Tiger Beer Collaborates With Victo Ngai and DJ Virman from Far East Movement For A Chinese New Year With A Twist

Hi Huneybees,

Chinese New Year is drawing near and it's time to celebrate with friends and families with a toast! What better way to do it than with our Singapore's highly acclaimed Tiger Beer?

Victo Ngai

Usher in the Year of the Horse by bringing to life “新春展鸿图”, symbolising “To Fresh Beginnings”. Tiger Beer commissioned award-winning illustrator, Victo Ngai, who was recently recognised by Forbes as one of the 30 under 30: The Best of Art and Style personalities for 2014, to produce two artworks for the festive season - featuring the iconic Tiger Beer pint bottle and can, each artwork includes different ethnicity and fashion styles, as well as eight hidden horses.

Other than that, there's also the #TigerTwist, a collaboration between Tiger Beer and DJ Virman from Far East Movement.

DJ Virman from Far East Movement.
To put an entertaining twist on the traditions of Chinese New Year, Tiger Beer has collaborated with DJ Virman from internationally acclaimed hip hop group Far East Movement, known for their hits ‘Like A G6’ and ‘Live My Life’. Together with his brother, DJ E-Man, the duo is set to create the world’s first Chinese New Year dance anthem entitled #TigerTwist.

From 7 to 31 January, fans can upload their dance moves to social networks with the hashtag #TigerTwist. The best video submissions will be shortlisted by DJ Virman and DJ E-Man and compiled into a full music video which will be launched on the first day of Chinese New Year, 31 January 2014.

Look out for it on Tiger Beer’s Facebook and YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/tigerbeer). The #TigerTwist track is also available as a free download via SoundCloud (http://bit.ly/tigertwistmp3).

“Chinese New Year marks a fresh and positive start for Tiger Beer and for Singaporeans alike – and we want to usher in new beginnings through a series of celebrations that pack a modern twist. By collaborating with the best talents across music, arts and culture, Tiger Beer is able to extend the festive spirit beyond the traditional sphere to further build a connection with young adults and fans of the brand." --- Mr Rene de Monchy, Head of Marketing, Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore.

I’m Loving The NEW TIGER RADLER

Hi Huneybees,

I was first introduced to this new Tiger Beer variant on Thursday, 28 November 2013 at the noon media launch at Addictions @ 22 Dempsey.

The timing of the media launch (at lunch time) was by no chance a mismanagement by the marketing/communication team of Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore’s (APB Singapore), but a deliberately crafted attempt to allow the media to have a new experience of drinking during office hour.

Tiger Radler, a new variant and product innovation that is made of Tiger Beer with natural lemon juice is designed to provide consumers with double refreshment. Nevertheless, I was initially skeptical when was told that this new Tiger Beer variant could be enjoyed at different times of the day across all occasions, including barbecues, afternoon drinks and even over a spicy meal of chilli crabs with friends.

After experiencing a relaxing brunch of gastronomic delights paired with the refreshing new Tiger Radler, in which I had two bottles, I have to admit that I thought I was having Lemonade rather than beer! The only giveaway was my radiant red face, thanks to my good blood circulation, which is within the family, in reaction to the 2% alcohol content (seriously that little!). Tiger Radler has won me over!!

Tiger Radler is a thirst-quencher packed with a brand new taste that is fruity and sharp whilst being rooted in beer. By the amount of TV ads that you would have already exposed to by the time this blog-post is out, you would have tasted Tiger Radler. The fact that the lemon taste dominated the the beer typical bitter after-taste, coupled with low alcohol content, anyone could easily drink several bottles without realizing that they are actually drinking a beer!

Just in case you are wondering why this new Tiger Beer variant is called Radler, there’s actually a story behind it: Radler, which means ‘cyclist’ in German, is said to have been invented by Frank Xaver Kugler in June 1922 when some 13,000 cyclists unexpectedly visited his pub. To prevent his bar from running dry, he added lemon juice to beer, and Radler was born. The rest is history.

Tiger Radler is now available in both cans (330ml and 500ml) and bottles (330ml Pint bottle and 633ml Quartz bottle) and would be available at all leading retailers, ranging from supermarkets to convenience stores, restaurants, pubs and clubs.

