Hotel Jen Singapore will be celebrating their 1st 'birthday' tomorrow 31 March 2016 and you are invited to join her at her birthday celebration.

Hotel Jen is the newest brand of the Shangri-La Group with both Hotel Jen Tanglin and Hotel Jen Orchardgateway in Orchard Road vicinity to hosts our guests. Both Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore and Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore invite guests to join the celebrations on 31st March, where they will be hosting a Hawker themed buffet dinner in their restaurants J65 and Makan@Jen.

The concurrent celebration buffet dinners will kick-off from 6.00pm, featuring famous hawker stall favourites in addition to their usual international buffet. Makan@Jen will be highlighting traditional Bak Kut Teh by Song Fa.

As part of its commitment to embracing local talent in the food and beverage industry, J65 at Hotel Jen Tanglin will be showcasing pop-ups from Singapore food heroes:
• The Hungry Bazterdz will be serving their famous Grilled Soy Garlic Chicken with Truffle Fries/ Nacho Fries as well as Jerk Chicken and fries
• Uncle G Handmade will be dishing up his signature crispy roast pork
• The new Kaffles specialty waffle shop will whip up a choice of Buttermilk and Thai milk tea waffles with maple syrup, mini cone and icing sugar
• Resident Hotel Jen coffee specialist Nomad the Gallant Coffee will be offering refreshing Thai Iced Tea.

A complimentary shuttle bus will be running between the two hotels from 6:00pm – 8:00pm for guests to celebrate ‘That Jen Feeling’ - which will culminate in a cake cutting party at Hotel Jen Orchardgateway Singapore at the rooftop bar, BayWatch@Jen, at 8:30pm. The huge cake will be infused with local flavours, fragrances and decorations, giving a true taste of the Lion City.

Adidas King of the Road Returns with Brand New Categories - 10km Public & 10km School Relay Races

Southeast Asia’s ultimate running event is back and set to attract record participation with two new categories this year. Come 11 August 2013, the third edition of the adidas King of the Road (KOTR) race returns to the Lion City with a colourful route set against the scenic Gardens by the Bay.

Continuing the tradition since its official launch in 2011, the KOTR race will tour five countries – Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia (in chronological order) – offering the most scenic local city race routes available to running enthusiasts. Each country’s race is a qualifying leg, culminating in the grand finals in Malaysia where the ultimate champion will be crowned the adidas Southeast Asia ‘King of the Road 2013’.

With a unique 16.8km route, the city race is targeted at everyone who likes to run – from the social runner to the serious athlete. For those who are up to the challenge, KOTR also encourages runners to take part in all five events across Southeast Asia. This covers a total distance of 84 km, the equivalent of two full marathons.

For the first time, KOTR is introducing a School Championship Category targeted at tertiary institutions. Made up of a 10km relay, a male and female pair will stand a chance to represent their institution to vie for the school championship title. The winning pair will be determined by the fastest combined timing.

This year’s edition will also see new additions including a 10km category (Male Open category and Female Open category). The event is divided into seven categories:

As KOTR runners move about the city, they will be part of the most colourful race in the region. Participants will be geared up in multi-coloured adidas race t-shirts – a symbolic representation of the vibrancy of the Southeast Asia’s sports scene.

Each country is a qualifying leg towards the finals, which will be held in Malaysia on 20 October 2013. The winner of each country’s 16.8km closed category will win an expense paid trip to Malaysia to compete with the best of the best in Southeast Asia. An estimated total of over 11,000 passionate runners are expected to pound the streets of Singapore.

Runners can sign up and register online at the official Singapore adidas KOTR website (http://adidaskingoftheroad.com/sg/) from 13 May 2013. The early bird participation fees for the 16.8km and 10km categories are SGD$50 and SGD$40 respectively till 17 June 2013. The closing date is marked at 12 July 2013.

Singapura, Lion City <辉煌新加坡>

Hi Huneybees,

I was recently invited by Darren to go watch the musical, Singapura, Lion City <辉煌新加坡>. I have been seeing the advertisements on TV and was glad,  got the invitation and previewed the musical before it was premiered.

That day, not only it was the preview of the musical, it was also a celebration for the renovated Kallang Theatre. Basically the theatre looks the same, just that it has been refurbished and seats were reupholstered.

We met Stephen there...

The stage was set and the hosts were introducing.

The musical is a fusion of colours and breathtaking performances enriched with key historical events of Singapore journey re-enacted through a performance like never before with international collaborations and cutting-edge technology that promises to take you on a mind-blowing roller coaster ride through the hard and proud times of the little dot of the world. --- Excerpt from brochure

Here'e the climax! Merlion was "dished" out, bright lights was on and all the performaers came out to take a bow.

I was very impressed by the theatrics in the beginning. Loved how they portrayed history of Singapore without much explanation, singing or conversing. But after the history parts, the rest was just dancing and acrobats. It got us laughing and chuckling, I was superbly disappointed and felt like I was watching some theatre stage performance in China. At certain parts of the show, I nearly dozed off, luckily the aim to take good photos, kept me going.

I must say good effort on their part, but it will be better if they could incorporate somethings Singaporeans could relate to. Maybe more of the local symbols - Orchard Road, how it changed over the years or even characters like Liang Po Po for that nostalgic feel?

I wouldn't say this is a highly recommended show. Even for students, I think you can learn more about the history of Singapore on textbooks ~
