6 Weeks Of Fashion Celebration Kickstarted With Samsung Fashion Steps Out 2015 Along Orchard Road

On Saturday, we saw 176 models strutting on the streets of Orchard Road at their annual anchor event - Samsung Fashion Steps Out  (FSO) 2015. Being Singapore's biggest runway show for 6th year in the running, this year's show presented a slightly different approach as we celebrate SG50.

This year, Samsung has rejoined the celebratory event as the Official Technology Partner as they launch the latest Samsung Galaxy S6 4G+ and Galaxy S6 edge 4G+ in tandem. Previously, we have already sneak previewed the specially designed fashion pieces by Joe Chia at the Samsung Galaxy S6 World Tour 2015 Gala Dinner. But when these unique pieces were presented at FSO 2015 with the models stepping out of the Samsung truck, the whole futuristic feel paired with the new Samsung smartphones was leveled up.

Before the fashion show began, we were treated to drinks and canapés at the exclusive Fashion Tea Party set within a garden at ION Orchard. We all felt like little Alice-s in our Wonderland, partying and chatting away, listening to the DJ spin. I even spotted a few pretty celebrities (Paige Chua, Ya Hui, Belinda Lee, Asia's Next Top Model Season 3 contestants - Aimee Bradshaw from Singapore and Melissa Tan from Malaysia) in our midst!

The fashion show was hosted by Junita Simon, arriving like a queen with her accompanying hunks, walking alongside her "carriage". Her headband spelling "FAB@50" was definitely a stealer as photographers snapped non-stop.

During the runway show, we got to see the latest Spring/ Summer outfits of international designers - Mary Katranzou, Ashley Isham (London), Moiselle (HongKong), Germain (France), Aimer (China), Paul Nethapol (Thailand), Sean & Sheila (Indonesia) and Fox (Israel).

But the special SG50 segment by the local designers - Max Tan (max.tan), Pauline Ning (PAULINE.NING), Kenny Lim (DEPRESSION), Francis Cheong (Francis Cheong) and Chiang Xiao Jun (Pleatation), was something we all looked forward to as the designers showcased their futuristic collection to forecast the fashion scene of SG Next50 years.

SG Next50: Fashion Futurism 
Apart from the 50 outfits on display which symbolizes Fashion Reflection, Then and Now, visitors can catch a glimpse of the creative development process and the inspiration behind the collections that pay tribute to Singapore's Fashion and Style. 

My favourite has got to be the Ashley Isham's presentation of his Fall/Winter 2015 collection. It is fresh from the recent London Fashion Week and though some of you might be saying it's not for our weather, I am willing to blast my aircon just to don them on. LOL!

Why? 'Coz of his clever use of bells, chains, fur and LED lights, every outfit is a statement piece ringing in my head. Looking at every detail, you know you are in for a unique piece of clothing that will make you stand out in every way and this collection rocks luxe punk with a different direction from his previous styles!

Of course, the fun just doesn't stop there! FSO 2015 is just an appetizer to 6 weeks of shopping promotions and activities along Orchard Road. If you are an Orchard Roadie like me, who is hanging out here 24/7, you have to take note of these following events...

Style on the Move with Samsung - 11-12 April, 18-19 April and 25-26 April

Two specially outfitted Style on the Move trucks will make their appearance in front of Ngee Ann City and Mandarin Gallery in the first three weekends of FSO 2015. Hop onto the trucks and get the latest buzz of FSO 2015 via the @Orchard mobile app or FSO 2015 microsite while trying out the new elegant Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge phones.

Fashion Sculpture - 10 April - 24 May 2015

Located in front of Ngee Ann City, the 3m by 1.2m installation gives visitors the opportunity to direct their own cover photo shoot. By using their smartphones or the Samsung Galaxy S6 4G+ available for the first 3 weekends at the Fashion Sculpture, visitors can capture their best looks and upload to Instagram with the hashtag #fashionstepsout. Be the very first #fashionstepsout ‪#‎orchardnexttopmodel‬!

