Try Inaniwa Udon At Kiyoshi Japanese Restaurant

Hi Huneybees,

You've been working hard and it's time to treat yourself to a good meal this weekend. If Japanese cuisine is what you are craving, here's a recommendation.

Located in the heart of the CBD area, along Amoy Street, is the Kiyoshi Japanese Restaurant. It is a  relatively new (launched in April 2020) family-style restaurant specializing in Inaniwa Udon, yakitori, sushi, and affordable bento sets.

Keeping true to its name - Kiyoshi 清 meaning "pure" in Japanese, the restaurant is a refreshing take as you step into its brightly lit interior. One feels homely and comfortable to dine in, with a few Instagram worthy spots for your wefies while waiting for your food to be served. The restaurant has taken all the safety precautions from Covid, so you can dine in peace...

There's even a LIVE sushi bar for you to see the chef in action.

Hungry already? Let's start with some Yakitori.

We had Asparagus wrapped with pork, chicken, pork balls as well as beef. I liked that the meat is lightly marinated, not overpowered with teriyaki sauce, so you can still taste the light freshness of the meat with a little smokey touch.

The restaurant specializes in Inaniwa udon, a type of udon made in the Inaniwa area of Inakawa machi, Akita prefecture. This cream-colored udon is hand-stretched and is slightly thinner than regular udon, yet thicker than sōmen, or hiyamugi noodles. The most important part of the making process is the repeated hand-kneading technique which helps it to achieve its thin, smooth, and delicate, melt-in-your-mouth texture.

The restaurant serves many different styles of udon dishes - Kiyoshi Combination Udon (comprising three kinds of Japanese cold noodles including Ikura Salmon Udon, Tempura Udon, and Nebaneba Udon), Aburi Salmon Salad Udon, Tempura Oroshi Udon, Tem Chirashi Udon, Beef Onsen Udon, Prawn Udon, etc.

For me, I think the TEM Chirashi Udon is a must-try dish. The thin udon is served cold with assorted tempura (scallop, mushroom, avocado, and capsicum), topped with a soft boiled egg and seaweed strips. It's not only a colorful visual presentation, it is also an interesting play on textures. You get the crispy bites from the tempura and then the soft silkiness of the udon mixed with the egg yolk, I've not had udon this way before and I think it makes a good summer dish.

Another dish that left an impression on us was the Kiyoshi Nabe Mono. We had it with the Dashi Soup Base, which complemented very well with the fresh vegetables and brought out the freshness of the meat - Hokkaido Pork. There's other meat selection and add ons too - A4 Wagyu, US Beef, Tsukune & Satsuma age.

What's special was when you are finished with the Nabe Mono, cooked rice and an egg are added into the soup. The waiter will help with this part, stirring in the pot slowly until the soup is absorbed and the dish becomes a pot of yummilicious congee.

You can add in the provided spring onion and seaweed strips to taste or opt for their specialty udon instead of rice, for a nice bowl of warm udon to end the dinner.

So, these are some of my recommended dishes for you to try out at Kiyoshi, of course, there are still the usual known Japanese dishes like sashimi, donburi, ramen and bento sets, waiting for you to enjoy. Cheers to a wonderful meal and have a great weekend! 😀

SBCD Korean Tofu House - Hearty Soontofu in CBD

Hi Huneybees,

I finally found Korea in Singapore! Remembering my last trip to Seoul, a local friend brought me to try Soontofu with hot stone pressured rice in a little alley that only locals know how to get to. *Trust me, I could only navigate with my friend leading, I can't find the stall again*

What was unforgettable was the scooping of rice off the hot stone into a bowl and porting tea into the leftover bits of rice in the hot stone for a later enjoyment.

Normally, we would be eating off the hot pot right? Well, this leftover porridge apparently helps in digestion and when you have finished your food, this pot of warm porridge keeps your tummy warm and cosy as you step into their winter cold weather.

I've been thinking of it ever since I'm back in Singapore and have not been able to find that taste, but thankfully I found it in the heart of Tanjong Pagar! For all Korean and spicy food lovers, this new dining experience in town will make you fall in love with Korean dishes all over again.

