We Got Super Soakin' Wet At Hong Kong Disneyland

Hi Huneybees,

Here is the promised post about the GREAT FUN I have had at "Carnivale of Stars" at Hong Kong Disneyland following my previous post about my planned trip there recently! 

With so much to share with my Huneybees, I have decided to spend some time to create a video (and hence the delay of this post...) that best described my experience instead. In this video, I will share some pre-trip tips, the top (THREE) 3  MUST-SEE highlights that you shouldn't miss as well as the things you should try and buy while you were there!

I hope my Huneybees will like this video that I have created. To complete the magic summer "Carnivale of Stars" experience, I would suggest that you stay in one of the three Hong Kong Disneyland hotels next to the theme park so that you could travel there earlier to beat the queues for the popular rides or the meet-and-greet sessions. It is the same reason why you should avoid the peak hour traffic when you take MTR back to the airport.

With so many cheap flight promotions, from budget airlines like Scoot to full-fledged service carriers like Cathay Pacific, over this summer period, I would highly recommend Huneybees to take some time off next two weekends to visit the "Carnivale of Stars" at Hong Kong Disneyland before it ends on 2nd September 2018.

Looking Forward To A Brand-New Fun This Summer At Hong Kong Disneyland Resort!

Hi Huneybees,

If you are as passionate as yours truly Queen Bee and me about the world of Disney cartoons and its characters, you must check out the “Carnivale of Stars” at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL), happening from 21st June through 2nd September 2018!

With air tickets purchased and luggage packed, we are so looking forward to chill out with Moana, Mickey and other Disney friends while experiencing a rich line-up of excitement day and night, like the all-new atmosphere stage show “Moana: A Homecoming Celebration,” the “We Love Mickey!” Projection Show, and a new African-style Karibuni Marketplace.

On top of our to-do list shall be the live “Moana: A Homecoming Celebration” atmosphere stage show, which has just been launched and is the first attraction of the resort’s current multi-year expansion. The show will include an entirely new exotic outdoor venue, Jungle Junction, in Adventureland, the storytelling of Moana's oceanic voyages, as well as an opportunity to meet-and-greets with Moana in person!

With the debut of Karibuni Marketplace, we are hoping to immerse ourselves in the lively colors, sights and sounds of Africa, enjoy special snacks and meet with beloved Disney characters including Carl and Russell from Up, Judy and Nick from Zootopia, King Louie and Baloo from The Jungle Book, Rafiki and Timon from The Lion King, Princess Jasmine and Genie from Aladdin and Lilo and Stitch!

The cute Cookie is the latest additional to Duffy and Friends at HongKong Disneyland Resort!

Not forgetting the all-new “We Love Mickey!” Projection Show where Minnie Mouse and her pals are inviting Huneybees to a surprise party for Mickey Mouse as part of Disney’s all-new “We Love Mickey!” Projection Show each evening.

Other key highlights at the Carnivale of Stars include the first-ever “Pixar Water Play Street Party!” and meet The Incredibles! where Huneybees can join Mr. and Mrs. Incredible from The Incredibles; Woody, Buzz Lightyear and their pals from Toy Story, along with other Disney∙Pixar stars in this water soaking celebration.

With so many new and exciting fun happening this summer at HKDL, there is no better way to complete the magical Disney experience than to stay in one of the three hotels in the resort, especially with new hotel services and exclusive hotel offers targeting Singaporean visitors.

One such new hotel services that HKDL has introduced, since late April this year, is the all-new Express Online Check-in service that will allow guests to complete online check-in within 7 days prior to their arrival day, making it more convenience for guests to plan for their magical journey.

[Movie Review] Pixar's BRAVE - The Bravery of a Scotland Princess

Pixar's BRAVE opened in Singapore cinemas on 8th August and I had the honours of catching it weeks before it's officially opened to public thanks to Nuffnang and Disney.

The Story - Merida (voice of Kelly MacDonald) is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.

Directed by Mark Andrews (The Incredibles, Ratatouille, John Carter) and Brenda Chapman (The Lion King, Prince of Egypt), and produced by Katherine Sarafian (Lifted, The Incredibles).

