Reliving The Moments When We Laughed & Cried To The Secret (不能说的秘密)

Remember those days when you can't stop humming and singing to Jay Chou's song - Secret (不能说的秘密)? It was the theme song for his first ever acting role in a movie, not only did he play the lead role, he also co-wrote the movie. I still can't forget leaving the cinema heavily filled with emotions and memories of those puppy love days.

After 10 years since the movie was released, this beautiful story is now brought on stage as a musical - THE SECRET, by Beijing producer - Ivy Zhong of China Broadway Entertainment. It's highly raved in China and this April, the production will step out of the country with Singapore being the first stop. In the realm of musicals, THE SECRET is the first film production in Asia that has been deemed adaptable by Broadway, even Jay Chou himself has given pointers and was impressed how pop music can be used in a musical.

So, come travel through time with student and piano major - Ye Xiang Lun (played by Cao Yang) and his beautiful "fellow student" - Lu Xiaoyu (played by Wang Xiaomin) on this musical adaptation of the movie.

A sneak peek of the musical...

Though almost similar to the original movie, the Broadway creative team have also added their own touch to incorporate Jay's songs like Clear Stars (星晴), Listen to Mother's Words (听妈妈的话), Simple Love (简单爱), The Tea Grandpa Makes (爷爷泡的茶), Rooftop (屋顶), Dandelion's Promise (蒲公英的约定), Cowboy Is Very Busy (牛仔很忙), etc.

I find this musical version funnier, filled with more vigor, just in time for the summer season; and fans of Jay Chou (*like me and hubby) will definitely be humming and tapping along with the songs.

I especially love the vocals of both leads - Cao Yang being in the musical industry for awhile and Jay Chou being his idol, he embodies a young Jay when he just debuted 10 years ago; Xiaomin, on the other hand, is a popular singer in China who has won several music awards, acted in movies and dramas as well as performed on CCTV's Spring Festival Gala programmes.

Also, I'm very impressed by the stage design where perspective angles help create the 3D feel and also displaying the travel through time and space creatively. You might find that the stage is risen higher and that is because the team creates their own background tracks for them to change from scene to scene. Ain't that impressive?

I love this fresh take on musicals, how the marrying of Asia culture into Broadway productions. I'm definitely looking forward to more of such crossover works of art. Let's give them our support! JJ Lin To Make Special Appearance At Samsung Fashion Steps Out @ Orchard 2016

New season calls for more updates in the wardrobe and the annual Orchard Road affair - Samsung Fashion Steps Out @ Orchard 2016 [FSO 2016] will definitely be supplying lots of inspirations and shopping promotions during this 6-week extravaganza from 25 March – 8 May 2016.

Chen Man 陳曼 Empowers Sexiness In Her Photoshoots

I just did a blog post on M.A.C.'s recent collection - ChenMan Love & Water and seriously, I never got to know who Chen Man is until this collection. *Sorry Chen Man* A little Google search on Chen Man and tons of posts and definitely beautiful images filled my computer screen. Below is an interview with her during the shoot for M.A.C's collection.

 There's a little sense of pride in me that an Asian is picked as inspiration for a M.A.C. collection!

So who's Chen Man?

Well, she's Beijing's leading photographer and over the years, she has contributed to some of the world's best-known lifestyle magazines and campaigned for international brands such as Motorola and Adidas.

She gained prominence in 2003 when she completed a series of ground-breaking covers for the China-based design and arts magazine Vision. Although then still a student at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, the images she produced crashed the conservatism of China’s media industry at the time and captured the spirit of creative possibility that was driving a new generation of artists and designers. She then made eight covers for Vision and each image is based on an original studio shot that is digitally enhanced in post production. 

However, it is the eclectic range of motifs and influences in her work, from Mickey Mouse and Manga to the Three Gorges Dam and the Great Wall, that best characterize her aesthetic. Her success far exceeds what many photographers can achieve in that same period of time.