Unlike the usual Korean BBQ, Tteokbokki (or Ddeokbokki), Ginseng Chicken or Bibimbap that many of us are familiar with, this Korea restaurant - SBCD Korean Tofu House strides to be different among competition by bringing a unique experience to their diners.

Officially opened on 10 January 2017 in Tanjong Pagar Centre, the SBCD Korean Tofu House is the first restaurant that specializes in a variety of healthy and hearty Korean "soontofu” or soft tofu soup. Soontofu is a type of jjigae (Korean stew), consisting of freshly curdled tofu, meat or seafood, egg and gochujang served in a hot stone pot with white rice on the side.

All tofu at SBCD are hand-made every morning from curds of premium imported soybeans and with the final approval from the Chief-cum-Owner himself before it could be sold. Tofu is ideal for all ages as it is naturally gluten-free and low calorie, contains no cholesterol and is an excellent source of protein, iron, and calcium.

The soontofu at SBCD is unlike the tofu you can find in local dishes, their version is smooth, soft and custardy like bean curd, you can simply slurp it up. Couple that with kimchi and other (refillable) side dishes and the piping hot stone rice, this is my always go-to dish. I kept craving for it, that I went back several times, bringing my friends and family members along.

There was lots of seafoods in my Seafood Soontofu!

Every soontofu dish can be prepared in 4 different levels of spiciness for the broth – mild, medium, spicy and crazy hot, and they come in Original Beef or Pork, Assorted, Seafood, Oyster, Abalone, Intestines, Ham & Cheese, Vegetables and Sesame.

Do try the interesting combination of Ham & Cheese Soontofu

I found three baby Abalones in my Abalone Soontofu!!

An unique practice in SBCD Korean Tofu House that is uncommon in Singapore is the way the
rice is served with every meal. Each bowl of rice is served in a hot stone bowl, and scooped out into
a metal bowl. A think crust of scorched rice, called nurungji, will remain in the hot stone bowl and
corn tea will be added into the mixture and covered to retain the heat and to further cook the
leftover rice. After the meal, the diner can enjoy a bowl of nurungji bap, which is a rice porridge
dish that is not only nutritious, but also aids with digestion as it concludes the meal!

Do try Nurungji Bap if you ordered hot stone pressure rice with your meal!

And like a true blue Korean restaurant, you will be served side dishes (banchan) such as the kimchi, seaweed, pickled green chilies and spicy squid strips (MY FAVOURITE!), with every meal order and they are refillable.

Unlike most other Korean restaurants, one of the unique offerings of SBCD Korean Tofu House lies in the banchan that includes a whole fried croaker fish (one time only) prepared to tender perfection. It's sweet and slight crispiness goes very well with soup and rice, bringing a little firework to my tastebuds.

It's love-hate relationship for me with Spicy Grilled Chicken

One of the Chef Recommendation on the menu is the TTeok Galbi

For those who are craving for a serving of meat, you can also try the favourite Korean meat dishes such as L.A. Galbi, Spicy Grilled Chicken, and Spicy Baby Octopus. You can opt to order these delicacies as a main dish or to include them in the combo meal along with a soontofu soup of choice.

My favorite is L.A. Galbi!!!

My recommended dish has got to be the LA Galbi beef that's soft and tender, easy to chew with the sweet marination paired with hot piping rice, it was heaven for me. It is also not messy to eat the dish, as they are cut into bite size where you just have a little chunk of rib bone to cut off, totally no worries about looking too ugly if you are enjoying this with date or client.

The combination of the colour of the finishing with high ceiling and generous seating arrangement make a comfortable dining experience at SBCB Korean Tofu House

All in all, I'm infatuated SBCD Korean Tofu House, its warm and cosy ambiance is all ready to welcome the large office crowds for hearty lunch and dinner.