"A grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humor, “Brave” uncovers a new tale in the mysterious Highlands of Scotland where the impetuous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) defies an age-old custom and inadvertently unleashes chaos, forcing her to discover the meaning of true bravery before it’s too late.”

It is really rare to see an animation so strong on Scottish traditions and so educational. Being in the cinema for that couple of hours was as though I had travelled back in time to ancient Scotland. Moreover, the tour we had before the movie was fun and made me wana run back to my school's military band to play on that flute and piccolo....

During festivities, the whole clan gathers to play games, play on bagpipes and of course gorge on great food. The men wore kilts, that are tartan printed "skirts". They wore that even to war! The pouch on the front, not only acts as a pocket, but also as a protection for the private areas....

The bagpipe is an instrument that plays pretty loud and high octave notes. Air has to be "pumped" into the bag and constant fingering and releasing of air from the bagpipe creates the great music. It works pretty much like a clarinet with a vibrating reed to produce sound. But note, it's a pretty heavy instrument....

Games like Tug-Of-War, arrow shooting, hunting, etc, are common during the festive and the whole village of people are as happy and excited as we were that day. More of this scene can be found in the movie.

 

I used my M.A.C. Tartan printed blusher that day to get in the mood and of course, got myself a kilt (borrowed lah).

Arrow shooting can't be done there, imagine how dangerous it can be. But then again technology is here to save the day!

Of course, me and hubby turned red heads to enter the photo booth for this great moment...

With great friends, time passes super fast and it was time for us to catch the movie.

My take on the movie:

Pixar's animation has always been a breakthrough and when I saw the trailers in the cinemas with Merida's soft, red, curly hair, I was already sold. Being an animator myself, details are what catches my attention. 

Eversince "Once Upon A Time", Disney princesses have had a rough time with the women who run their lives, usually a stepmother. However, one big difference in this movie: the woman who makes the heroine’s life miserable is not her stepmother but her own mom.

Let the wisps lead you there...

This time, together with a female input - Brenda Chapman (Director), not only was the story a huge twist in the middle, the creative tug-of-war between a male and a female director was as though they were doing a Tango in the movie.Not only were there brawny highlands humor - fighting, carousing, spit takes, there was also the primal bonding of a mother and daughter, that touched alot of our hearts and I was caught tearing up in a few scenes.

Moral of the story? Someone we think is a beast may love us to pieces, that teen rebellion can have dreadful consequences and that, sometimes, even a Scots mother can have a Brave heart. 

It's a movie suitable for everyone in the family and trust me, after the movie, you will learn to treasure your mum's nagging even more...

I give the movie 4.5 popcorns out of 5!

The Heroine of My Life - Teaser to Disney • Pixar’s BRAVE

Hi Huneybees,

I am so excited for the upcoming movie by Disney • Pixar -  BRAVE! It's such a first in animation to talk about the Scottish and their traditions and cultures. The female lead character, Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald), with her long curly orange hair, reminds a ton of the heroine in my life. 

This was taken 2 years back. I hardly see her....

She's non-other than my elder sister! We had our differences, but we had tons of fun times too! My sister is my very own heroine and I look up to her. Since young, she's been independent and when she went overseas to further her studies, I totally admired her bravery. Without anyone, she spread her wings in Australia doing her Bachelor and Masters degrees. Over a span of 5 years, with my parents visiting her just twice, she passed with flying colours and I could never imagine myself overseas with no family!

Her curly hair is super similar to Merida and that's why she's always spotting short hair styles to tame to the curls. Everyone says we look alike but in character wise, she's much stronger than me. That's why everytime I had problems I always consult her and look to her for solutions. From the trouble I had from my job, even till my wedding day, she's been there helping me and making my life easy, so that I can be the "pampered princess" at home. Hehehee....

Now, she owns her own production company in Beijing, China, living there all alone and there again her bravery for being in a foreign country and making a living out there. She's very successful there and I'm really happy for her. Jia you Sis!
