Hi Huneybees,

Come out this weekend and enjoy some fun arts and activities! From 19 to 27 August 2022, Singapore Night Festival (SNF) returns for its 13th edition after a 2 years hiatus. Themed Rebirth, there will be over 55 vibrant and eclectic experiences that will illuminate the lesser-known stories in the heart of Singapore’s multi-dimensional arts and heritage precinct.

This year’s festival will zoom in on the Bras Basah.Bugis (BBB) precinct’s heritage and stories with a greater focus on programs and artworks by local artists, including 6 projection mapping installations, 15 Night Lights installations, 5 performance locations, 5 experiential programs, and a Festival Village abuzz with an array of music performances, food, and beverage experiences.

Cathay Hotel: The Curse of the Missing Red Shoe by Vertical Submarine

The headliner this year would be an immersive theatre performance Cathay Hotel: The Curse of the
Missing Red Shoe by local art collective Vertical Submarine. Situated at the Cathay Green opposite the Cathay Building, the act opens with the story of a mysterious curse from more than 60 years ago that led to the separation of two lovers.

In this gripping anti-fairytale adventure, iconic Cathay characters such as Mat Bond, Pontianak, and Mambo Girl are brought back to life in a surreal version of old Singapore. With the freedom to author their own adventures. Expect an intimate encounter with the nostalgic cinematic landscape of Singapore’s post-war era as you revisit the origins of these bygone film characters, solving a mystery set in the grandeur of a large-scale recreation of the Cathay Hotel.

Falling In Love With Mellower Coffee's Sakura Fubuki

| |
Hi Huneybees, ;

While the general public are still praying for the return of Gong Cha and sharing mixed reviews on the new cheesy milk tea by LiHO, a specialty café from Shanghai has been making great stride into the local F&B scene with very interesting coffee.

Imagine standing under the cherry blossom trees, wind blowing against your skin, making the sakura petals fall from the trees as you catch a whiff of sakura fragrance whilst sipping on your warm cuppa of Joe. This is what Mellower Coffee Singapore wants you to feel with their newly launched signature drink - Sakura Fubuki.

Designed as an unique Japanese twist to the typical Americano, this drink contains Sakura blossom preserve that is actually Sakura petals imported from Japan (Osaka to be exact) in a glass of chilled syrup with ice and 2 shots of expresso in test tubes.

To truly enjoy this new signature from Mellower Coffee, I suggest you, my Huneybees to start by mixing half a shot/test tube of expresso into the glass of syrup with Sakura blossom preserve just to sample it before adding more.

Doing so will allow you to find your own preference by adjusting the degree of bitterness, whilst reducing the saltiness and sweetness from the petal preserves and the syrup collectively. Just like first love, magnificent yet short lived, beautiful yet with a snip of bitterness.

For me, my perfect balance was to add in 1.5 shots (or test tube) of espresso, leaving me with a slight floral aftertaste. Not only is the Sakura Fubuki a dance on your taste buds, it's also Instagram worthy.

Sakura Fubuki is the latest of many signatures that Mellower Coffee has had created, such as Ice Lemon Sparkling Yirgacheffe and Ice Rose Fresh Cream Lungo, just to name a few, by a team of world class barista at its disposal.

Since its establishment in 2011 in Shanghai China, Mellower Coffee has grown from strength to strength with 20 outlets in China, 2 outlets in Singapore - 77 Robinson Road #01-03 and 108 Middle Road - and 1 in Seoul Korea . More information - http://www.mellowercoffee.com.

With Mellower Coffee's bold attempt to communicate to the world about Chinese sentiments towards Coffee as well as constantly pushing the boundary of coffee with new signatures, I'm sure it is going to be a new force to reckoned with in this fast growing potential world of coffee.

Do try it and let me know your thoughts of this drink =)

ZoukOut 2013 Goes Cashless with EZ-Link

| |
Hi Huneybees,

ZoukOut 2013 will be a cashless affair this year. EZ-Link Pte Ltd, Singapore’s largest issuer of CEPAS-compliant cards, will implement the ez-link cashless payment system on-site, making it the first time in ZoukOut’s 13-year history that partygoers can simply “tap and go” for their drink purchases at the party, with an ez-link card.

The ZoukOut Limited Edition ez-link card
To commemorate the collaboration, EZ-Link and Zouk are also launching ZoukOut Limited Edition ez-link cards, exclusively designed by Zouk, as a ZoukOut 2013 memento. These limited edition design cards will be made available for purchase prior to the event from TransitLink Ticket Offices at City Hall, Orchard, Bugis, Changi Airport, Chinatown, Lavendar, Farrer Park, Woodlands and Somerset MRT stations.

The cards will be available from 25th November to 11th December, after that, they will be available at the event grounds on 13th and 14th December. The cost of this card is S$10.00 (excluding stored value). These limited edition cards are fully functional ez-link cards that can also be accepted at more than 30,000 ez-link card acceptance points across the island, for public transport, dining and shopping.

At the event, night revelers can tap any ez-link card*, easily identifiable by the ez-link logo positioned at the back of the card (refer to the image below), for drink purchases at the bar stations. They can also buy the ZoukOut Limited Edition ez-link cards at the on-site sales booths if they do not have one with them, and reload their cards at the top-up stations via credit card or cash. Prior to the event, partyers can also purchase or top-up ez-link cards from locations all over the island**.

