A Flavourful Date Night in Singapore: Penang Street Food Dreams Come True at Edge, Pan Pacific

Hi Huneybees,

When you go on a double couples' date....

If you and your partner are foodies like us, here’s a scrumptious date idea that’s sure to spice up your June evenings -  the Penang Hawker Fare at Edge, Pan Pacific Singapore

Running from 2 to 29 June 2025, this isn’t just another buffet, it’s a culinary getaway straight into the heart of Penang’s iconic street food scene. Imagine taking a quick “trip” to Malaysia without ever leaving Singapore; just the two of you, hand in hand, discovering bold, nostalgic flavours with every bite.

You’ll be tasting the best of Penang, lovingly recreated by legendary hawkers in collaboration with Executive Chef Andy Oh, Executive Sous Chef Patrick Ooi, Sous Chef Anson Ngan, and their talented Culinary Team at Edge. Together, they’re bringing the sizzling energy and authentic taste of Penang’s most iconic dishes to life, perfect for a foodie date night to remember.

Even better, from 2 to 15 June, you’ll get to watch three legendary Penang hawkers live in action, right at the buffet stations! It was a rare treat to see these masters at work:

  • Chef Toon Chin Hye of Ah Soon Fried Oyster - trust us, his fried oyster omelette is the real deal, crispy, savoury and packed with wok hei!

  • Chef Tan Pow Lai from Tan Kee Poh Piah - his handmade popiah skins are a work of art, and watching him roll each one is like witnessing edible origami.

  • Chef Chew Soon Hock of Swatow Lane Ice Kacang - who has been celebrated for decades for his handcrafted Nyonya desserts and traditional kueh. For those with a sweet tooth, his traditional Penang Cendol and Durian Pengat Ice Kacang are the ultimate way to end your night on a high.

For us, date nights are all about sharing - not just the laughter, but the flavours too. So why not turn your evening into a little culinary adventure?

Start with a bold bite of Sambal Petai wrapped in fresh lettuce that's spicy, punchy, and perfect for the brave-hearted duo. Then cosy up with comforting bowls of Penang Assam Laksa or Prawn Mee, slurping side by side as the tangy, umami-rich broths warm your soul. And don’t even think about leaving without trying Chef Andy’s Signature 'Wok Hey' Penang Char Kuey Teow which is smoky, rich, and absolutely unforgettable.

Create your own rojak...

But the journey doesn’t stop there. Edge’s Penang Hawker Fare offers an irresistible spread of flavours:

  • Tangy Penang Rojak

  • Zesty Nyonya Mango Kerabu

  • Crispy Loh Bak

  • Aromatic Curry Capitan

  • Tender Nyonya Inchi Kabin

  • Spicy Assam Pedas Fish with Lady’s Finger

  • Too Kar Chor (Braised Pork Vinegar Trotters)

And when your tummies are full, make room for sweet endings:
💖 Muah Chee that melts in your mouth,
🌰 Tau Sar Piah for a crumbly, nostalgic bite,
🥭 Durian Crêpes,
🍬 and even Pickled Nutmeg for that tangy, palate-cleansing finish.

Whether you’re trying something new together or reminiscing about trips to Penang, every dish is a conversation starter and a memory in the making. And when you're both full from all the Penang delights? Hit the seafood bar! Snow crab legs, Boston lobster, scallops, and so much more await, perfect for sharing those luxurious bites with each other.

This epicurean escape is set in Edge’s beautiful contemporary space, with live cooking stations, warm lighting, and panoramic views; a dreamy setup for a date night that feels both elevated and intimate.

Feast 2017 Away At Spice Brasserie (PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road)

| |
Hi Huneybees,

It's the end of the year and it's definitely the time of the year where we meet up with our friends and relatives to do a little catch-up, and what better way to do that than to do it Singaporean style - Makan Feast!

Taking pride in the unique location in the heart of Little India, the hotel’s culinary team brings forth
Christmas with an Indian twist, presenting a Roasted Whole Turkey in Tandoori Style, paired with a
piquant Spicy Coconut Gravy, that’s sure to satiate taste buds hankering after something spicy in a
season often overwhelmed by sweet treats!

