My Top 5 Mobile Apps For This SG50 Weekend

| |
0 comments
Hi Huneybees,

Have you been partying this long weekend in celebration of Singapore's Golden Jubilee?

If you are like me, preferring to "hide out" at home this Monday to rest up for a new working week, you have to check out these five SG50 apps / mobile games. I have tried and tested them and I must admit, I can't put my phone down!

1) Satay Club by Afzainizam Zahari

The top on my list is a game from Afszainizam Zahari called Satay Club. If you have been an avid mobile games player, you would have seen his other games like Kopi Tiam, Mooncake Shop, My Donut Days, etc.

Before satay enjoying was all ushered to Lau Pa Sat and Satay By The Bay, we had the Satay Club. Go back to the 1940s-1960s of olden Singapore to help Adi in his satay business at Beach Road and relive the history as you play along in this retro pixel world.

Each chapter gets tougher as the menu grows bigger with different challenges on each level. If you love those Diner Dash sort of mad rush time management games, this is a definite must must!

iOS: http://bit.ly/SatayClub-IOS
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.afzane.satayclub

2) KAN-CHEONG! Kopitiam Saga by Mojocat

Wah! This one will really make you super jumpy and 'Kan Cheong' (nervous) like a spider! KAN-CHEONG! Kopitiam Saga is a fast-paced, wacky game that celebrates “uniquely Singaporean” quirks and eccentricities centered around two kopitiams – Huat Huat Kopitiam and Raja Kaya Eating House set in the quaint Joo Chiat Area.

Test your skills on whether you know Singapore that well as the characters speak the Kopitiam lingo and learn the true blue Singapore culture. You can pit your skills and challenge up to 3 friends in the mini-games and select your favourite spider to 'sabo" (short for sabotage) your opponents too!

This game allows you to interact with your friends from the comfort of your home and if you like challenges, something to work the brains, this will definitely be the test of your Singlish. :)

iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id962060911
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Mojocat.KanCheong

3) Guess The Word SG - Party Charades For Singaporeans by Nectary Studio Pte. Ltd.

Oh! If you have been a fan of Ellen’s "Heads Up", this will be a family fun of charades Singapore style.

These words only the true blue Singaporean will know and there are several decks to choose from and some of them are:
  • Hawker Food
  • So Singaporean Slangs
  • Army Lingo
  • School Life
  • Kopitiam Madness

Guess The Word SG is a fun group game and it will be excuse to get your friends and families or even neighbours over for a get-together this evening! The cute illustrations from the game and the simple mechanics of the game lets you have a roaring good time with just a mobile phone!

Simply put the phone at your forehead, while your friend tries to describe words like ‘Khong Guan’ and ‘ERP’ for you to guess ~

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ns.guessthewordsg

4) Rickshaw Rush by Mojo Forest

Play as a rickshaw taxi driver and travel around Singapore to ferry all the different characters to their destination. Through the different stages of the game, you will get to see and learn lots of iconic Singapore landmarks.

Psst, you can even meet historical figures such as Zubir Said, Sir Stamford Raffles, Tan Tock Seng, etc, in their 8 bits cartoon form! :)

5) Carousell

Ok, after all the gaming, maybe it's time to really sit back and relax and do some finger shopping. Simply search for the items you wana get and search for the best deal. Or even better! Time to put your stuffs on sale too! If you have always been busy at work, this will be a great time to get started on Carousell.

All you have to do is snap a picture (or two), upload it and add a description. There are no selling or listing fees. If you get an interested buyer, they’ll make an offer and you can chat with him/her to arrange meet-ups or delivery options. You can also buy loads of items – from concert tickets to clothes – at a big discount.

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thecarousell.Carousell&hl=en

Hope you guys had a great weekend break, I'm heading back into the virtual world.
Have fun and have a great week ahead!

Celebrate Singapore's 50th With A Starbucks Birthday Frappuccino Treat ~

| |
0 comments
Hi Huneybees,

Have you heard? Starbucks today pushed out a brand new promotion in light of Singapore's 50th Birthday Celebration to rejoice in the celebration mood with the nation. Being the ardent supporter of Starbucks Coffee, of course I needed to join in and grab myself a cuppa of the Birthday Frappuccino.

