Taiwan Mandopop Heats Up Singapore @ Spring Wave 2014 (春浪音乐节 2014)

| |
Hi Huneybees,

Taiwan was brought to Singapore with this year's Spring Wave Music Festival 2014 (春浪音乐节 2014). Not only were there the ever so popular Mandopop singers, all "shipped" to out Lion City to give us eargasms, there's even the popular food delights from their night market!

The annual outdoor music festival was organised by Friendly Dog Entertainment Co. Ltd. and presented by Tiger Beer with over six 'live' sessions by Taiwan's top Mandopop stars A-mei, Jam Hsiao, Della Ding Dang, Yao Yao and Bii.

Warming up the festival was Chriz Tong, Singapore’s representative to the inaugural Global Spring Wave Awards held in Kenting, Taiwan back in April, where over 200 bands from all over the world submitted their performance to the competition.

Aunty Roxy

After which, Auntie Roxy, winner of the First Global Spring Wave Award took to the stage, rocking their hearts out. It is the first time that they are performing outside of Taiwan and they performed 2 of their original creations - 'I Am Tired'& 'Nothing At All.

Boxing - a Taiwanese aboriginal rap-pop band came up next, before the otaku goddess - Yao Yao

瑤瑤 (Guo Shu Yao 郭書瑤) came out to melt their hearts of ours.

She belted out non-stop love songs  from Taylor Swift’s ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ to a Chinese cover of KARA’s ‘Honey’. She surprised with a tug of her fluffy skirt, revealing a pair of hot pants, showing off her lanky legs, coming close to her fans as she sat on the ledge of the stage, She then ended her performance with her hit song  ‘Ai De Bao Bao’, which I bet fans hoped she did gave out some. :D

The next round of performance was by Bii. This half Korean, half Taiwanese cutie was grabbing all the ladies attention as her introduced himself after a few songs, acknowledging  the fact that he’s a “new face” to everyone.  He then ended his performance with a rendition of Aerosmith's 'I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing'.

As the night falls and the ground gets more crowded, Della Ding Dang 丁当 brought the concert to a climax with her power house voice. Wearing a cute mint green romper suit , she kickstarted her performance with her signature song -  ‘Wo Shi Yi Zhi Xiao Xiao Niao’. She then did a couple of sexy numbers like ‘Ye Mao’ and Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’.

She then did a surprise segment of having cheerleaders from Nanyang Polytechnic joining her on stage with cheer routines and two-and-a-half-high stunts.  She then performed the perfect Spring dance song - ‘Wo Ai Xia Tian’ to end her set, bringing the crowd to a new high in anticipation for the next singer.

‘Fu Er Mo Si’ plays on the concert grounds and everyone jumped onto their feet and Jam Hsiao 蕭敬騰 enters with his electric blue jacket that is of reminiscent of his idol - late Michael Jackson. He continued pushing his vocals to the limit with ‘Yuan Liang Wo’, as fans kept on cheering him on and he looked so animated with all his stunts!

Of course not forgetting his KTV must-sing song - Xin Bu Liao Qing’ and then rocking out with ‘Black and White’ and ‘Wang Fei’, everyone was singing along as this rocker belted his high notes. That's why I like him so much, he performs amazingly LIVE!

As the stage lit up with the drum beats, everyone sprang to their feet, wildly cheering, to welcome the Mandopop diva - A-Mei.

Dressed in tattooed leggings and an oversized black t-shirt, A-Mei 張惠妹 performed a selection of old tunes from her earlier albums, as fans sung along as though the national anthem! She also announced the news of an upcoming album release and ended the concert with ‘San Tian San Ye’. It wasn't as high a performance as we expected, and I was waiting for Jam Hsiao and A-Mei to perform their duet 'Yi Yan Shun Jian'. *sad*

All performing artistes also donated their prized personal possessions to a charity auction in support of Spring Wave Singapore's annual social responsibility initiatives. Proceeds were donated to charities for underprivileged children, namely Singapore's Student Advisory Centre and Hong Kong's Little Yellow Flower Education Foundation.
Can't wait for Spring Wave to be back again next year!

Hi Huneybees,

Yesterday, I had the honour to attend the 2013 Spring Wave Singapore Music Festival (2013 春浪音乐节) Press Conference. Spring Wave is annual event that has been held at the southern part of Taiwan, Kenting for the past 7 years. Each year the event attracted no less than 20000 concert goers with performances by the biggest names in the Mandopop industry, including Mayday (五月天), Eason Chen (陳奕迅) and our homegrown singer -  JJ Lin (林俊杰)

2013 Spring Wave Singapore Music Festival will be held on 4 May 2013 at The Meadow @ Gardens By The Bay.

Created by Friendly Dog Entertainment in honour of the celebration of peace, love and music during spring time, the spring Wave Music Festival steps out of Taiwan for the first time and have chosen Singapore to be the first overseas stop.

"We are excited to bring one of the most anticipated outdoor music festivals in Taiwan to Singapore for the very first time. This would not have been possible without the support of our presented, Tiger Beer. Besides performances by renowned Taiwan artistes, our audience at Tiger Beer presents Spring Wave Singapore 2013 will also have the chance to party with leading DJs late into the night." --- Mr Shen Guang Yuan, Chairman of Friendly Dog Entertainment Pte Ltd.

From 11pm to 4am, widely-travelled and legendary German DJs ATB and Markus Schulz as well as established trance musician Jochen Miller from Holland will hit the decks to fuel the party with electronic bliss.

Left to Right: Mr Shen Guang Yuan (Chairman of Friendly Dog Entertainment Pte Ltd), Mr Chim Kang Chua (Editor of Lianhe Wanbao) and Mr Raymond Koh (Marketing Manager at Asia Pacific Breweries) toast to the success of 2013 Spring Wave Singapore

For the Singapore stop, we will have Indie queen Cheer Chen (陈绮贞) , rocker Wu Bai (伍佰), popster Jam Hsiao (萧敬腾), smoky-voiced Joanna Wang (王若琳), pop-rocker Zhang Zhen Yue/A-Yue (张震岳) and homegrown songbird Olivia Ong (王俪婷).

And for the press conference, Zhang Zhen Yue/A-Yue (张震岳) and Joanna Wang (王若琳) made an appearance to share some fun facts and get "bombed" by the media. Watch the videos for the whole interview.

The unique element that differentiates Spring Wave from other outdoor concert is... Every artist gets to perform one full hour with their own band flown in from Taiwan. In another words, you only need to pay for one ticket to get access to 7 hours of LIVE mini concerts! That’s definitely a steal!

So come on down to Gardens by the Bay on 4th May for more screams!!!
