The Centrepoint’s Centrestage: Where Music, Art and Local Stories Bring Orchard Road Back to Life

| |
0 comments
Hi Huneybees,

There’s something quietly changing along Orchard Road lately. Not just new stores or refreshed malls… but the feeling of the space itself. And when I stepped into The Centrepoint, I realised — it’s no longer just about shopping. It’s becoming a place where you can actually pause, watch, listen… and feel something again.

That’s exactly what their new initiative, The Centrestage: “Artist Story”, is all about.

Where Shopping Meets Stories (And You Stay Longer Than Planned)

Running from 21 March to 2 April 2026, this isn’t your typical mall activation. Instead of flashy sales or pop-up booths, the Level 1 Atrium transforms into something a little more unexpected... a space filled with music, art, and real stories from local creatives.

Because we’re all a little more selective now about where we spend our time.
We don’t just want places to go, we want places that feel worth staying for.

The Music Edition: When Orchard Road Starts Sounding Alive Again

The opening weekend kicks things off with The Music Edition (21–22 March), and this is where the energy really builds.

Imagine walking through the mall and instead of background noise, you hear live vocals, raw performances, and artists pouring their stories into every set.

Headliners like Shazza and Josh Makazo take the spotlight, but what makes it special is the mix of rising talents and student performers sharing the same stage. It doesn’t feel like a concert. It feels more like discovering someone before everyone else does.

The Art Edition: Slowing Down, Creating Something, Feeling Inspired

After the music fades, the space shifts into something softer, more immersive.

From 23 March to 2 April, the Art Edition takes over; and suddenly the atrium feels less like a mall, more like a creative playground.

You’ll find:

  • A curated exhibition of student and local artist works
  • Live art sessions where you can literally watch pieces come to life
  • Hands-on workshops where you don’t just look… you create

And if you’ve ever said “I’m not artistic,” this is exactly the kind of space that proves you wrong. Because it’s not about perfection, it’s about trying, exploring, and maybe surprising yourself a little.

The Kind of Experience Orchard Actually Needs Right Now

What truly stands out to me isn’t just the performances or the art. It’s the intention behind it.

The Centrepoint isn’t trying to compete with bigger, louder attractions.
Instead, it’s creating something more of a space where people gather, discover, and connect through creativity. And in a place like Orchard Road, where everything can sometimes feel a bit transactional, this feels refreshing.

Like a reminder that the city can still slow down, just enough for you to notice something meaningful.

If You’re Heading Down…

Come for the music.
Stay for the art.
And leave with something you didn’t expect; even if it’s just a new favourite artist or a spark of inspiration.

Because sometimes, the best experiences aren’t planned.
You just walk in… and something clicks.

80+ Local Brands, New Vibes: Why You’ll Love the All-New DORS

| |
0 comments
Hi Huneybees,

Orchard Road just got a glow-up and it’s called DORS. If the name sounds familiar, that’s because this is the newly revamped and rebranded Design Orchard Retail Showcase - now reborn as DORS, a fresh identity that’s bigger, bolder, and bursting with local creative energy.

DORS is more than just a shopping stop; it’s Singapore’s ultimate creative playground where fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and homegrown design collide. With over 80 local brands under one roof, the space is now designed to be more immersive, more tactile, and way more fun to explore.

Why DORS Feels Different

This isn’t just a facelift. DORS has reintroduced itself with a renewed mission - to spotlight Singapore’s most exciting designers and give us, the shoppers, a chance to feel their stories through design. Whether you’re into slow fashion, quirky socks, vegan skincare, or statement jewellery, you’ll find labels here that are thoughtful, creative, and proudly local.

Some familiar names you’ll spot:

  • GINLEE Studio - pleats, timeless silhouettes, and on-demand sustainable fashion.
  • Sabrina Goh - architectural designs for women who walk their own line.
  • Graye - minimalist, functional menswear that grows with you.
  • Talking Toes - socks with affirmations (and attitude).
  • Handmade Heroes - clean, plant-powered skincare that proves natural can pack a punch.
  • Straits Lights - home fragrances inspired by Singapore’s neighbourhoods.

Plus, keep an eye out for fresh newcomers like Rock Daisy (soft punk meets sweetness) and C.A.M. (chic, clean-cut power dressing).

New Spaces to Explore

What really makes DORS fun now are the new themed zones, each one designed to be an experience, not just a shop shelf:

  • The Analog Space – Your little escape from the digital scroll. Think vinyl records, paperbacks, and objects that remind us to slow down. Feels like stepping into a Tokyo backstreet cafe.

  • The Beauty Bar – A skincare playground with an actual sink (yes, you can really wash and try products right there). Swatch, sample, and pretend you’re at a mini spa.

