitely let you to step into a universe where volume, emotion, and humanity take centre stage.

[SG60 Special] Gardens by the Bay Lights Up SG60 with Fireflies, Flowers & Free Concerts

| |
0 comments
Hi Huneybees,

Last night was pure magic at Gardens by the Bay as they officially kicked off their SG60 celebrations with "SPARK", a mesmerising firefly-inspired light installation, and the return of the much-loved "Orchid Extravaganza" at Flower Dome!

And yes, I made it just in time to catch "SPARK" in action under the stars. Thousands of glowing, biodegradable light sparks rise and fall gently in the tropical air, like fireflies dancing in slow motion. It felt like I had stepped into a dreamy Studio Ghibli scene!

This is the first time "SPARK" has landed in Southeast Asia, and it's here for only four nights (until 3 August 2025!) at Supertree Grove Lawn. The installation is the brainchild of Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde and supported by GIC, the Tote Board, and the Embassy of the Netherlands, which also celebrates 60 years of diplomatic ties with Singapore this year. What a beautiful double celebration!

Each floating spark is a poetic reimagination of fireworks, but gentler and more sustainable. The kids around me were absolutely enchanted as they tried to “catch” them mid-air, and I had a blast experimenting with light photography. If you’re planning a romantic night out or a family date, this is one experience not to miss before the weekend ends.

Orchid Extravaganza 2025(兰花盛事)

Over at the Flower Dome, "Orchid Extravaganza" is back with over 6,000 stunning orchids in full bloom! This year’s theme proudly celebrates our local heritage, with floral displays that weave in everything from Singapore's national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim, to uniquely named hybrids like Papilionanda Chua Chu Kang and Vanda KK Women's and Children's Hospital.

(Photo Credits: Gardens by the Bay)

What stole the show? Three towering orchid-clad Supertrees right inside the dome where you can walk right into the tallest one for an immersive orchid wonderland experience! There’s also a beautiful tribute to Peranakan culture, complete with floral recreations of traditional interiors inspired by the iconic play "Emily of Emerald Hill". Cultural Medallion recipient Mr Lee Hock Moh’s intricate orchid paintings are also on display, including his SG60 piece "Dancing Petals, Joyful Laughter" (飞跃花丛送欢声), featuring six parrots symbolising six decades of Singapore’s unity and success.
(Photo Credits: Gardens by the Bay)

Add to that stunning gold-plated orchid brooches by RISIS, authentic kebayas and beaded slippers from Rumah Kim Choo, and historical artefacts from the Peranakan Museum, and you have the perfect weekend plan for culture lovers!

In celebration of SG60, you also get to enjoy a complimentary all-access adult ticket to the Peranakan Museum with each Flower Dome ticket, Friends of the Gardens e-card, or SG60 Wonder Blooms pass.

Orchid Extravaganza runs till 31 August 2025.
Admission to Flower Dome applies.
*Psst… there’s even a social media contest where you could win a RISIS gold orchid brooch! Visit www.gardensbythebay.com.sg/orchids for more information.

What Else is Happening This August?

The SG60 vibes don’t stop here. Gardens by the Bay has lined up more free events in August to keep the celebrations going:

Adding a special touch to the evening are performances by local family duos: JJ Neo and her mother Lucy Neo; Rahimah Rahim, her sister Rozie Rahim and granddaughter Alyaa; siblings Tay Kewei and Tay Kexin; and husband-and-wife duo Mark Sara and Annetha Ayyavoo!

The Purple Symphony (TPS) – Singapore’s largest inclusive orchestra of musicians with and without disabilities – will also bring audiences a heartfelt medley of familiar local tunes, blending Eastern and Western instruments in a moving tribute to Singapore’s 60th birthday.
So, don’t forget your picnic mats!

NDP 2025 Bay Celebrations
📍The Meadow | 9 August 2025 | 4.15pm – 9.00pm

Catch a live telecast of the National Day Parade right at Gardens by the Bay, with live performances happening on-site too. This is the first time the Marina Bay area is an official satellite site for the NDP, and Gardens by the Bay is the perfect place if you want to soak up the patriotic vibes without the crowds at the Padang!

From floating sparks to blooming orchids, Gardens by the Bay is pulling out all the stops for SG60, and I’m loving every second of it! Whether you’re looking for a romantic date night idea, an educational family outing, or just a magical way to soak up Singapore’s birthday month, this is the place to be! Don’t forget to bring your camera, wear comfy shoes, and catch the fireflies before they flutter away!

Looking to the Future, Celebrating the Past

This series of events goes beyond celebration – it’s also about deepening the bonds between the people of both nations. Earlier this year, a joint logo was unveiled in Seoul to mark this special 50th anniversary, featuring symbolic elements from both countries’ national flags.

“With this year marking the establishment of the Korea-Singapore Strategic Partnership as well as the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations amid rising geopolitical tensions, I will do my best to ensure that Korea and Singapore continue to strengthen their partnership through various practical cooperation and the deepening of the friendship between the people of the two countries.” --- Ambassador Hong Jin-wook

In addition, Singapore’s National Museum and the National Folk Museum of Korea will sign a three-year agreement to collaborate on heritage and cultural initiatives, including the use of technology in the arts.

The commemorative logo marking 50 years of friendship between Singapore and South Korea features symbolic elements and colors drawn from both national flags. Thoughtfully integrated with the number '50', the design reflects the enduring partnership and shared spirit of collaboration between the two nations.

From humble beginnings in 1975, when Singapore and South Korea first established diplomatic relations on August 8, the two countries have grown a strong and dynamic partnership across trade, technology, and culture. This year’s celebrations are not just about looking back – they’re a joyful look forward to what lies ahead.

So whether you're a fan of K-culture, a curious foodie, or someone who simply loves a good festival, 2025 is the perfect time to explore all things Korean – right here in Singapore!
