MOS Cafe Opens Their First Singapore Branch @ Raffles City

Hi Huneybees,

Since the first MOS Burger branch opened in Singapore, I've been a fan of their menu. Established in Tokyo, Japan and being a healthier choice compared to other fast food restaurants, this JPop crazy fan can never resist. I used to head over there after school to get myself a cup of corn soup, a yakiniku rice burger and a cup of ice milk tea to enjoy whilst chatting with my friends.

Even till now, I will still have my MOS Burger cravings every now and then. That's why, when I was invited to the opening of the very first Singapore's MOS Café @ Raffles City, I agreed to it immediately.

Do note, this is MOS Café, not a revamped MOS Burger restaurant!

Like any typical Japanese restaurant, you will find delicately crafted models of the recommended food samples exhibited in the display window to give you a preview of what's on their menu. I was already drooling even before I got in...

The cafe is refreshing space to step into and would make great place for some alone time, a break between shopping trips or even a day out with your BFFs. Spaciously designed and brightly lit space, the MOS Café embodies all 3 of its branding with soothing natural greens and wood:
 • ‘M’ mountain - To stand tall and firm like a mountain.
 • ‘O’ Ocean - To have a heart that is broad and deep as the ocean.
 • ‘S’ Sun - To have passion like the sun that never burns out.

Stepping up on the "fresh" concept, the MOS Café menu utilizes lots of fresh vegetables and fruits and you will get to see them all on display at the counter together with the cakes and menu for easy reading and ordering.

I keep drumming and drumming on about the menu, so what's new?

Something special would be the Tortilla Salad. Thoughtfully using whole wheat flour tortillas as well as seven different kinds of vegetables and beans (corn, lettuce, onion, chickpeas, red beans,
and okra), packed together with the "instructions manual", even a lady can eat it daintily without having to spoil their gentle lady image. Not only will you not have the ingredients dropping everywhere, you can even have a bigger bite, by hiding behind the specially designed paper wrap.

The Wagyu Tower Burger is 15 layers tall to resemble the Tokyo Tower. Though it might be a challenge to eat this burger, but when you bite into the juicy wagyu beef patty, you will definitely be forgetting about your image. LOL!

15 layers from the bottom:
Bun, lettuce, Wagyu beef patty, ketchup, ham, chili sauce, sliced red onion, tomatoes, Wagyu beef patty, cheese, mayonnaise, chopped onion, chili sauce, lettuce, bun.

For those hoping to look for a filling meal, you can also try their Rice Bowls. Available in Chicken and Avocado, Chicken Vegetables Curry and Wagyu Demi-Glace options, you will be able to bite into their fresh vegetable and freshly cut avocado.

Using only the No.1 rice in Japan, Koshihikari Rice from Niigata Prefecture, you will definitely be going back for seconds.

The drinks are also not to be missed. Other than the usual milk tea, you should also try their specially created fruit drinks like the Special Fruit Tea, Citrus Soda Tea, Fruit Smoothie and Vegetable Smoothie.

Of course, no meal is done without dessert. My favourite? Matcha Mini Parfait! Topped with Matcha ice cream, azuki bean paste and freshly cut fruits, this not-too-sweet dessert would be best shared with your loved ones.

The arrival of the MOS Café has definitely reignited my love for their healthier choice of food. I've already made a date with my BFFs to head back for another round, be sure to head on over soon! :)

Hi Huneybees,

I woke up craving for chocolates! Little chocolate pralines that I can pop into my mouth with the cholatey surprise within, oozing out, filling my mouth with sweetness. I know, I know, this is not a healthy thing but 'coz the night before I had these little purple treats from Cadbury, I can't help wanting more...

The CADBURY GLOW is the all new premium chocolate offering from Cadbury. Birth from the concept of that ‘forgotten’ joy of seeing loved ones smile and 'glow' from receiving a thoughtful gift, CADBURY GLOW is here for you to send that one gift from the heart to your loved ones.

I'm In Love With The Cheesy Baked Crab At Hualong Fishhead Steamboat

Hi Huneybees,

Looking for new places to gather after a tired day of work? Fancy some casual Zi Char, why not come join me at Hualong Fishhead Steamboat in Ang Mo Kio? I super love their Cheesy Baked Crab tossed with Salted Egg (黃金鹹蛋芝士焗蟹), coz not everyone does crab in this style and everything tastes so much better with my favourite CHEESE!!!!

As described by ladyironchef - "Zi Char (also known as Zhi Char/Cze Char/Tze Char/Zhu Chao) is a term used to describe a wallet-friendly, home-style cuisine from a Chinese stall, which serves a variety of ala-carte dishes and leaves you spoiled for choice."

