As Singapore becomes more COVID-resilient and the easing of measures, events are coming back and one to look forward to is the annual Singapore Comic Con (SGCC). There's a sneak peek at what's to come this weekend (8 and 9 October 2022) at City Square Mall, where you can get to see some of the exclusive merch, meet and greet local artists as well as cosplayers from Impact Fantasy. Meet P4L

Kickstart the day by saying hello to the Official Mascot of SGCC who will be making its appearance for the first time ever! Meet P4L* ("pop culture 4 Life!") uniquely designed by Mighty Jaxx up close and personal, all decked out in its adorable robo-onesie and very own homemade tricked-out robo helmet. An avid lover of all things fun and trendy, P4L will be your guide for the entire day at City Square Mall.

FightSaber Singapore & Kranak Clan

Feel the force with FightSaber, an international Star Wars costuming organization bonded by a common appreciation for the movies, costuming, and a love for the performing arts, and be wowed by the Kranak Clan - Mando Mercs Singapore. The Jedis and Mandalorians promise to bring a spectacular representation of the all-time fan favourite Star Wars movies. Meet regional cosplayers from Impact Fantasy - Diane Sabandeja & Lia Bear

She commented that Impact Fantasy has a vision that she also believes in, that all cosplayers, fans, and like-minded people are able to create a cosplay world that belongs to them.

Lia Bear is a cosplayer from the Philippines, she has been cosplaying for the past 8 years. Cosplaying has pushed her to become a better version of herself, like her favourite anime characters. This hobby has made her feel accepted by people, as she didn’t have many friends when growing up. Through cosplay, she was able to gain confidence and try things outside her comfort zone. It has been a scary ride, but it has made her feel the most alive.

Artist Alley Creators

Take a walk through the Artist Alley which showcases 14 independent local artists who will have original artwork collectibles on display for purchase. Grab the chance to have a chat with creators like BunnyAndYarn, Bobblejot, and Monster Little about their adorable heartwarming digital comic characters and crochet work. My Little Pony Themed Cafe in Kumoya Orchard Central

My little pony, my little pony

Friendship is magic

It was so much fun spending a lovely afternoon with my hubby and "friends". Kumoya Cafe at Orchard Central has transformed into Equestria and brought our favorite My Little Pony friends to town!

Walking into the magical cafe space immediately got me into the mood and I couldn't help going round, snapping pictures with Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Applejack and Rarity. Each table was themed with each pony and we were given the Applejack one, with a Twilight Sparkle (of course, my favorite pony!) soft toy to accompany us. Let's grab some pics before we dine in then...

The whole cafe was filled with Ponyville vibes, if only I could bring all of them back!

There's also a special private room for bigger groups with pre-arrangements, due to hygiene measurements, we were not allowed to go in for photos, so here's just pictures from "outside". I'll definitely be back with more friends, for the room. Hehehehehe...

Ok, time to dine in!

Each dish is beautifully themed with the pony's in mind and we picked a few magical ones to fill ur tummies in.

For starters, we had the Mini Tater Tots & Sweet Mochi Balls. 

It's served with a super adorable Twilight Sparkle box that had popped up wings on the side. These little bites make very good snacks with mayonnaise and we  finished it in a blink of the eye. We loved the Mochi Balls especially, chewy with a touch of sweetness, too bad there was just 4 of them in each serving... 

For mains, we had The Dashing Magical Rainbow Dash Burger and Say "Cheese!" We Run The World Tempura Fish & Chips. How can we miss out on a "Flying Burger" right?! 

You can choose the Impossible Plant Based Patty or opt for Chicken Katsu or Ebi Patty. We had the Chicken Katsu version and it was crispy on the outside, yet juicy on the inside, paired with the egg, lettuce and cheese, squeezed between the blue Mantou buns, we were ready to take flight.

The Fish and Chips set was pretty normal, it tasted decent and we loved that the batter for the fish was not too thick and it was a pretty big helping. 

