Shape the Singapore in 100 with the #BuildSG2065 Contest

| |
Hi Huneybees,

SG50 have been in the talks since last year and as the nation gathers to celebrate Singapore's 50th year of amazing nation building, it is time to take things further by seeing how the future Singapore will look like in 100 years, as we celebrate BuildSG2065.

What do you think a Futurama Singapore will look like? So much is flooding in my head when it comes to building a futuristic world. Shows like The Jetsons, Aliens, Matrix, Tron, Doraemon, Minority Report, Terminator, Robocop, might have set the stage but thinking in terms of - "Go Green", "Smart Spaces", "Space-Age Kampungs" and "Weatherproof World", what do you have in mind?

Have you heard about the #BuildSG2065 contest?
This interesting contest will test your creativity and allow you to put your imagination to good use, by sculpting the 2065 Singapore that you want. Simpy submit your ideas to: http://buildsg2065.straitstimes.com , in the any form of Text, Video or Images. Do remember to categorize you ideas according to these themes:
  • Go Green
  • Smart Spaces
  • Space-Age Kampungs
  • Weatherproof World

This contest is brought to us by The Straits Times and CapitaLand to ask Singaporeans to cast their minds into the future and share your ideas on building a better and sustainable environment for us to live, work and play in Singapore in Singapore2065. The entries could be showcased in a forthcoming exhibition featuring the past, present and future of Singapore through the pages of The Straits Times, which celebrates its 170th anniversary this year. The top innovative and creative ideas submitted will stand to win attractive prizes and there are also weekly prizes ($50 CapitaVouchers) for top 5 ideas with the most ‘Likes’ and more.

So what would my ideal 2065 Singapore look like?
So, Stephen King has already thought of it, why don't we just improve on it?

Well, I would love to see a world where disasters can be brought down to bare minimum, who says we can't control the weather? The human race could be living in a man made world, shielded from all the unpredictable weather disasters, lesser deaths and family losses and what's better, we could even harness energy, say from a typhoon to generate more electricity. This will not only be allowing us to have a weatherproof world, but also a green one!

And whilst on the topic of Going Green, isn't it a waste having to always changing your mobile phone and batteries for remote controls etc? It's all adding to the burden of un-recyclable waste, so why not a gadget to do it all? We can all own a just a simple transparent plastic that is so intelligent, it will be your all-in-one gadget device. Highly and easily customization, you can make calls, send messages, navigate your way, control your tv, your home appliances, and even have this as a torchlight or night light, simply with just a swipe on this device! Wouldn't that be cool?!

Hey, and maybe we could all go underground too! Singapore is practically warm all year round, why not have the cooling sea around us, cool us down? Imagine, building our houses, our schools, our shopping malls under the sea, we can simply save on the air conditioners and saving space too! We don't have to shrink our houses just simply coz we don't have enough land space, now we have sea space too! Yipee! Time to go searching for some mermaids! :X

With so much technology getting in our way, we have started to drift away. It is definitely time to bring in the kampung spirit again! Of course, now with technology improving greatly, we can have activities like group space trips, time sharing those rockets and space resorts, competition to "fish" for stars.

And I believe by then, household helping robots are easily accessible, why not share them? We can work out the timetable and have these household helpers going to different households at different timings to help out with the chores and that will definitely be sparking out more neighbour-ly interaction too! Of course, if you have one as adorable and as compact as Baymax, you have got to share some love!:D

So so so, what's your future Singapore in 2065 gona be like?
This contest is open to public and there are tons of prizes up for grabs.

[Tried & Tested] Beat The Blur With 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® for ASTIGMATISM

| |
Hi Huneybees,

I've had Astigmatism since childhood and my vision has always been blur, as though I am in some Matrix movie where I'm always seeing doubles. My vision is only clear when I wear my glasses and because of vanity reasons, I do not wear them most of the time.

What's worse is ever since I got to wear coloured contact lens 2 years ago, I simply wear them to beautify my eyes and showoff my makeup skills, I literally wore the lens in 0 degrees, and not wear my glasses until I know I am "safely" home.

So basically, this happens to me most of the time...

It is super embarrassing when it is not only about missing the bus. I tend to overlook alot of things, like recognizing the wrong people or even ignoring my friends! It is the most excruciating during sales time, when I have to strain my eyes just to make sure I am getting the best deal out the dress I'm eyeing on!

No way! It's time I say No! I'm gona Beat the Blur with HEALTHY EYES just like Aloysius Pang ((lifestyle blogger and up-and-coming actor) ), the ambassador for 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® for ASTIGMATISM. I was invited to the launch event and I even got to give it a test, where I'm fully converted now...

From Johnson & Johnson Vision Care (JJVC) Singapore comes the 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® for ASTIGMATISM. At the event, Ms Esther Seah, Senior Brand Manager for Singapore & Malaysia Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, shared that most of the people (in fact 64% of contact lens wearers) do not realise that they have astigmatism and tend to increase  their myopia power of their existing contact lenses in an attempt to see clearly. Such ‘masking’ not only does not correct their astigmatism, it may also potentially worsen their symptoms!

Acuvue has worked closely with the Institutions of learning, Health and Regulatory Authorities, Associations and Eye Care Professionals, to raise awareness to Astigmatism. Not only have they launched the 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® for ASTIGMATISM, they have also worked with their ambassador - Aloysius Pang with the ‘Beat the Blur with HEALTHY Eyes’ astigmatism campaign.

1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® for ASTIGMATISM ambassadorAloysius Pang sharing with us his experience in beating the blur.

It was kicked off on 11 July 2013 with the “Embarrassing Moments” video starring lifestyle blogger and up-and-coming actor Aloysius Pang who portrays an astigmat who did not correct his astigmatism, gets caught out by a case of mistaken identity, resulting in a series of funny yet embarrassing moments which we can all relate to. The 6-month campaign is part of JJVC’s continued drive for public education on the impact of astigmatism and how to properly correct it. You can check out more about it here.

At the event, Ms. Shirley Loh, Public Professional Affairs Manager for JJVC Singapore and a trained optometrist did a test on blogger William Tan and myself with a on-the-spot eye test. I learnt that I do not have to compromise my vision for beauty and now with the contact lens, I can now flaunt my beauty without having to cover it up with glasses or having to squint when things get blurry!

I've been wearing the 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® for ASTIGMATISM contact lens everyday ever since the event. It is super comfy, even though I wore them for the whole day, I do not feel the drynes in my eyes and I do not need any eye drop at all! While, that's because all ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses, including 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® for ASTIGMATISM, comes with ACUVUE® Triple Care – Moisture, Oxygen and UV Protection – to keep eyes healthy and comfortable all day

Even though it might be a little costly compared to those monthly coloured lens that I buy (One box of 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® for ASTIGMATISM (30 pieces) retails at SGD 69.00), but I like that it is daily lens, where I don't have to think storing them, cleaning them at the end of the day. I can simply remove and go straight to bed, especially on days when I'm super tired.

I also don't have to worry about eye irritation from mishandling of the lens, fall outs from mascaras or even during the hazy days. It's hygienic, fuss free and comfortable, definitely something I don't mind spending a little more on.

Wana know if you have Astigmatism? Try these few tests...
