Indulge in a Sweet Adventure as Museum of Ice Cream Launches the First Ever Official Guide for Desserts in Singapore

Yes sweeties, we are spicy most of the time but there's also a sweet side to us. Come experience Singapore with a sugar rush as Sweet Spots highlight the most delectable spots across the island. 

Sweet Spots is an exciting initiative brought about by Museum of Ice Cream (MOIC)'s relentless drive to spread and celebrate the universal and borderless joy of sweet treats, to foster everlasting connections between people, and for everyone to embrace their inner child in the enjoyment of delicious desserts. It is Singapore’s first-ever official guidebook for desserts as part of the Singapore Tourism Board’s SingapoReimagine Marketing Programme (SMP)!

Singapore has so much more to offer and by not only showcasing the very best spots for ice cream, the guidebook will also feature other sweet desserts like Chendol, Orh Nee, and even Ice Kacang! Highlighting the best spots for dessert across the island, Sweet Spots will feature everyone’s favourite traditional hawkers, cafes, patisseries, and even fine dining establishments. 

Upon the launch of the Sweet Spots site, you may nominate your favourite dessert spots for consideration at www.sweetspotsguide.com along with your favourite menu items. Once a comprehensive list has been compiled, a group of esteemed judges, selected from different fields across the culinary world, will then travel upon the rocky road of desserts to sample everyone’s favourite sweet treats. Nominations will begin on April 10 2023, with everyone invited to nominate and vote for desserts close to their heart and will end by May 10 2023.

With evaluations complete, selected establishments will be ranked in 3 tiers to receive the coveted SPOONS award, with 3 SPOONS awards given to 10 establishments, 2 SPOONS awards given to 15 establishments, and 1 SPOON award given to 25 establishments at the Sweet Spots Gala Party and Award Ceremony held in September! Selected establishments that receive the prized SPOONS award will then be invited to take over all of the treat stations at Museum of Ice Cream on October 14th to showcase their delightful delicacies to the public. 

With the mechanics of having crowd-sourced nominations driving the campaign, Sweet Spots will truly reflect the tastes of the local palates, bring attention to the best establishments in the heartlands of Singapore, and allow both tourists and locals alike to experience Singapore through the lens of Singapore’s delectable treats. 

To further incentivize nominations, 50 pairs of tickets to the Museum of Ice Cream will be given to lucky winners to have them join in the festivities and try the scrumptious creations of SPOONS awardees on National Desserts Day!

My Grandma's Favourite OWL Coffee Has A Cafe Now!!!

Since 1956, OWL Coffee began its Straits Asian Coffee legacy. Through the years, OWL has been with us and available in convenient sachets and packages. My grandma has been a huge fan of OWL Coffee, even till today, she insists in her morning cup of thick, strong Kopi O.

Yipee! And now OWL has a Café! We can get specially brewed OWL Coffee right at OWL Café @ The Star Vista. Just a stone's throw away from Buona Vista MRT, the new baby of OWL is so convenient and refreshing.

Stepping into the Cafe, reminds me of my days working at a coffee place. The strong aroma welcomed me in and seriously, I'm so addicted to it, I couldn't bear to leave! Trust me!

And if there's beautiful weather of even at nights under the beautiful moonlight, you can choose the alfresco dining area...

NO! 3-in-1 coffee is not served here even though you can purchase them off the rack. Every cup of coffee is freshly brewed and they are flavours you can't find in their packaged coffee.

Interesting must try coffees would be the Gula Melaka Kopi (sweet!) as well as the rare, 100% authentic Kopi Luwak (Civet Coffee served with Coffee Caviar). Take your time to savour the coffees!

My Kopi Luwak came specially served in a tray and glass dome. Slowly open up and breath deeply for the strong aroma of the coffee. It's really like the cartoons where the smoke comes out drawing you close...

Coffee Caviar! I would say, don't start pouring everything into the coffee. Have a sip and the scoop a couple to go with it. That's how you can taste the wonderful coffee blend!

Hae Chor Salad with Oriental Dressing

Not just coffee, delicious food is also served here. If you are looking for an affordable place to chill out with your friends or looking for something special to eat, come find it all at OWL Café! The dishes are specially thought out by the chef and they all have the  

Spaghetti with Laksa Sauce

I would recommend starting off your meal with a salad and the interesting thing here is that the salad is served with Hae Chor (Prawn Roll). The portion is pretty big and filling, so be sure to share it!

 Assam Mango Chicken with Nasi Kuning

Assam Chicken Wings  

Don't miss out trying the high recommended Assam Chicken Wings or Assam Mango Chicken with Nasi Kuning too! They are slightly spicy dishes, but I'll say the burning's worth it! The taste is so authentic and you won't be able to find it elsewhere.

Have a cup of Calamansi Freeze or Soursop Freeze to "cool down".

If you are not too hungry or just looking for some bites during tea time, you can have the Otak-Otak (Spicy Fish Cake) Toast or Roti Bakar Assam Nanas (Tamarind Sauce Topped With Ham & Pineapple Slices).

What's amazing is that this is not your usual bread toast, no thick toast etc. It's actually Ciabatta Bread! My favourite Italian bread that's soft and fluffy on the inside and there's a thin layer of flour on the outside. The slight spiciness of the ingredients bring out the flavour and they both enhance each other's taste.

DESSERT Time!!!

Glory Hitam and Durian Pengat

Choose from the smooth silky beancurd or the fusion dessert that we are familiar with - Glory Hitam (Cold Pulau Hitam), Chendol (With Jackfruit Slices) or the orgasmic Durian Pengat! My high recommendation goes to the Durian Pengat, but be sure to share it and check the availability of the desserts as they run out pretty fast!

[Travelogue] Celebrating my birthday in Johor Bahru with friends

Hubby and I.

I kickstarted my birthday celebration with a couple of friends on a trip to Johor Bahru. Just an hour ride across the sea, we are set on Malaysia's ground. We had been having 'DIVA' cravings to sing our hearts out at the KTV and so they suggested going into JB for a cheaper alternative.

The whole time, we stuck to staying within City Square. It's a super duper huge shopping mall, but right now, most of it is undergoing renovation. Selected shops and food stalls are still open, as well as the cinema and KTV (Neway).

But first, we had to fill our hungry stomachs. We headed to Pappa Rich, which was unavailable in Singapore.

Let's introduce the dishes.We had Curry Chicken, Nasi Padang, Naan, etc. They were pretty spicy, but we loved it. Pappa Rich offers Malaysian dishes in the comfort of a restaurant, at affordable prices and they were pretty tasty!

The weather was warm and we had to share a dessert bowl of Chendol!

Afterwhich, it was shopping time and I bought some stuffs, will introduce them on my Beauty Blog - Colour Huney. So stay tuned....

Yippeee! KTV Time! Neway was the KTV company and there was never ending rooms in there. Service was good and the room was spacious, compared to those we get in Singapore. The mics had special sanitized covers for hygiene purposes. And not only that! At special timings, there is a buffet to dine and sing, or even opt for the usual package where you get drinks and selected amount of food!

Dang, I'm hungry as I blog!!!

Just a short introduction on what to do when you have the time to head into Johor Bahru. of course there's more to explore and I will definitely blog about it when I do!

Special shout out to my hubby and friends for the B'dae Celebration! I had a great time and let's do it again!