Having opened more than 100 stores in Singapore within 19 years, Starbucks have launched this new drink to celebrate this momentous milestone and express their gratitude to the nation for having them as part of the Singapore journey, creating history together.

From 3rdAugust to 11th August, between 3 pm to 7 pm, you can treat yourselves to a Venti-sized Birthday Frappuccino at $5, T&Cs apply.

The Birthday Frappuccino is my ideal birthday cake mix, bursting with all signs of sweet happiness, with Vanilla crème, dashes of hazelnut and smooth panna cotta. This is just the right drink to give yourself a pat for working so hard these past few months!

This is the first time I have my drink with whipped cream, coz it has been infused with raspberry flavour and without it, it just feels like something is missing. *Well, at most just eat more veggie and run for a few more rounds right?*

More Singaporean Themed Promotions...

Singapore Skyline Tumbler

As part of the celebration, get for yourself or your loved ones a Singapore Skyline tumbler for just $25.90. The new tumbler captures the modern Singapore skyline, from shophouse to skyscraper, and is the perfect memento to remember Singapore’s Golden Jubilee for years to come.

Supporting Our Local Talent: Nicholas Tan
Supporting local talents and artists has always been what Starbucks strongly advocates. In the month of August, we are honored to have Singaporean singer-songwriter Nicholas Tan’s second album, New Normal, sold at our counters island-wide for just $10.

So, be sure to set your alarms and grab yourselves a cup of the Starbucks Birthday Frappuccino for tea-break tomorrow! :)

Hi Huneybees,

EZ-Link Pte Ltd unveiled the winning designs of the EZ-Link ‘My Journey, My Home’ SG50 Card Design Art Competition today. The top four winning designs have been printed on 200,000 EZ-Link cards which will go on sale from 4th August 2015 onwards at TransitLink Ticket Offices island-wide.

Mr. Eric Lee, Vice-President of DAS (left) with Mr. Sam Tan, Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth M Executive Committee (right) viewing some of the Best-Of-Show winning entries.

Supported by the National Arts Council (NAC) and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) in celebration of SG50, the competition was opened to Singaporeans and Permanent Residents and comprised the Open Category ran by the NAC for the public and the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) category ran by the DAS for its existing and ex- students.

Top four grand winners (clockwise): William, Matthew, Amalia and Hui-Shyan

The top four grand winners out of the 20 best-of-show pieces are:

Tang Chun Kit Matthew Hubert (DAS Junior - Winner)
William Choo (DAS Senior - Winner)

Neo Hui-Shyan (NAC Junior - Winner)
Amalia Bte Kamal (NAC Senior - Winner)

Do you know that Dyslexia is not an intellectual disability, it is a learning difference. Dyslexic people may have difficulty decoding written words or matching sounds to words, so it can be frustrating. MRI scans show dyslexic and regular brains fire up in different zones when tackling the same task.

Some of the famous dyslexics include our founding father of independent Singapore the late Lee Kuan YewFounder of Virgin Group - Sir Richard Branson, and most influential physicist of the 20th century Albert Einstein.

Top four grand winners each received a plaque with all four printed winning designs EZ-link cards to be circulated to public on 4th August 2015.
EZ-Link will contribute $0.25 to DAS from every card sold, with an aim of raising a total of S$50,000 to provide financial assistance to students with dyslexia at the primary and secondary levels from non-MOE funded schools who do not receive MOE grants for DAS programmes. These funds will strengthen learning support to students unable to afford the programmes without financial support and help them access much-needed programmes such as literacy, mathematics, Chinese language and Speech and Drama Arts, to improve their skills in these areas.

So Huneybees, what are you waiting for? As suggested by Mr Nicholas Lee, CEO of EZ-Link Pte Ltd, let us  all collect these very special mementos for Singapore’s 50th birthday and indirectly motivate children with dyslexia to continue to unleash their potential and make outstanding contributions to Singapore’s future.