You could request for private room dining (subject to availability) if you wish for some privacy with your friends or family

As you may have noticed, SBCD Korean Tofu Stew definitely is not as affordable - average SGD35 per pax - as we all hope it is. Nevertheless, if you’re looking for variety, head straight for their combo sets which allows you to have the signature Soontofu stew and a main (although in smaller quantities) at lower prices.

[Tried & Tested] Pampering Session At Hadara Aesthetics Boutique

Hi Huneybees,

With Ms YY Low, Co-Owner of Hadara Aesthetics Boutique.
With my intensive flying around and work, I totally haven't had time to pamper myself. It was lovely to be invited by Hadara Aesthetics Boutique to try out the services that they provide. It was Shangri-La tucked in the midst of the bustling Central Business District.

This cosy, peaceful space against the backdrop of buzzing city life is the safe haven where men and women working in the CBD area, can pop by during lunchtime to come on over for fuss-free solutions for their face and body.

Stepping into the earthy toned and simplistic boutique, I was greeted by the uplifting Hadara signature scent that is a blend of organic aromatic oils specially concocted for Hadara in collaboration with a clinical herbalist. This signature scent creates a warm, welcoming ambience which uplifts & relaxes to dissolve stress and tension.

The secret lies in the exotic superberry - Sea Buckthorn
Hadara uses DERMAGOLD skincare for facial treatments, a home-grown skincare line created by the partners of Hadara who are medical doctors. DERMAGOLD is a meticulously curated cosmeceutical line with high performance active ingredients offering Asian women and men skincare solution systems that work synergistically to produce optimal and effective results. Created based on the brand philosophy of “Science, Beauty, Sensorial”DERMAGOLD products are highly effective, easy to use and lovely to the senses.

There's even a range for the men!

So, it's time to for my facial session. Now you see this dull face, but wait an hour later!

After a comfortable makeup removing session, I was indulged in the Korean D-light Therapy. It is a Dynamic Pulsed Light machine from Korea that uses SND technology. This SND technology combines intense pulsed light (IPL) and laser power source to provide more effective and safe light-based facial toning treatments. A cold, fragrant free gel was applied on my face, before the therapist - Amy used the IPL. She was careful and kept asking if I could take the warmth, it was totally comfortable and for a moment, I nearly dozed off.

The Korean D-Light not only photo rejuvenates the skin, but also helps to refine facial pores and stimulate collagen formation for firmer skin! It is also effective for people with melasma or acne-ridden skin. It's like PhotoShop for real!

The next part of the treatment is the (60 min) Hadara Power FacialThis is a facial treatment recommended for the time challenged executives or anyone who simply don't have too much time to spare. So, if you have an hour to spare during lunch break, in between picking up your kids, this would be the best recommendation.

The treatment includes cleansing, scrubbing, extraction, massage & lymphatic drainage, Cleopine air-spray penetration and mask.

What's special is the Cleopine technology. Using this little machine - '720 Cutie’ above, nano mist of Cleopine ampoules are air sprayed onto my face. The use of nano mist makes it easier for the ingredients to penetrate into the deep dermis. Cleopine is a  patented technology and it is FDA approved as a food substance (it can be sprayed safely into the mouth)!! Cleopine ampoules are especially suitable for sensitive skin and is penetrated into the skin using a special nano-technology air spray. Its cooling spray was refreshing and I felt totally rejuvenated and recharged after this treatment.

The Cleopine mist contains patented ingredients such as:
 • Pinemush-28-peptide consists of fermented Haesongi mushrooms, pine, herbs and ocher.
 • ConMi-28 minerals - ionised mineral enriched seawater
Cleopine mist helps in:
 • preventing the development of wrinkles/reducing the appearance of wrinkles
 • lifting the face
 • whitening
 • moisturising
 • clearing up acne
 • UV protection
 • reducing the appearance of neck wrinkles

I simply love how relaxing and soothing the treatment was. Within short 1 hour, I was recharged and all ready to take up the next challenge at work. The effects was immediate, as I find my skin glowing much more and more moisturised. This is definitely highly recommended for those stressful skin of yours!

Thank you Hadara for the lovely pamper!
