Gone Red & White For Singapore's 50th Birthday

Hi Huneybees,

How was your SG50 celebration weekend? It's back to work day in a few more hours and I'm really gona be missing those few days where I could go out to stretch those muscles and spend some quality time with my hubby.  :)

Anyway, back to Singapore's Birthday - 9th August. We spent the day doing things Singapore related in red and white style and the very first thing I did was to brush my teeth with The Real Red toothpaste by Pearlie White.

It is a proudly made in Singapore oral care brand and with the lion head symbol, you know they will be bringing in smiles to Singaporeans all over the island. An early minty breath is definitely a must to kick start such a wonderful day!

Then, it comes down to dressing up. I had initially wanted to flash those unique one-piece-only SG50 x DEPRESSION T-Shirts and couple them with hubby, but in the end, hubby still insisted on being the "red" pair.

It was pretty ironic we both wore something comic fans would love, but hey, that's what makes us a couple eh?  :*

Though we had planned to head on out to go catch the NDP'15 airshow and fireworks, but for fear my back could not take it, we decided to stay home to catch the parade on TV. I wished that I could have done more, given that it was such a memorable day, being Singapore's 50th afterall.

It was a pity to have missed seeing the planes zipped by and the specially created SG50 fireworks right before my eyes.

Anyway, these were taken when I was passing by Kallang the other day, when the Black Knights were doing a rehearsal for NDP. This was as close as I could get to this year's celebration. Guess I can only hope for next year... :(

So, how did you spend your National Day?
Do share your photos if you were at NDP LIVE! :P

My Top 5 Mobile Apps For This SG50 Weekend

| |

Hi Huneybees,

Have you been partying this long weekend in celebration of Singapore's Golden Jubilee?

If you are like me, preferring to "hide out" at home this Monday to rest up for a new working week, you have to check out these five SG50 apps / mobile games. I have tried and tested them and I must admit, I can't put my phone down!

1) Satay Club by Afzainizam Zahari

The top on my list is a game from Afszainizam Zahari called Satay Club. If you have been an avid mobile games player, you would have seen his other games like Kopi Tiam, Mooncake Shop, My Donut Days, etc.

Before satay enjoying was all ushered to Lau Pa Sat and Satay By The Bay, we had the Satay Club. Go back to the 1940s-1960s of olden Singapore to help Adi in his satay business at Beach Road and relive the history as you play along in this retro pixel world.

Each chapter gets tougher as the menu grows bigger with different challenges on each level. If you love those Diner Dash sort of mad rush time management games, this is a definite must must!

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.afzane.satayclub

2) KAN-CHEONG! Kopitiam Saga by Mojocat

Wah! This one will really make you super jumpy and 'Kan Cheong' (nervous) like a spider! KAN-CHEONG! Kopitiam Saga is a fast-paced, wacky game that celebrates “uniquely Singaporean” quirks and eccentricities centered around two kopitiams – Huat Huat Kopitiam and Raja Kaya Eating House set in the quaint Joo Chiat Area.

Test your skills on whether you know Singapore that well as the characters speak the Kopitiam lingo and learn the true blue Singapore culture. You can pit your skills and challenge up to 3 friends in the mini-games and select your favourite spider to 'sabo" (short for sabotage) your opponents too!

This game allows you to interact with your friends from the comfort of your home and if you like challenges, something to work the brains, this will definitely be the test of your Singlish. :)

3) Guess The Word SG - Party Charades For Singaporeans by Nectary Studio Pte. Ltd.

Oh! If you have been a fan of Ellen’s "Heads Up", this will be a family fun of charades Singapore style.

These words only the true blue Singaporean will know and there are several decks to choose from and some of them are:
  • Hawker Food
  • So Singaporean Slangs
  • Army Lingo
  • School Life
  • Kopitiam Madness

Guess The Word SG is a fun group game and it will be excuse to get your friends and families or even neighbours over for a get-together this evening! The cute illustrations from the game and the simple mechanics of the game lets you have a roaring good time with just a mobile phone!

Simply put the phone at your forehead, while your friend tries to describe words like ‘Khong Guan’ and ‘ERP’ for you to guess ~

4) Rickshaw Rush by Mojo Forest

Play as a rickshaw taxi driver and travel around Singapore to ferry all the different characters to their destination. Through the different stages of the game, you will get to see and learn lots of iconic Singapore landmarks.

Psst, you can even meet historical figures such as Zubir Said, Sir Stamford Raffles, Tan Tock Seng, etc, in their 8 bits cartoon form! :)

5) Carousell

Ok, after all the gaming, maybe it's time to really sit back and relax and do some finger shopping. Simply search for the items you wana get and search for the best deal. Or even better! Time to put your stuffs on sale too! If you have always been busy at work, this will be a great time to get started on Carousell.

All you have to do is snap a picture (or two), upload it and add a description. There are no selling or listing fees. If you get an interested buyer, they’ll make an offer and you can chat with him/her to arrange meet-ups or delivery options. You can also buy loads of items – from concert tickets to clothes – at a big discount.

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thecarousell.Carousell&hl=en

Hope you guys had a great weekend break, I'm heading back into the virtual world.
Have fun and have a great week ahead!

If you are like me, who just can't get enough of the nation's Golden Jubilee celebrations organized everywhere on this fantastic island city-state, you would certainly enjoy what The Fullerton Hotel has lined up for all of us!

From 1st to 9th August, a spectacular high-tech visual showcase, uses the latest 3D animation and projection technique, will transform the magnificent facade of a 128-year old city landmark - The Fullerton Hotel - to life, in celebration of the nation's 50th  birthday!

Titled "A Celebration of Our Heritage", this 8-minute long music and video extravaganza, which starts from 8pm for nine lovely evenings, as part of the SG50 Marina Bay Light-Up, will offer glimpse of Singapore over the past 50 years, showcasing the various key moments that have taken place at the Fullerton Square.

I am privileged to have the opportunity to preview this digital masterpiece yesterday and I am certain it will evoke national pride in every Singaporean who watches it while offers a glimpse of our rich heritage and a memorable visual treat to the visitors of Singapore.

Cartographically created to take Singaporean down a nostalgic memory lane, the 3D images move and dance their way across the hotel's facade, transforming the 400 rooms luxury hotel into a stunning theatrical backdrop, showcasing scenes from the numerous election campaign rallies (hint, hint ;), the transformation of Singapore including the hotel's previous role as Singapore's General Post Office (my favourite moment!), as well as paying tribute to Singapore's shared heritage of nulti-ethnic and multi-cultural identity.

During the Jubilee Weekend, on 7th and 8th August, from 7:30pm, The Fullerton Hotel will also be distributing complimentary local threats of Kachang Putih (roasted or sweetened peanuts or beans traditionally sold in paper cones) and Potong Ice-cream (rectangular popsicies in local flavours such as red bean, yam and durian) at One Fullerton to add to the sense of nostalgia.
There's also LCD screens set up for spectators in the vicinity of One Fullerton and The Fullerton Bay hotel to catch "live" National Day Parade on 9th August.

Meantime, in keeping with the celebratory mood, The Fullerton Hotel will also be rewarding ten lucky winners with a complimentary weekend night's stay. Simply take a photo of the video projection and submit your entry with your birthday wishes to the nation at #FullertonSG50LightUp. The contest closes on Sunday, 9th August at 11:59pm and remember to 'like' The Fullerton Hotel Facebook and Instagram pages!
