Taiwan's Biggest Music Festival - 2013 Spring Wave Singapore Music Festival is coming!

Yesterday, I had the honour to attend the 2013 Spring Wave Singapore Music Festival (2013 春浪音乐节) Press Conference. Spring Wave is annual event that has been held at the southern part of Taiwan, Kenting for the past 7 years. Each year the event attracted no less than 20000 concert goers with performances by the biggest names in the Mandopop industry, including Mayday (五月天), Eason Chen (陳奕迅) and our homegrown singer -  JJ Lin (林俊杰). 

2013 Spring Wave Singapore Music Festival will be held on 4 May 2013 at The Meadow @ Gardens By The Bay.

Created by Friendly Dog Entertainment in honour of the celebration of peace, love and music during spring time, the spring Wave Music Festival steps out of Taiwan for the first time and have chosen Singapore to be the first overseas stop.

Tiger Beer Presents Spring Wave Singapore 2013 – Festival Line-up
The festival will kick-off with the Mandopop segment from 3pm to 10pm. The second segment of the festival will see The Meadow @ Gardens by the Bay transformed into a massive outdoor party venue for an Electronic Dance Music Segment known as Spring Wave Dance. From 11pm to 4am, widely-travelled and legendary German DJs ATB and Markus Schulz as well as established trance musician Jochen Miller from Holland will hit the decks to fuel the party with electronic bliss.

For the Singapore stop, we will have Indie queen Cheer Chen (陈绮贞) , rocker Wu Bai (伍佰), popster Jam Hsiao (萧敬腾), smoky-voiced Joanna Wang (王若琳), pop-rocker Zhang Zhen Yue/A-Yue (张震岳) and homegrown songbird Olivia Ong (王俪婷). 

And for the press conference, Zhang Zhen Yue/A-Yue (张震岳) and Joanna Wang (王若琳) made an appearance to share some fun facts and get "bombed" by the media. Watch the videos for the whole interview.

The unique element that differentiates Spring Wave from other outdoor concert is... Every artist gets to perform one full hour with their own band flown in from Taiwan. In another words, you only need to pay for one ticket to get access to 7 hours of LIVE mini concerts! That’s definitely a steal!

Global Chinese Music Awards 2012 (第十二屆全球華語歌曲排行榜頒獎典禮)

Last Thursday, I was at the 12th Global Chinese Music Awards 2012 <<第十二屆全球華語歌曲排行榜頒獎典禮>>. The event was held at Singapore Indoor Stadium, yet weirdly, the Red Carpet moment was at Marina Bay Sands. Here's a video of the Red Carpet moment...

  The annual awards show was a result of the collaboration between 7 Chinese music radio stations - Radio Beijing, Radio Guangdong, Radio Television Hong Kong, Shanghai Pop 101, Taiwan POP FM91.7, Malaysia Star RFM988 and Singapore's YES93.3FM. The Radio DJs from the respective countries were also the host of the grand event. This is the second time the GCMA is being held in Singapore since its inception in 2000.

  

The GCMA 2012 guest list was long and distinguished...

From Hong Kong, there is Eason Chan 陳奕迅, Joey Yung 容祖兒, TWINS, Mr. and Fiona Sit 薛凱琪 .

From Taiwan, there is Show Luo 羅志祥, Rainie Yang 楊丞琳, Aska Yang 楊宗緯, Da Mouth 大嘴巴 and Kimberly Chen 陈芳语.

From China,  Shane Cao 曹軒賓, Wanting Qu  曲婉婷 , Yisa Yu 郁可唯, Della Ding Dang 丁当 and Dong Shan Shao Ye 東山少爺 .

And also Singapore's own superstars Kit Chan 陈洁仪, Tanya Chua 蔡健雅, JJ Lin 林俊傑, Olivia Ong 王俪婷 and A-Do 阿杜 appeared along with Malaysia's Wu Jia Hui 伍家輝.

A total of 29 awards were given out at this year's GCMA. Taiwan singer Show Luo and Hong Kong's Joey Yung were named Most Popular Male Artiste and Most Popular Female Artiste respectively at the Global Chinese Music Awards (GCMA) 2012.

Hong Kong singer Eason Chan and Singapore's Tanya Chua also won big at the GCMA 2012 bagging the Best Male Artiste Award and Best Female Artiste Award respectively.

Other notable winners include JJ Lin and Rainie Yang, who won the Most Talented Artiste Awards; May Day, Sodagreen and Mr., who won the Most Popular Band Awards.

Kit Chan also received the Outstanding Achievement Award, in recognition for her achievement for the many years. Her voice was super unique and it's great that I got to hear it live and relive my childhood memories... 

Every distiguished guest performed their best song with special performances like Tanya Chua did a special tribute to Feng Fei Fei and JJ Lin did a medley of his songs and the songs he wrote for other singers and the night concluded with a song by the eccentric Eason Chan.

 Joey Yung 容祖兒 stood out with the outrageously huge pink tulle cape, but it revealed little light bulbs when she performed. She really deserved the title of  最受歡迎女歌手.

Ok, I'm gona be bias here. I have to blast photos of my idol -  Show Luo 羅志祥. He was the only one who sang and danced that night. I really couldn't stop screaming!!! He performed songs from his latest album - 有我在 and 全城热爱. 

"I'm very happy and moved. Because there are so few artistes who both sing and dance, winning this award makes me feel like I have struck a blow for them. They have to dance and sing at the same time, yet they must hide their discomfort, they also have to have an excellent grasp of visual aesthetics. I hope everyone can pay more attention to the efforts of these artistes and give them more applause." --- Show Luo 羅志祥 (From XinMSN).
