Juventus Thrash Singapore Selection With A 5-0 Score!

| |
Hi Huneybees,

I was invited by Sports Hub Premier Founding Partner OCBC to catch the first football match in the new National Stadium – Juventus vs Singapore Selection - at the one of National Stadium Club’s 61 Executive Suites that boasts panoramic views of the National Stadium.

Singapore is the final leg of the two weeks #JUVETOUR in Indonesia, Australia and Singapore and the Bianconeri didn’t disappoint by scoring 5-0 against the Singapore Selection in front of approximate 27,000 supporting fans.

Andrea Pirlo was definitely the most recognizable and idolized Bianconeri in this match from the reaction of the crowd cheering him on whenever he took a corner kick or free kick. Pirlo returned the favor back to his fans by scoring the first two goals of the game; both goals from stationary position of a free kick on the 17th minutes and a spot kick three minutes before the half time whistle (with 1 minute of injury time included).

Gianluigi Buffon, the other crowd favorite, on the other hand had a day off on the pitch as he was not tested throughout his appearance apart from a catch when a low ball, by Singapore Selection, flew past the Juve goal post inside the penalty box.

Although both star players were substituted after the first half break, the game actually came into life as the pace of the game increased, helped by three brilliantly-executed goals by Pogba on the 48th minutes, Giovinco on the 55th minutes and Asamoah on the 71st minute. My favorite was the goal scored by Pogba as he beat not one but three players before shooting the ball into the net from inside the box!

The fundamental problem with the Singapore Selection was the lack a visionary player like Pirlo who could make the ball connection with the rest of his team from midfield. The Singapore Selection whenever in possession of the ball always kept making the same mistake of passing the ball through a group of Juventus players waiting in the center of the field. In my opinion, if Singapore Selection would have concentrated on long ball on both flanks, the result might be different!

Non-existence man-marking and poor clearance of ball inside the penalty box by Singapore Selection were also two key issues that Bernd Stange, the national team coach of Singapore, needed to work on if Singapore wanted to perform well in the coming AFF Suzuki Cup at the end of this year.

Overall the game would have been better if not for the horrendous condition of the football pitch and missing Carlos Tevez in action. Nevertheless, all these shortfalls have somewhat been compensated by the great hospitality of OCBC. Thank you OCBC!

Before I pen off, please catch the video of all 5 goals scored against Singapore Selection:

Tiger Street Football Is Back This October

| |
Hi Huneybees,

Remember the cancellation of the Tiger Street Football that was due to the bad haze conditions? Well, it's back!
The Tiger Street Football returns to the streets of Singapore on 18 and 19 October 2013 and promises a competition that reflects the flair, skills and diverse styles associated with 5-a-side street football. To be held at Event Plaza@Marina Bay Sands, Tiger Street Football Singapore is set to thrill local football fans with a showcase of the best street football action from local and international teams.
Presented by internationally acclaimed Tiger Beer and organised in partnership with FOX International Channels and SPORTFIVE Asia, the highly anticipated tournament aims to elevate the level of play and passion for football on the streets of Singapore.
This year, the tournament will see legendary Italian superstar Fabio Cannavaro coming on-board as the official Tournament Ambassador. Cannavaro led Italy to its first World Cup in 24 years and won the prestigious FIFA World Player of the Year and Ballon d'Or in 2006. Having played for the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, Cannavaro has travelled to Cambodia, Australia, Malaysia, Mongolia and China as the tournament ambassador for Tiger Street Football 2013.
“Since the inaugural Tiger Street Football tournament in 2011, Singaporeans have clearly shown their passion for street football through an overwhelming support for local teams who battled their hearts out for the opportunity and honour to represent the nation on a regional level. We are very excited to be hosting this year’s tournament at Marina Bay Sands against the backdrop of the amazing Singapore city skyline as it takes our commitment to bringing a unique flavour of the best ‘live’ street football action to a whole new level.” --- Mr Rene de Monchy, Head of Marketing, Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore.
Tiger Street Football’s brand of intense and innovative non-stop action will be on full display through the competition’s fast-paced six-minute halves in a unique oval caged, hard-court pitch with no side-lines. The dynamic, five-a-side game play will provide a refreshing platform for players to showcase their talent, while developing their skills in competitive street football.
Tiger Street Football Format
The tournament in Singapore will feature 32 local teams battling it out in the National Finals on Friday, 18 October, for cash prizes of USD3, 000 and USD1, 500 awarded to the first and second placed teams respectively. The champions of Friday’s competition will automatically qualify for the Grand Finals to be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on 9 November.
The top two local teams from the National Finals will also get the opportunity to play against international teams from Italy, Germany, Malaysia and Vietnam on Saturday, 19 October for a chance to win additional cash prizes of USD5,000, USD2,500 and USD1,000 for first, second and third place respectively.
Play alongside a World Cup Star
For the first time in Tiger Street Football Singapore, fans can win a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play alongside the tournament ambassador, Fabio Cannavaro, at the National Finals on 18 October.
To qualify, fans above 18 years old simply need to send a photo of themselves performing a football skill to sgtigerbeer@gmail.com before midnight of 14 October with their name, NRIC and contact number.
Selected by Fabio Cannavaro, the images will go through a voting process on Tiger Beer's Facebook page where the submission with the most “likes” and “shares” will don on the same jersey as the World Cup winner and play alongside Fabio.
Tiger Street Football Activities
During the tournament, spectators will be treated to a host of activities, including special dance routines by the Tiger Cage Girls and freestyle football performances by four-time world record holder, Laura Biondo.
Fans will also be able to meet Fabio Cannavaro up-close and personal through two meet-and-greet sessions on 17 and 18 October which will be hosted at the tournament’s Beer Garden. Additional details will be announced closer to the event.
Tiger Street Football Singapore is the sixth stop of the tournament. This year’s tournament has seen an increase in the level of participation in the region due to the introduction of three additional stops in Cambodia, Australia and Mongolia. Hi Huneybees,

