Hi Huneybees,

It's Summer time! Let's bring out your inner child get out and explore under the sun at the As You Were is a public art showcase. From now till 30 October, 5 public art installations will be spanned across 3 park spaces in Singapore (Bishan-AMK Park, Jurong Lake Gardens, Punggol Waterway Park) for your 'playtime'.

Commissioned by the Public Art Trust (PAT) under the National Arts Council (NAC), As You Were is a public art showcase featuring seven artists stepping into nature to create interactive visual artworks that portray their imaginations of an endemic world.

These works were developed based on the multitude of changes experienced in our daily lives since the onset of COVID-19. As You Were offers the public an opportunity to reconnect with nature as well as one another through fun and meaningful artworks that encourage a sense of play. It is also a reflection of the nation opening up, and the artworks serve as a timely reminder for the public to connect, communicate and play as we step out of the pandemic.

Encouraging play by evoking nostalgia

Nostalgia was a primary source of inspiration for the works – with Small Moments by Chong Zhi Wei Daniel; n o o n (at play) by visual artist Hazel Lim and installation artist Adeline Kueh; and Can You Hear Me? by Quek Jia Qi and Aaron Lim draws on familiar objects that gesture towards the bygone days.

The artists enlarged objects representative of one’s childhood, which serve as encouragement and reminders for the public to heal and play together after a challenging two years. Members of the public are invited to unleash their inner child as they find amusement at a giant Marie biscuit looming over visitors in Small Moments, or rest from the demands of the day with the set of seesaws in n o o n (at play).

Beyond evoking a sense of camaraderie, the works aim to create a deeper connection with our natural environment. Echoing a much-used phrase in the age of Zoom calls, Can You Hear Me? invites all to cultivate the art of active listening by taking solace in the sounds of nature through a paper cup telephone. By carving spaces for intimate interaction, the public is invited to contemplate and renegotiate ideas of togetherness today.

Natural landscape transformed by creative imagination

Location: Jurong Lake Gardens, Forest Ramble (Google Maps Link)

Taking the idea of contemplation into the wider community, artists such as Teo Huey Ling and Ang Song Nian produced works that encourage the public to press on collectively - be it through the whimsical and playful shapes that resemble daydreams in Our Dreams Must Continue or Ang Song Nian’s nod to the iconic face mask in Afloat, an object that has come to represent an act of solidarity of those around the world in fighting the pandemic.

As You Were represents the resilience of the arts community during the COVID-19 pandemic, where artists are going beyond their usual practice to exercise their creative imagination, and make art that is widely visible and accessible to all. This showcase sees the majority of the artists experimenting in public art for the first time, and the result is an innovative effort to create meaningful art that inspires and resonates with a wider audience. This also reiterates NAC’s commitment to make art accessible to the public in everyday spaces, adding vibrancy to the visual arts landscape.

In line with this new series of commissions, NAC will launch a Public Art Guidebook to equip commissioners and artists with the best practices to develop public art for Singapore. This echoes NAC’s commitment to work in tandem with the arts community and foster partnerships among Government agencies, strengthening our art ecosystem for a vibrant arts scene. This guidebook will be available on NAC’s website.

For more information on the participating artists and their artworks, head on over to NAC's website or follow the latest updates at NAC on Facebook and Instagram.

5 Recommended Instagram Worthy Chinese New Year Spots For Photoshoot

| |
Hi Huneybees,

"Dong-Dong-Dong-Chiang! Dong-Dong-Dong-Chiang!" It's gona be a brand new year in the Lunar Calendar in a week's time and every year, I will do a Chinese New Year E-Greeting to all my friends and families to wish them all the best in the year to come.

So, if you are intending to do the same like me or happen to be visiting Singapore or perhaps looking for other beautiful, festive Instagram-worthy photography options instead of the crowded Chinatown, you have got to check out my list of  CNY alternatives.

Ready? Do you have your firecrackers and monkey props? Here we go!