Fashion Splash - 1 - 21 May 2015

The iconic Singapore Merlion becomes a fashionista for FSO 2015. To creatively engage the community, familiar national icon, the Merlion, is recreated in clay figurines and fashionably styled by faculty and students of Raffles Design Institute. Reimagined with a modern, stylish and modernised edge, the figurines will be exhibited at orchardgateway Level 1. This Fashion Splash showcase is composed of 30 figurines (15 of which at 20cm in height; the other 15 at 40cm tall).

"My students and I are thrilled to be a part of Fashion Splash and look forward to dressing the iconic Merlion in celebration of Singapore's Jubilee Year. Dressing figurines is reminiscent of the early days of fashion in France, when fashion dolls were used to convey looks and showcase designs. Samsung Galaxy S4 is here!

On 18th April, Samsung Electronics announced that GALAXY S4 With LTE will be available in Singapore from 27 April 2013, at $998, without contract, in Black Mist and White Frost. In celebration of this launch and for the perfect combination of style and technology, Samsung is also bringing exciting activities to consumers, as Presenting Sponsor of this year’s Samsung Fashion Steps Out (FSO) 2013.

At the trade and media launch event (held at Gardens By The Bay), I got to preview the capsule collections of renowned fashion designers – Ashley Isham and Joe Chia, a sneak peek to what you will be able to catch at the iconic Orchard Fashion Runway on 4 May 2013.

In comparison with my Samsung GALAXY Note 2, the Samsung GALAXY S4 is smaller in size, easier to grip with 1 hand. It's a little bit more boxy and thicker, pretty much similar to the iPhone 4.

The Samsung GALAXY S4 also enables connection through the Samsung HomeSync, a home hub solution with a shared storage fit for a family. Sync to multiple devices, provide shared or private storage for 8 seperate accounts within your family, stream content from your GALAXY device wirelessly to the TV.

The 'S Translator' provides instant translation, using text or voice translation on applications including email, text message and ChatON. This instant translation is possible both from speech to text and text to speech, ensuring that you can rely on the correct information whilst abroad.

And talking about being abroad, you know there are times when you would be in cold countries and taking off your gloves can be such an unwanted gesture right? Now with the screen being Glove Friendly. You can enjoy using your phone without taking the gloves off!

Another function that I love and I think has to go into every single mobile phone is the 'S Voice Drive'. It allows you to activate commands via voice control for greater convenience when driving.  Once connected with a car Bluetooth  the phone can automatically turn into driving mode converting text to speech so you can easily and safely check messages without having to get distracted and look at the screen.

Some other hidden innovations that go into that little smart phone... Now you kn0ow why they are called smart!

Exclusive GALAXY S4 With LTE accessories which was available at launch include the S-View Cover ($98 in black and white) and Flip Cover ($68 in black and white).

The S-View Cover  identical in a lot of ways to the popular Flip Covers for the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, but it has a window at the top of the cover that can provide you with basic information. Without having to flip open your cover, you get to view the time or if you have notifications, a simple press on the lock switch will show you a special preview with clock, date, and notification bar. The S View Flip Cover sleeps and wakes the phone upon opening and shutting and the window also allows you to answer or decline calls without having to open the cover!

From 17 April, consumers can register their interest online with the mobile operators or visit Samsung Experience Stores to place a pre-order with a $50 deposit. Upon collection, consumers will receive a GALAXY S4 With LTE Limited Edition Accessory Pack (worth $160) consisting of a car charger, desktop dock and HDTV adapter, while stocks last.

One of the featured designs of “Fashion Prints - A Trunk Show”, created by fashion design student, Cassie Jiang Bo Yang, and a specially-designed version by renowned Singaporean street artist, Mazlan Ahmad, will be incorporated into protective cover designs for the Samsung GALAXY S4 With LTE. These limited edition protective covers will be unveiled at the Orchard Fashion Runway, and will be available for sale at Samsung Experience Stores from 4 May 2013.