Of course, there's also the dishes that's on a more traditional Yuletide note like Roasted Whole Turkey with Chestnut Stuffing, Giblet Sauce and Cranberry Sauce or savoury carving dishes such as Honey Baked Ham with Pineapple Raisin Sauce (one of my must try!) and Crispy Pork Knuckle that promise to enrich any gathering with flavours of a most cozy, hearty Christmas.

For the seafood lovers, don't miss out on the cold food section where you can find fresh Holland Mussels, Oysters and Lobster Claws alongside the sashimi slices. And for something warm,  go on over to the chefs and order yourself the Claypot Pumpkin Crab and also pick up the Mango Lobster.

These 2 dishes had me going in for seconds and thirds. They are simply fresh and unable to find in other buffets out there. You have got to snag them fast coz they run out very fast...

Another recommended must try for me is also the Roasted Prime Beef with Black Pepper and Mushroom Sauce. I picked those that are cooked medium rare, paired with the specially made sauce, it was heaven in my mouth with that tenderness!

Yes! That's cake too!

Those with sweet-tooth, don't forget to end your buffet feast with their delectable choices of Christmas desserts. They have the standard Chocolate Log Cake, but what I love the most is the Christmas White Chocolate and Lemon Curd Log Cake for its zesty-sweet taste combination. Also, enjoy a nice warm serving of the Bread & Butter Pudding with Dried Cranberries. They have it nicely made, soft like marshmallow and not overly sweet.

The Festive Feasting is now available at Spice Brasserie, with a full spread of seasonal fare to be enjoyed and below are the charges. For more information and to book your tables for the buffet, go to https://www.parkroyalhotels.com/en/hotels-resorts/singapore/kitchener/stay/dining/spice-brasserie.html or make the call at +65 6428 3160.

Enjoy the wide spread of festive treats and enjoy the last few moments of 2017 as you usher in the New Year! Bon Appétit ~

Are You Craving for Noodles Now?

| |
Hi Huneybees,

Whether be it Wanton Noodle, Mee Pok Dry, Mee Goreng or Mee Rubus, I am a sucker for all of them as noodle has always been my comfort food since young.

Recently while attending an event at City Square Mall, I had an opportunity to dine at a new noodle house on the block in Singapore - Face to Face noodle house (面 对 面). Unknown to some, Face to Face noodle house (面 对 面) is a 100 years old brand name with 30 outlets all over Malaysia and the outlet in City Square Mall is its first venture into Singapore.

A quick look at its menu suggested that it is a Malaysian Hakka-style noodle store with its exclusive use of Pan mee (Chinese: 板麺, pronounced as ban mian). It's block noodles from the Hakka's method of cutting the noodle into straight strands using a wooden block as ruler. Being Hakka myself, how can I not like these noodles eh?

Armed with an empty stomach, I ordered its signature Traditional Sarawak Noodles as well as one of its new Singapore creations Curry Chicken Pan Mee.

My verdict on the food?

Size wise, I was glad to find the serving portion for both noodles were reasonable large for my hungry tummy and its char siu (叉燒)s and Curry Chicken were thicker and bigger than most noodle stores would serve in a shopping mall environment.

Curry Chicken Pan Mee

Taste wise, I found the Pan mee of Traditional Sarawak Noodles slightly overcooked and was kinda blend while its char siu (叉燒) were too hard and dry to my liking. I enjoyed the aroma of the curry from Curry Chicken Pan Mee but unfortunately it was a little too salty.

Like beauty, which is in the eye of the beholder, food is the same for taster; subjective.
The battle of the noodle houses has just started and Face to Face noodle house (面 对 面) needs more than its 100 years branding from across the causeway to stay alive here. Before I sign off for my meal, I do suggest all non-halal Huneybees who have dined at Face to Face noodle house (面 对 面) in City Square Mall to share your unadulterated view with me.
