My Embarrassing Moments with Astigmatism

Did you know that more than half of Astigmats contact lens wearers are not wearing the right contact lenses to correct their astigmatism? As some of you may know, I have astigmatism – just like many other Singaporeans. I did not go about correcting it the right way in the beginning. So, let me share with you my embarrassing moments with astigmatism in this entry!


I have been wearing spectacles since primary school. It all started when I found myself complaining and squinting to figure out the words on the whiteboard in class.

Even my nephew goes errr… when I wear spectacles :D

Eventually, when I started having headaches because of this, my mum decided to get my eyes checked by an Eye Care Professional. It was then I found out that I had astigmatism! I was prescribed with spectacles to correct my astigmatism, but wasn’t very comfortable wearing them all the time. As I grew older and became vainer: spectacles were such a hassle and I looked so dorky in them. So I decided to ditch them.

That’s me in primary school. Don’t I look dorky?!

One day when I was out shopping, I saw the back profile of a guy who I thought was my friend. I called out to him, but he couldn’t hear me. So, I ran up to him while shouting his name. When I caught up with him finally, I tapped on his shoulder and he turned his head. By then, it was too late for me to realise that he was the wrong guy! Not only did the onlookers stare at me, but his girlfriend beside him also gave me the “who are you” look. It was a totally “OOPS” embarrassing moment for me!

[Tried & Tested] Beat The Blur & Join Me In Getting Healthy Eyes Today!

As you guys would have known, I've been posting a lot about 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® for ASTIGMATISM Brand Contact Lenses on my Social Media. But seriously, it is something I have tried and tested, feel good about, and I want to share all the goodness with my darling Huneybees!

I always think that they make me look dorky and I want to show off my beautiful eye shadow colours. So you can say that I looked good, but could never see clearly. In fact, that made me look uglier. I seemed to be making funny faces when I squinted and most of the time, I strained my eyes so hard, I get headaches by evening. It was definitely not healthy for my eyes, but I had just ignored it until I was invited to go for an eye check.

The Eye Care Professional told me that I haven’t been wearing the right contact lenses to properly correct my Astigmatism and I knew she was right when I went through the eye exam. The eye exam showed that my Astigmatism has increased! What is Astigmatism?

I've had Astigmatism since childhood and my vision has always been blur, as though I am in some Matrix movie where I'm always seeing doubles. My vision is only clear when I wear my glasses and because of vanity reasons, I do not wear them most of the time.

At the event, Ms. Shirley Loh, Public Professional Affairs Manager for JJVC Singapore and a trained optometrist did a test on blogger William Tan and myself with a on-the-spot eye test. I learnt that I do not have to compromise my vision for beauty and now with the contact lens, I can now flaunt my beauty without having to cover it up with glasses or having to squint when things get blurry!
