The Bras Basah.Bugis precinct will be transformed into an array of
bright lights and sounds from 24 & 25 August and 31 August & 1
September 2012.
Dancers from Argentina will fly through the air, and dance on water in the middle of the Arts and Heritage precinct, while the façade of the National Museum will become a giant outdoor screen telling a unique story of Singapore at this year’s Night Festival 2012.
These are just some of the highlights at the fifth instalment of the Night Festival, presented by the National Heritage Board (NHB) and set to run on two weekends –
24 to 25 August and 31 August to 1 September 2012.

1. This year’s festival is the biggest ever with a record turnout of partners based in the Bras Basah.Bugis Arts and Heritage Precinct, who will be supporting the Festival for the very first time. Partners such as The Cathay, Timbre, Switch, Vanguard Building, CHIJMES, LOOF, Select Books and the School of the Arts (SOTA), have all stepped forward to play a vital role in the festivities. For instance, The Cathay and Vanguard Building will be stepping forward to host performances at their premises, while SOTA has been part of Night Festival since 2011.
2. The festival promises to bring buzz and vibrancy to the Precinct in new ways. The whole area between Cathay Building to Armenian Street will be transformed into a carnival ground with the main events taking place in the public green spaces of Singapore Management University, National Museum of Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, The Peranakan Museum, The Substation, among others.
3. This year, festivities have spread in force to Armenian Street, which will be closed, for the first time, on the second festival weekend - 29 August and 30 August from 8pm to 12am (rehearsals), and, 31 August and 1 September from 8pm to 2am (actual performances). With key acts being brought out into the street, as well as precinct partners throwing open their doors for performances and other activities, audiences will be in for a greater and more exhilarating night to remember.
4. Said Ivee Zeng, Marketing Executive of Vanguard Interiors who will be welcoming Night Festival performances inside the building for the first time, “Night Festival has always been an exciting event for the Bras Basah.Bugis Arts and Heritage Precinct. This year, we are pleased to actually be part of this thrilling Festival. It is also meaningful for us to participate as we are housed in a historical building, which should bring back good memories for visitors when they stop by to watch the artists perform. We’re sure this will be an unforgettable experience not only for us as stakeholders of the precinct, but also for the Night Festival visitors.”
A showcase for local talent
5. This year, Night Festival is also focusing on local talents. As a platform for the best of our local talents to perform with foreign acts, Night Festival promises a lively exchange of skills, culture and talent for the performers as well as the audience. On the second weekend of 31 August and 1 September, aerial performances taken from the wildly popular off-broadway show, Fuerzabruta by Ozono Producciones from Argentina will blend poetry in dance with gravity-defying feats. For their debut in Singapore, Ozono Producciones will be performing three segments from Fuerzabruta for Night Festival 2012 - La Argentina, Corredoras and Mylar - bringing you collaborations between Argentinean ingenuity and some of our finest homemade artists. La Argentina will be accompanied by Dunman High School and local musicians The Analog Girl, Kiat, Dharni and Bloco Singapore.
6. More local performers are stepping up to take the stage this year. To complement Night Lights 2012, Singapore’s very own Brian Gothong Tan will present his creation, WE THE PEOPLE, a six-minute experimental film that will be projected onto the façade of the National Museum of Singapore. Consisting of three segments, the film samples and remixes familiar imagery associated with Singapore’s culture and history. Watch our historical buildings come to life and tell a story of their own.
7. Angelita Teo, Director of NHB’s Festivals and Precinct Development Division, said: “2012 marks the fifth instalment of the Night Festival, which has over the years demonstrated how art, heritage and culture can inject vibrancy and life into the heart of the city. This year the festival is bigger than ever with two weekends of programming, and a record number of partnerships with our precinct stakeholders. It is important to highlight that Night Festival provides a national platform for our local performing talents to showcase their creativity, creates buzz and vibrancy in the precinct, and also brings Singaporeans together to celebrate and create new shared memories.”

8. On top of our amazing line up for Night Festival, The National Museum of Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, and the Peranakan Museum will also open their doors to visitors until 2am on both weekends. Visitors to Night Festival 2012 are ensured that they will not run out of things to do over the two weekends!