  • Play Ground – Where dopamine decor, cheeky designs, and quirky collectibles come alive. Basically, the “you’ll never leave empty-handed” zone.

Well, DORS isn’t just a store, it’s a community hub for design, creativity, and discovery. With the Singapore Fashion Council curating the experience, everything feels intentional: sustainable, story-driven, and proudly Singaporean.

So whether you’re shopping for a statement dress, a new scent for your home, or just want to wander and soak in the vibes, DORS is the spot to celebrate local talent in the heart of Orchard.

Want a sneak peek before you go? Explore the new DORS virtually here.

Celebrate local. Support homegrown. Honour the journey.

From Merlion Fossils to Futuristic Sausages: Inside Singapore Design Week 2025

Hi Huneybees,

Conceptualised by creative agency Kinetic Singapore, the festival campaign this year articulates how intentional design has been the fundamental building block in shaping Singapore's spaces, culture, and identity over 60 years.

Singapore Design Week (SDW) is back this September, and this year’s edition is extra special. From 11 to 21 September 2025, the city will transform into a giant playground of creativity, celebrating 60 years of Singapore’s nation-building journey with the theme “Nation by Design”.

Organised by the DesignSingapore Council (Dsg), the festival pays tribute to Singapore’s design spirit – from our UNESCO Creative City of Design status, to the way thoughtful design has shaped everything from our skylines to the food we eat.

Nation by Design: Spotlight Exhibitions

At the heart of Bras Basah.Bugis Design District, two exciting new commissions will take you on an imaginative dive into Singapore’s design DNA.

  • The Unnatural History Museum of Singapore at the National Design Centre is led by Pann Lim (Kinetic Singapore). Expect the unexpected: a six-metre Merlion “fossil,” hybrid flora and robotic fauna like cyborg cockroaches, plus bold reimaginings of how Singapore thrives despite limited natural resources.

  • The Sausage of the Future: Singapore Edition at NAFA’s Fashion Gallery brings Dutch designer Carolien Niebling’s quirky food design project to Asia for the first time. With sustainability in mind, it presents sausages inspired by our local culinary culture – yes, complete with models, ingredient prints, and even tasting sessions!

Four Design Districts to Explore

This year, SDW spans four precincts, each with its own unique take on the festival theme:

A Celebration for SG60

As Executive Director of Dsg, Dawn Lim, beautifully sums it up:

“As Singapore turns 60, this year’s Singapore Design Week invites us to reflect on how far we’ve come — not by chance, but through deliberate and thoughtful design.”

Whether you’re here for futuristic experiments, playful design moments, or thought-provoking exhibitions, Singapore Design Week 2025 is a city-wide festival that shows how design has shaped our lives, and how it will continue to inspire Singapore’s future.

📅 Mark your calendars: 11 – 21 September 2025.

Synopsis of The Greater Somerset Simulation: Somerset Threads Live Theatrical Experience

Ling and Singh, representatives from a mysterious external non-government agency, have just one question for you - how can Somerset become the coolest district? Dripping with civil servant charisma, they invite you to step into The Greater Somerset Simulation.

Join them on a moonlit journey through Somerset, where street art comes to life, and interactive experiences like the BTO Auction War await. The Featured Street Arts
Title: Flash-C
Venue: Skate Ramp at Somerset Skate Park
Artist: Eunice Hannah Lim
Mural Assistant: Gwen Rae (Gwenster)

Eunice Hannah Lim, also known as “1 is E.nuf” (b.1992, Singapore), is an artist inspired by documented narratives and our navigation through constructed spaces. Utilizing a myriad of mediums such as drawing, painting, street murals and assemblages, she crafts new shared experiences according to each unique location.

Her work explores themes of history, placemaking, and community interactions with landscapes, reimagining how we connect with our surroundings today. Some of her notable public art murals in Singapore are: Cattleland, Book-A-Meeting, Folding Dreams and Gen XYZ. She uses the vibrancy of colors to convey culture and hopefully, a new layer of awareness to the place.

Flash-C captures the dynamic energy of Orchard Somerset, reflecting the interplay between environmental forces and human identities, showcasing the confluence of water, heritage, and self-expression. They echo the transitory yet powerful nature of “flash” phenomena—both in physical events and cultural movements; drawing inspiration from the flash floods in Orchard and “sub-culture kids”. The crimson sunbird, declared as Singapore’s unofficial national bird, looks at the immersive waves – creating an open-ended prompt about its own belonging and local identity.