We ended the meal with a couple of magical potions -  Lychee Yuzu Galaxy Soda and Twilight Sparkle Watermelon Soda. Lychee Yuzu comes served in a bowl with dry ice and the potion is ready when hot water is added in, so you can enjoy this sweet fruity soda in a magical smoke. *There's Butterfly Pea Flower inside the drink, so take note before having it*.

 

Twilight Sparkle Watermelon Soda sees Twilight flying above a candy floss cloud as it gets served onto our table. Pour in the soda and see the cloud melt into the drink. The drink makes a lovely end to our meal, the sweetness left us feeling all magical and wanting to go back again soon for seconds...

According to Kumoya, their menu has no pork, lard, and alcohol, but it is not halal-certified.

There is also a dining time limit of 90 minutes. 

The My Little Pony-themed cafe will be around for a limited time only.

Vote For The ‘Most Impressive Roller Coaster’ Projects & Fuel Your School With STEM @ Central Singapore Programme

Mr Hri Kumar, Vice-Chairman for Central Singapore CDC, Mr John Sam, Marketing Support Manager, Chevron Singapore Pte Ltd, volunteers from Raffles Girls’ School, Science and Mathematics Department, trainers are from Duck Learning and participating students celebrating the finale of the inaugural Fuel Your School – STEM @ Central Singapore programme.

Back on 22nd June 2015, Central Singapore CDC and Caltex collaborated to launch a new enrichment programme - Fuel Your School that is targeted to enhance the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) capabilities and skills of lower secondary students in Singapore as well as to encourage students to major in STEM-related fields in future.

From 22 to 25 June 2015, 320 students from 13 secondary schools in the Central Singapore District had attended this inaugural 1-day camp, including learning journeys and hands-on activities to engage them through practical activities and bridge textbook classroom knowledge with real-world application hands on.

Over the last four days, students embarked on a learning journey to Universal Studios Singapore (USS), where they were introduced to the mechanics and physics behind the construction of a theme park ride and through guided tours and briefings conducted by trained facilitators at USS, the students gained an understanding of STEM principles - from the forces of flight and Newton’s Laws, to technological design and symmetry. They also learned about problem- solving, modelling, and measurement tools throughout the course of the workshops.

Under the mentorship of teacher volunteers from the Raffles Girls’ School’s Science and Mathematics Department and certified trainers from Duck Learning Company, the students were further divided into groups of five and given the chance to design and build their own roller coaster using the Pitsco-exclusive Roller Coaster Track kit. The programme marked the first time that the kit has been used in an educational programme for youths.

The whole experience was summed up with a friendly social media competition, where students will upload a video of their roller-coaster design online to showcase their learning to teachers, friends and family.

From 29 June to 3 July 2015, members of the public may view the projects via the CDC’s YouTube channel, and vote for the ‘Most Impressive Roller Coaster’ projects. Winners will stand to win $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 for the first, second and third prizes respectively. In addition, photos of the projects will also be posted on Facebook for the public to vote. The top 10 ‘Most Popular Roller Coaster’ projects will also win $500 each. All winnings will go towards the Mathematics and Science Departments of the respective schools, to continue supporting the development of STEM programmes for its students.

Both Central Singapore CDC and Caltex hope to establish a springboard for the Fuel Your School – STEM @ Central Singapore programme to be organised annually, and continue to support Singapore’s focus on education as the key to social mobility. To support this, STEM educational kits and toys will be available for purchase at all Caltex StarMarts island wide, till 31 July 2015, to continue raising awareness on STEM-related topics throughout Singapore. Caltex customers can pick up these learning tools for their children and use their Thanks! points to offset $1 with every 40 Thanks! points during purchase. Caltex Singapore is also reaching out to the community and the public to garner support for its Fuel Your School programmes. From 22 June to 5 July 2015, for every fuel purchase made with the Caltex Thanks! Card at Caltex stations in Singapore, Caltex will donate $1 to fund and run the 2015 Fuel Your School programmes, up to a maximum of S$100,000 for this year’s programme.
