This festive season is sweeter with Singapore’s culinary artist and multi-award-winning pastry chef - Janice Wong. Her latest collection - Christmas with Janice Wong features an exciting array of edible creations, including cakes, cookies, box sets, and hampers, just in time for the season of sharing and gifting.

Are You Ready For An Upsized Christmas Wonderland?

With year-end school holiday just started, it only means Christmas is fast approaching. If you plan to be in Singapore during this Christmas period, a trip to the forthcoming Christmas Wonderland is going to delight you sweetly.

To upstage the previous editions, Singapore's biggest annual yuletide fair, in its fourth year, has been upsized by enlarging crowd favourites while introducing a wider variety of attractions from all over the world for the whole family to experience a bigger, brighter and more magical moment at Gardens by the Bay.

The Italian luminarie light sculpture has always been the crowd favorite at Christmas Wonderland since 2014 and this year will be better.

While the introduction of the first luminarie Christmas tree in Asia at 13 meters tall adds to the whole splendor, it is the centerpiece light sculpture at the heart of the fairground that is going to wow the crowds with its taller installation, standing at 22.5m tall or equivalent to 7-stories high, making it South East Asia's tallest ever Spalliera. Not only is the Spalliera going to be taller,  the Blizzard Time that it has been hosting will be increased from three to five sessions daily to cater to overwhelming demand!

Isn't it heartwarming to see young children having a good time as they play to their hearts’ content at  the yuletide fair? This year, the number of carnival rides will be doubled  – the most at Christmas Wonderland - with eight carnival attractions await little ones with usual favourites such as a carousel, ferris wheel, bumper cars, tea cups and a Christmas train within the fairground. The return of traditional carnival store games will allow the young Huneybees to pit their skills at any of the 11 stalls, including Ring Toss, Pyramid Smash, Lobster Pot and Milk Can Toss.

A wider variety of attractions, many for the first time in Singapore, have also been introduced at this year Christmas Wonderland.

Huneybees can look forward to skating under the stars for the very first time on a 240sqm outdoor synthetic skating rink , specially brought in from Switzerland, and framed by stunning luminarie light sculptures, providing the backdrop for one-of-a-kind Instagram-worthy pictures.

Another first is the asian debut of the highly acclaimed Circus Abyssinia from Ethiopia, which will be presenting "Ethiopian Dreams" with a mix of gravity-defying stunts, astounding skills and enchanting adventure that is surely going to wow the audience.

For food lovers, this year's yuletide fair has enhanced and expanded dining experience with the addition of SAVOUR: Christmas Wonderland. Curated by Savour Events – the team behind Singapore’s premiere gourmet food festival brand SAVOUR – this special edition will feature celebrity chefs from award-winning restaurants such as Shoukouwa (2 Michelin Stars), Saint Pierre (1 Michelin Star) and Monti at Fullerton Pavilion offering dishes starting from as low as S$6.

Admission to Christmas Wonderland starts from S$4, which starts on 1st December all the way to boxing day (26th December), operating from 4pm to 11pm daily, will provide access to a myriad of attractions across the 57,000sqm fairground.

Celebrating VivoCity 7th Anniversary

To kick start the festive season, VivoCity commemorated its 7th Anniversary yesterday evening with a spectacular fireworks show choreographed by Japan’s acclaimed Tamaya Kitahara Fireworks Co., Ltd. VivoCity’s Growing Christmas Tree - Another Year Older, Another Foot Taller

VivoCity’s gigantic Christmas Tree at the Sky Park, now standing at 107 feet tall is an annual centrepiece that has grown a foot every year since 2007, signifying VivoCity’s ever-growing joy and celebration of the festive season. In 2009, at 103 feet tall, this Christmas tree was the tallest in Singapore, as certified by The Singapore Book of Records. This year, the height of the tree is taller than ever and especially significant, as the 107-feet milestone coincides with VivoCity's 7th anniversary. At the foot of the tree standing-guard is a giant reindeer. This statuesque creature is mysteriously masked, reminiscent of the Venetian masquerade ball and alluding to this year’s Christmas theme, ‘A Whimsical Christmas at VivoCity’.

L’imagination is a 30-minute musical extravaganza that blends visual and physical acts, illumination, as well as dance and drama. The Magic of Lights at 313@Somerset

I was invited to the unveiling of the Christmas Light Up at 313@Somerset. This year 313@Somerset played with the idea of lights and hope to bring to shoppers an artful display of lights to create the first ever Christmas Light Show.

The magical use of ‘light art’ as a paint brush to create brilliant personalised Christmas cards, 313@somerset will dazzle its shoppers with the beauty and mastery of lights to bring added festive cheer.

Through the wonderful works of Charlie Lim - renowned Singapore photographer introduces his remarkable technique of light art into designing Christmas cards for shoppers at 313@somerset. This method of photography uses a single source of light and paints the subject in the dark while the camera captures the image. The effect is a visual treat that creates a work of art for each shopper who participates.

From 7 – 23 December, every Friday to Sunday, 12pm to 7pm, at Basement 2 (next to Din Tai Fung), the first 80 shoppers each day who spend a minimum of $150 will have an opportunity to get their photo taken. All CLUB313 members are guaranteed redemption.

We were serenaded by Key Elements that night and you can hear their wonderful acapella number in the video above.

And not only that, we were also treated to great food at Brotzeit!

The lovely organizers even got an artist to give each of us a personalized caricature drawing to bring home!

Roving Santa and Christmas Characters

Santa Clause, Santarinas and the Christmas characters are coming to town 313@Somerset on 7, 14, & 19 – 21 December at 6pm and 8pm and 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 & 23 December at 4pm, 6pm and 8pm!

Additionally, there will be a musical performance y the Kaze Flute Ensemble to take everyone through the melodic series of Christmas pieces performed on a flute. Catch them on 7, 14, & 19 – 21 December at 5.30pm and 7pm and 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 & 23 December at 5.30pm, 7pm and 8pm!

Recycled Ornaments Workshop

Create your own personalised ornaments for your home to spice up the festive season from now till 23 December, every Friday to Sunday at 2pm, 4pm and 6pm! Not only you can do your part for the environment by using recycled materials for making ornaments, you also can lend a helping hand to the visually handicapped this festive season! To participate, all shoppers simply need to make a donation of a minimum of $10 at Level B2. All proceeds go to the Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH). Pre-registration starts on the 5 December.

Draw it Forward Project 2012

Peter Draw, a caricature artist who earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records for drawing the world’s largest caricature taught some children to draw through workshops sponsored by Great Eastern. These children will then use their newly acquired skills to draw caricature for the public. To support this project, you can make a donation for the drawings on 13 – 15 & 20 – 22 December from 12pm to 8pm. All donations proceeds to fund programmes for the under-priviledged children supported by Community Chest.

My Christmas Wish List – Facebook

313@Somerset has launched a “My Christmas Wish List” facebook application for the social media savvy shoppers! From now till 20 December, shoppers may be granted their Christmas wish list by simply snapping a photo of items from three stores within 313 and submitting it to their facebook page here.

10 shortlisted wish lists will go through online public voting from 10 – 20 December and three participants with the highest-voted wish lists will each receive $500 worth of 313 shopping vouchers! In addition, five lucky voters will also receive $50 worth of 313 shopping vouchers each.