Title: working hands NOW and THEN
Venue: Shutter at 111 Somerset facing Devonshire Road
Artist: ANTZ
Mural Assistant: Glenn Ong (GORIS)

ANTZ is renowned for his distinctive style, which merges classical Chinese myths with contemporary urban pop influences. His work has been described as a “juxtaposed-mash,” blending ethnic traditions with international street art aesthetics. With a deep passion for Chinese culture and design, ANTZ has established a strong presence across Southeast Asia, China, North America, and Europe, attracting a diverse and notable clientele.

His artwork, working Hands: NOW and THEN, draws inspiration from Singapore’s 1970s PUB building, incorporating its architectural patterns to reflect the area’s rich heritage. The dripping effect symbolizes the fusion of corporate professionals with the youthful, vibrant energy of today’s Orchard Somerset. Gold accents and bold colors further enhance the visual contrast. At the heart of the piece, a lanyard-wearing hand on a skateboard captures the dynamic coexistence of office workers, skate park enthusiasts, and Orchard Road shoppers, celebrating the district’s ever-evolving spirit.

Title: Tan Sri P Ramlee, The Multi-Talented
Venue: Somerset Youth Park, The Red Bus
Artist: Boon Bakes
Mural Assistant: Han (KidKaijin)

Boon, also known as Boon Bakes, is a Singaporean visual artist and full-time graffiti muralist. He creates imaginative scenes and cartoon self-portraits of his alter ego, The Mata-Kuyu Man.

Boon has been part of numerous local events, including Singapore Street Fest (2017, 2018) and Aliwal Urban Arts Festival (2020, 2023). His work has also gained international recognition, with invitations to Meeting of Styles in Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines, as well as Step in the Arena, a renowned graffiti festival in Eindhoven, Netherlands. His artistic skills are showcased in a 70-meter-long mural at Artwalk Little India, and in 2021, his piece The Journey earned a place in the Kampong Glam Hall of Fame, marking a key milestone in his career. Through his art, Boon aims to spread peace and love, using creativity to inspire and connect communities.

The mural - Tan Sri P. Ramlee, The Multi-Talented, honors Tan Sri P. Ramlee, a legendary figure in Singapore’s Malay entertainment industry. An actor, director, composer, and singer, he was instrumental in shaping the golden age of Malay cinema in the 1950s. Located on the very street where a scene from his iconic 1957 comedy Bujang Lapok was filmed, the artwork pays tribute to his lasting influence on Malay art and culture.

Title: Project Cheeep: Visualising Collective Emotional States in Public Art
Venue: Somerset Youth Park Pavillion
Artist: Victor Emmanuel
Project Manager: Stellah Lim
Video Artist: Marcel Gaspar
Project Assistants: Zul Zaufishan (Zee Fish), Jade (JXDE) & Mina Choo (Soup)

Victor Emmanuel is a Singapore-based artist specializing in painting, having graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts. His work has been featured in major local exhibitions, including Oceanfest ’23 at Resorts World Sentosa’s S.E.A. Aquarium, You Other; I Another at The Private Museum (2019), A Home for the Arts at The Substation (2016), and Geometry at CANVAS Singapore (2015). Beyond his own artistic practice, Victor collaborates as an expert fabricator, providing technical and creative support to fellow artists.

Project Cheeep is a site-specific installation that explores emotional responses as a measurable aspect of human experience. At its core are handcrafted birds inspired by the common mynahs found in Singapore’s Orchard and Somerset areas. These birds, known for their habit of gathering in the evenings to create a chorus of chatter, serve as a metaphor for collective expression.

The installation reimagines the mynahs' nightly ritual—often chaotic and noisy—as a reflection of how humans process and share daily experiences, whether through conversations, art, or social interactions. Acting as silent witnesses to urban life, the mynahs mirror our routines and emotions, capturing the unnoticed poetry of everyday existence. By incorporating these birds as both visual and symbolic elements, Cheeep highlights the dual nature of city living—balancing solitude and connection, chaos and harmony, individuality and community.

Title: TRI-dora (Collaboration between TRIFECTA and *SCAPE)
Venue: TRIFECTA
Artist: Tobyato

TRI-dora is a floor mural that pays tribute to both the legendary three-headed kaiju, Ghidorah, and the dynamic spirit of TRIFECTA within Somerset. As the name suggests, TRI-dora is built around three key concepts:
  • The Elements of Board Sports - Representing water, wind, and rock, the artwork symbolizes the three board sports that define TRIFECTA: surfing, snowboarding, and skateboarding.
  • Creative Flow & Expression - The flowing design of the mural reflects the movement of board sports, evoking the flow state in traditional creative pursuits like art and music.
  • A Natural Guide - Following the flow of the artwork brings one through the different sections of TRIFECTA’s space.

The murals will be on display until November 2025 as part of Somerset Threads. Feel free to come explore the murals outside of the experience.