1) Giordano at Suntec City

Who says shopping is boring?! I stumbled upon this lovely set within the Giordano store in Suntec City Mall and it's photo booth ready with props. It's definitely bringing in customers for the store and makes a great photo ready backdrop to usher in all the wealth and prosperity!

2) Orchard Central

After winning the best dressed mall during the Christmas period, Orchard Central have outdone themselves for Chinese New Year by transforming the mall front into 花果山 (Flower Fruit Mountain) where the fabled 孙悟空 (Sun WuKong aka Monkey King) from Journey to the West lives.

But well, being a hot mall along the Orchard Road stretch is not a a good place for photography. Everyone is trying to get a picture and they don't mind getting into yours. Good luck getting everyone out of the way...

I should have worn a 'cheongsam' eh?

3) IMM

At the main entrance right outside the Coach outlet store, there is this lovely "backyard" full of flowers that not only makes a great space for photography, but also for resting and taking a break from all the amazing sales deals!

4) AMK Hub

Being a suburban mall in the heart of Ang Mo Kio, AMK Hub do put in a lot of heart in their festive decorations. They have gotten all 12 animals from the Zodiac out to play at their front door and this is the only place I spot a female Monkey being used for decoration...

Oh! I name this the little River Hongbao in the North, coz this lantern characters light up at 7pm and they remind me of those specially designed lanterns at the River Hongbao every year. :)

5) Northpoint

Well, need I say more? With a pot of gold tree that big, why shouldn't I be standing under its shade 24/7 eh? Who knows, I might even strike it rich just being shaking those gold coins off. Tehehehehe...

So, these are my few suggestions, have you got any to share too? I would definitely to see those photographs. And here's wishing you my Huneybees, Gong Xi Fa Cai and all the best in Wealth, Health and Beauty in this brand new Monkey Year! =D

I'm In Love With The Cheesy Baked Crab At Hualong Fishhead Steamboat

| |
Hi Huneybees,

Looking for new places to gather after a tired day of work? Fancy some casual Zi Char, why not come join me at Hualong Fishhead Steamboat in Ang Mo Kio? I super love their Cheesy Baked Crab tossed with Salted Egg (黃金鹹蛋芝士焗蟹), coz not everyone does crab in this style and everything tastes so much better with my favourite CHEESE!!!!

As described by ladyironchef - "Zi Char (also known as Zhi Char/Cze Char/Tze Char/Zhu Chao) is a term used to describe a wallet-friendly, home-style cuisine from a Chinese stall, which serves a variety of ala-carte dishes and leaves you spoiled for choice."

So, this place that I am recommending is not only light on the wallets, you can also choose from a wide variety of delicacy. Here's some of what I would suggest...

Start off the dinner with a big helping of Imperial Shark's Fin with Conpoy & Crabmeat (海皇干貝魚翅). Though the Shark's Fin was more of a subtle touch to the soup, I liked the large helping of crab meat in it. Try having the soup with green chilli, it will bring out the flavour even better than the conventional way of adding black vinegar and pepper.

Then have a plate of Homemade Beancurd with Crispy Radish Floss (家鄉菜脯豆腐) to share. The beancurd is fried to the right crispiness on the outside, leaving it soft on the inside. I love the crispy radish floss on the top and I can't stop munching on them, I can have just this dish to go with my rice. :)

And of course, not forgetting the Cheesy Baked Crab tossed with Salted Egg (黃金鹹蛋芝士焗蟹) mentioned above. This is the one time, where I will be licking the shell for the sauce and I find that the kids will love it too! The meat is fresh and the shells have already been cracked for easy dining. You don't even need to use the shell cracker...

Another style of crab dish would be the Signature White Pepper Crab (白胡椒螃蟹). I never liked my crabs being too spicy, but this would actually be my alternative choice to the Cheesy Baked Crab.