Any ez-link card, recognisable by an ez-link logo at the back of the card, such as the above, will be accepted at ZoukOut 2013.

As Citibank is ZoukOut’s official credit card sponsor, ez-link cardholders who top up their ez-link card using a Citibank credit card will be entitled to one free alcoholic drink. This is valid for top up amounts of $50 and above; between 8pm to 9pm at the ZoukOut festival grounds on both festival nights. In addition, holders of the Citibank SMRT Platinum Visa Card, which also carries an ez-link function, can also tap their cards for payments at the venue.

This new ez-link payment system complements Citibank credit cards, ZoukOut’s official credit card and preferred payment choice; as it gives customers who do not own a credit card another payment mode.

ZoukOut 2013 will take place on the 13th and 14th of December 2013 at the Siloso Beach, Sentosa. For more information, go to www.zoukout.com
* Any ez-link card issued by EZ-Link Pte Ltd is accepted and can be topped up at ZoukOut 2013. Concession cards issued by the Land Transport Authority are also accepted but cannot be topped up at the event.
**For more information on ez-link card sales and top-up locations, please visit www.ezlink.com.sg

“The Singapore Night Festival has grown to become a festival well-loved not just by Singaporeans, but also visitors to our shores. Months before, people had been asking for more information about the festival so we are very excited to present our largest festival, both in scale and content to all our local and --- Ms Angelita Teo, Festival Director and Director of the National Museum of Singapore, National Heritage Board (NHB)
Celebrating the Cultural Vibrancy of Bras Basah.Bugis with the Community
This year’s festival brings together over 40 partners from the Bras Basah.Bugis community to showcase the buzz, energy and vibrancy of Singapore’s arts and heritage precinct. This is more than twice the number in 2012, and offers festival-goers with more options for entertainment, dining and even late-night shopping as they enjoy the varied offerings within the festival grounds.

Presenting an Array of World Class Performances
The Singapore Night Festival 2013 will feature new programmes alongside well-loved ones; international performances alongside local acts. Highlights include dancers scaling the façade of the National Museum of Singapore in a one-of-a-kind performance, illusionists attempting record-breaking stunts underwater and in mid-air, a larger-than-life 20-man music band, as well as the perennial favourite of art and light projections on buildings around the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct. All of this will transform Singapore’s arts and culture belt into a colourful and magical carnival ground.

Some of the festival highlights include:

At the National Museum of Singapore

Vertical Extraction by Compagnie Retouramont
Fri 23 & Sat 24 Aug 2013 | 8.15pm, 9.30pm & 10.45pm

National Museum of Singapore façade
Dancers embark on a vertical journey up the façade of the National Museum of Singapore and break into a rhythmic dance on bungee cords in this site-specific performance that explores the grand dame’s architecture and surrounding space. Light projections which amplify the dancers’ bodies, and a special video by acclaimed local artist and filmmaker Victric Thng, will complement Vertical Extraction to offer new perspectives on movement and the environment.

Pyramid of Void by Compagnie Retouramont
Fri 23 & Sat 24 Aug 2013 | 8.30pm, 9.45pm & 11pm
National Museum of Singapore façade
In this aerial dance performance, a pyramid structure made of ropes is suspended in mid-air, outlining the contours of a void, an abstract space invisible to the eye. With the ropes as their only form of support, dancers emonstrate their acrobatic creativity
and agility as they negotiate the minimalist set. Their movements form a dialogue with the pyramid, breathing life into the structure and giving shape to the spaces in-between.

5 Streams by Ibrahim Quraishi (BamBam Projects)
Fri 30 & Sat 31 Aug 2013 | 8.45pm, 9.45pm & 10.45pm
National Museum of Singapore, Main ground
Explosive sounds, vocals, intense dance sequences, video streaming, live percussion and base guitars are combined to create a hypnotic performance where dancers appear as installation: space transforms into living architectural symbols, video projection immersed in nature and the abstraction of geometry. Sound trembles
through the body before it’s heard and the audience is invited to wander and meditate in an interactive installation of a synthetic forest with each its own interactive sonic mix: this cross media performance / installation includes an extraordinary international team of artists.

Moongrazing: Live music & drawing jammin’ performances by OICSingapore
Fri 30 & Sat 31 Aug 2013 | 7.30pm, 8pm, 11pm & 11.30pm
National Museum of Singapore façade
Set to an original piece of music – Moongrazing is a surrealistic abstract animation that playfully explores the moon and its stories through the eyes of the illustrators from OICsingapore.
Throughout the two nights, the façade of the National Museum of Singapore will be transformed into a canvas for local artists to showcase their playful creativity. To add to the spontaneity of the moment, for twice each night, illustrators and indie musicians will jam together live. Each performance is unique as lines of music and drawing meet and improvisations happen on the most random note.

The Water Vault - Mega Stunt by ‘Magic Babe’ Ning
Fri 30 Aug 2013 | 10pm
National Museum of Singapore facade
Asia’s female Houdini and “the sexiest woman in magic” (Magicseen Magazine), ‘Magic Babe’ Ning will attempt a spectacular underwater escape from The Water Vault. Shackled with chains and locks around her wrists, waist and neck, Ning will be completely submerged in a steel vault filled fully with water, and locked and chained tightly on the outside. They will both be strapped up in two regulation strait jackets each and suspended upside down by their ankles, one person below the other, high up in the air from a single burning rope.