I was recently invited to Meet and Greet with the renowned Dutch football star and the ambassador for Tiger Street Football - Edgar Davids, at Clarke Quay. Together with football fans, we waited patiently in the cage that was set up at Clarke Quay Central Fountain.

Pretty babes to prep the crowd... :)
The highly excited fans.
Some of them even queued for more than 2 hours!

We were kept entertained by the Brazil and Thailand team with a match. I was caught in the middle  when entering the cage and got greeted in the face by the soccer ball! It's ok, everything for meeting Edgar Davids!

Arrival of Edgar Davids.
Edgar Davids, who has played for top European clubs such as AC Milan, Juventus, FC Barcelona, Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur, is strongly associated to street football, serving as a patron for the game and its varieties all over the globe.

The sexy Tiger Cage Girls who will pose next to fans and Edgar Davids for the photo memento.

Fans were able to bring their personal football memento for an autograph by Edgar Davids as well as multiple photo opportunities during the session to capture the excitement around Tiger Street Football and Singapore’s love for the game. Everyone had interesting items for Edgar Davids to sign, it was interesting to stand aside and see what each of them brought...

Me and hubby each got an opportunity to take a photo with Edgar Davids and he autographed a t-shirt for us. Sweet!!!

Fans not wanting to leave even though Edgar Davids have already stepped out of the cage, everyone crowded around him, still wanting to take more photos and getting autographs from him. Super high and I bet Edgar Davids felt our "warmth".

Edgar Davids meet and greet was in fact a kick start to The Tiger Street Football in Singapore. It is the second stop of the tournament which will be hosted in five Asian countries this year. The tournament promises a bigger competition filled with “battles” that reflect the flair and diverse styles associated with 5-a-side street football. Tiger Street Football Singapore is presented by internationally acclaimed Tiger Beer and is set to treat football fans and the general public to a showcase of the best street football action from local and international teams.
Here are the results for the Regional and National Champions of The Tiger Street Football Singapore...

Touch N Go has emerged as national champions of the second edition of Tiger Street Football Singapore which was held today at Clarke Quay. Witnessed by a packed audience, the tournament culminated with a thrilling final which saw Touch N Go defeating La Plata Juniors with a 2-0 scoreline.
Featuring 32 local teams, today’s National Finals showcased “battles” that reflected the flair and diverse styles associated with 5-a-side street football. The tournament was played on a unique caged, hard-court pitch with no side-lines and with a shorter, high-energy match format of two 6-minute halves with a 2-minute halftime period.
As winners of the tournament, Touch N Go walked away with a cash prize of USD3,000 as well as the chance to represent Singapore in the Tiger Street Football Grand Finals to be held in Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam on 28 September.
As finalists of today’s competition, both Touch N Go and La Plata Juniors will get the opportunity to compete against four invited international teams to win additional cash prizes in tomorrow’s Tiger Street Football Regional Competition to be held at the same venue. The four international teams hail from Argentina, Brazil, Malaysia and Thailand.

Futsar Argentina are the newly crowned champions of the Tiger Street Football Regional Competition in Singapore after defeating favourites and reigning champions, Team Floripa Street Fotball from Brazil with a tight scoreline of 4-3. Played at Clarke Quay, today’s competition featured international and local teams vying for the grand prize of USD5,000.