Lastly, you can have the Duo Scallop Combination (鴛鴦雙拼帶子) where the scallops on the outside is crisp-fried and sautéed with XO Sauce for those in the basket. It very refreshing to have 2 styles of scallop in a dish with the XO Sauce bringing out the freshness of the scallop, whilst the crisp-fried version locks in the sweetness of the scallop, bringing the ocean to you within a dish.

And don't forget dessert! This nice cool bowl of Sweet Temptation (今日甜點 - 龍眼) is here to cool you down from the spicy White Pepper Crab and also our warm weather, leaving you going home, licking for more.

Those are just some of my favourites at the stall. You can also find some of their specialty dishes like the Spinach with Jade Abalone (菠菜扒冬菇玉鮑), Herbal Stewed Duck with Sea Cucumber (藥材海參鴨), Clams(Lala) Stir-fried with Chef's Butter Garlic Sauce (牛蒜炒啦啦) or Signature Wok-fried White Beehoon (華龍招牌白米粉) if you are bringing more friends and family...

Hungry yet? Make a date and come on over, enjoy a nice meal at Hualong Fishhead Steamboat. But be sure to make reservations before heading down as it is usually pretty packed. I like that the service is good, dishes get served fast and piping hot. The dishes are also pretty special and some are uniquely theirs, standing out amongst the usual Zi Char stalls.

[Tried & Tested] Losing Weight With London Weight Management

| |
Hi Huneybees,

Losing weight has always been a profession for the ladies (and guys maybe?). It is considered a lifelong profession and everyone would try different ways to lose that extra inch. It's not only a quest to looking prettier, it is also good to be slimmer, for health issues.

Singapore Quality Brand Award 2013/2014

AsiaOne People’s Choice Awards 2013:
Winner for Best Beauty and Weight Loss Provider

Established in 2001, London Weight Management has been widely received by female customers with weight issues. The efficacy of their customised weight loss programmes have brought new hope to those who have been battling with weight problems most of their lives. To date, countless women have experienced promising weight loss results from their breakthrough weight management success.

I was given a comfy kimono to change into and it was onto the height and weight taking.
So, this very day, I was at their Ang Mo Kio Jubilee branch to get my "treatment". It started out with a consultation whereby she asked me regarding my lifestyle, sleeping and eating habits. While sleeping late does not help in weight losing but a healthy breakfast helps!

Then, I was given a warm cup of water to help my body flush out the toxins easier during the treatments and a quick shower down, to cool down to body, before entering a 15 mins steam bath. The consultant was very considerate, knowing that I'm asthmatic, she constantly came over to check on me and asked if I was feeling alright.

The temperature was very warm but the consultant handed me a wet towel to put over my face, so that I can breathe easily. Such attentiveness right? The steam bath would go on and off to avoid overheating. It was hot and I was perspiring quite a bit, but I know I am waving goodbye to all the toxins, water and fats!

After that, they brought me to the treatment room for a full body Lavender Scrub. It is to remove the dead skin cells, so that it can absorb the fat burning ampoule which they applied on me next. I was then wrapped up with plastic wrap and a warm blanket for 30 mins. I kinda felt I was being baked, but seeing the amount of perspiration after the session, I was thinking, go ahead, do it for a longer period.... >.<|||

The last part of the treatment has me going to bath and wash off the oils, before heading back to the treatment room for the EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) machine. It would pump my muscles by by sending little pumps on my targeted areas and there were times, I ended up doing a few crunches. 30 mins of treatment on this machine is equal to doing 360 sit ups, 2.4km of running and 2 hours of intense exercise.

After just one session, I already managed to lose 600g, 4620 calories and 8.5 cm of fat around my body. Slimming has never been so relaxing and enjoyable. I didn't have to sweat it out in gyms and I can get the same kind of results. It's definitely a great way for me to lose weight since I have asthma and back injury, heavy exercising is not advisable. I can't wait to be back for my second session...

So, are you ready to embark on your weight management journey?
to receive 1 Complimentary Slimming Session & 1 set of Slimming Products (total worth $368)
+
Stand a chance to win $2000 Slimming Package and London Hamper worth $268, when you sign up.