So, this place that I am recommending is not only light on the wallets, you can also choose from a wide variety of delicacy. Here's some of what I would suggest...

Start off the dinner with a big helping of Imperial Shark's Fin with Conpoy & Crabmeat (海皇干貝魚翅). Though the Shark's Fin was more of a subtle touch to the soup, I liked the large helping of crab meat in it. Try having the soup with green chilli, it will bring out the flavour even better than the conventional way of adding black vinegar and pepper.

Then have a plate of Homemade Beancurd with Crispy Radish Floss (家鄉菜脯豆腐) to share. The beancurd is fried to the right crispiness on the outside, leaving it soft on the inside. I love the crispy radish floss on the top and I can't stop munching on them, I can have just this dish to go with my rice. :)

And of course, not forgetting the Cheesy Baked Crab tossed with Salted Egg (黃金鹹蛋芝士焗蟹) mentioned above. This is the one time, where I will be licking the shell for the sauce and I find that the kids will love it too! The meat is fresh and the shells have already been cracked for easy dining. You don't even need to use the shell cracker...

Another style of crab dish would be the Signature White Pepper Crab (白胡椒螃蟹). I never liked my crabs being too spicy, but this would actually be my alternative choice to the Cheesy Baked Crab.

Lastly, you can have the Duo Scallop Combination (鴛鴦雙拼帶子) where the scallops on the outside is crisp-fried and sautéed with XO Sauce for those in the basket. It very refreshing to have 2 styles of scallop in a dish with the XO Sauce bringing out the freshness of the scallop, whilst the crisp-fried version locks in the sweetness of the scallop, bringing the ocean to you within a dish.

And don't forget dessert! This nice cool bowl of Sweet Temptation (今日甜點 - 龍眼) is here to cool you down from the spicy White Pepper Crab and also our warm weather, leaving you going home, licking for more.

Those are just some of my favourites at the stall. You can also find some of their specialty dishes like the Spinach with Jade Abalone (菠菜扒冬菇玉鮑), Herbal Stewed Duck with Sea Cucumber (藥材海參鴨), Clams(Lala) Stir-fried with Chef's Butter Garlic Sauce (牛蒜炒啦啦) or Signature Wok-fried White Beehoon (華龍招牌白米粉) if you are bringing more friends and family...

Hungry yet? Make a date and come on over, enjoy a nice meal at Hualong Fishhead Steamboat. But be sure to make reservations before heading down as it is usually pretty packed. I like that the service is good, dishes get served fast and piping hot. The dishes are also pretty special and some are uniquely theirs, standing out amongst the usual Zi Char stalls.

OWL Café Opens 2 New Branches With New Menu Additions

Hi Huneybees,

OWL Café has always been serving Straits Asian Food ever since it first opened in Star Vista. Well, the great news is, with the expansion of 2 new stores -Republic Plaza & Bedok Point, they have added new additions to their menu...

Toast with Kopi (Coffee) is the Singapore way of enjoying a nice tea breakfast or tea break. OWL Café has given it a new twist with its Signature Pumpkin Kaya Toast. I liked that they have used Ciabatta bread instead of the usual white bread and with the addition of pumpkin into kaya, it's almost like having a bread bowl of pumpkin soup.

The Chicken Hae Chor Salad has always been my favourite and now that it is served as an appetizer in a cocktail glass, you can enjoy it in smaller proportions and save the tummy for more food. :)

Something refreshing would be the Seafood Fish Noodle. Thinking that it was Bee Hoon (Vermicelli), I was definitely in for a surprise. The noodles are made of FISH MEAT!

This is something that you can't find in Singapore and I always have my "fix" whenever I drop by Hong Kong.

Though it doesn't really taste that good as what I had in Hong Kong, I liked that this is a lighter version, with a whole lot more ingredients. This will be a favourite amongst those ladies who wana watch their diet!

Another main to check out would be the Double Boiled Cordyceps Flower With Pork Ribs Soup and Glutinous Rice 'La Wei' Mushroom Sausage. It makes me miss my mum's cooking and it's nice to be able to find "home-cooked" food when you are out at work in the middle of the day.

And lastly is the dessert - Mango Pomelo Soya Beancurd. Though I'm not a huge fan of mango, I must say the beancurd was what surprised me. It's made with OWL's Soya Beancurd Pudding packaged mix and it taste so smooth, like those you can find handmade in the market. This is a summer must-have, so refreshing!