Win Sony PlayStation®4 As APBS Partners With Traffic Police To Launch 1st Digital Campaign Against Drink-Driving

Hi Huneybees,

On 6th December 2013, Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore (APB Singapore) announced details of a new digital project aimed at discouraging the public from driving to drink and to share creative ways of getting to a party without driving. The digital campaign forms part of the on-going ‘Don’t Drink to Drive’ campaign launched by the Traffic Police and the Singapore Road Safety Council.
This is the first year that the annual ‘Don’t Drive to Drink’ campaign boasts a digital viral activation.
“We are always on the lookout for a fresh and effective approach to remind and educate consumers on responsible alcohol consumption. By seeking public involvement in this year’s anti-drink drive campaign, we aim to make the key message of ‘don’t drive to drink and you’ll never drink and drive’ stick.
It is the first time we are crowd sourcing for fresh ideas on how we can avoid drink-driving this festive season. It is our hope that through peer-to-peer sharing of creative ideas and best practices, we encourage more buy-in for responsible consumption,”  --- Shannen Fong, Head of Corporate Relations for APB Singapore

At the heart of the digital activation is a new micro-site, dontdrive2drink.sg. The micro-site aims to crowd source for creative ways to not drive to drink. Consumers are tasked to give suggestions by using the hashtag “#dontdrink2drive” on their social media pages across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
To drive public participation, attractive prizes are up for grabs, with APB Singapore giving away prizes based on two different categories – the Most-Liked Entry and the Most-Shared Entry. Each category will offer five S$100 taxi vouchers to help promote dontdrink2drive, and the top winner in each category will also receive the brand new Sony PlayStation®4 valued at S$639.

Tiger Street Football 2013‏ Is Postponed

Hi Huneybees,

In view of the recent haze conditions, Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore (APBS) has taken the decision to postpone the Singapore leg of Tiger Street Football 2013 national qualifiers (6 and 7 July) and the main tournament (19 and 20 July).
While we have been excited and working hard together with our partners to host the third instalment of the popular Tiger Street Football in Singapore, we do not wish to compromise the health and safety of participants, employees and fans as that has always been our priority in the organisation of the event.

Together with our event partners, we are evaluating a suitable time to host the tournament this year. We will be making an announcement on the new dates for the national qualifiers and the main tournament in due course.

Participants who have signed up for the qualifying rounds will be notified of the changes at a later date.

In the meantime, fans can look out for additional announcements and updates on www.tigerstreetfootball.com andwww.facebook.com/TigerFootballSG.

GUINNESS® Setting World Record Title For The “LONGEST BAR SLIDE”!

Hi Huneybees,

GUINNESS® revealed its iconic draught brew - GUINNESS Draught in a Bottle (GDIB), in a sleek new 330ml bottle in Singapore last night, offering consumers a new twist on the legendary brew. Draught GUINNESS® has traditionally been a tap beer served in a pint glass. Singapore will be the 3rd market globally and the first in Southeast Asia to introduce the newly packaged GUINNESS variant, after North America and South Korea.

History was made by the brand as it celebrated the launch by setting a Guinness World Record of the “Longest Bar Slide”!

“Guinness Draught in a Bottle injects a new feel to a brand that is strongly established in the market. Our all-time favourite Guinness draught now comes straight from a bottle, offering consumers a new and more accessible way of enjoying their favourite product. What better way to launch this bold and smooth new bottle in Singapore than to contest a Guinness World Record of the “Longest Bar Slide”. Guinness aims to bring to our fans ground-breaking experiences and this promises to be an exciting first for the brand here!” --- Mr. Rene de Monchy, Head of Marketing, Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore

The exclusive event was attended by over 350 guests at the House of Timbre and 5 lucky fans picked by GUINNESS attempted to set the world record on behalf of the brand by sliding the new draught bottle down the full length of a 15 metre specially-constructed beer slide, closely watched by an adjudicator from the Guinness World Records.

The 5 lucky handpicked fans and the Adjudicator (left).
The five fans were handpicked by GUINNESS who had submitted the most creative entries to a contest hosted on the brand’s Facebook page which asked consumers to complete the sentence “Guinness is as smooth as…”.

The Adjudicator who kept super close tabs on the participants.

To successfully establish the record, the opened bottle had to remain on the flat, smooth-surfaced bar which measures slightly wider than your average 30 cm ruler after the attempt, with no spillage allowed. Following the record attempts, guests also had the chance to try their hand at the slide on a custom built Guinness bar, which measured 0.5 by 15 metres.

In the end, Guinness fan Jeffrey Ng, slide the new 330ml GUINNESS Draught in a Bottle 14 metres and 10.4 centimetres down the specially constructed bar slide to establish the world record, emerging as the winner for the night.

“We are thrilled to have secured the Guinness World Records title for the “Longest Bar Slide” which made the launch of the iconic Guinness Draught in a Bottle even more ground-breaking. What an exciting first for Guinness in Singapore! Guests and fans witnessed history today and the achievement marks the launch of Guinness Draught in a Bottle which offers consumers a new way of enjoying the Guinness draught they know and love." --- Mr. Rene de Monchy, Head of Marketing, Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore, who received the official certificate from the Guinness World Records adjudicator on-site.

‘Cookies for Charity’ Programme @ Chinatown

Hi Huneybees,

Leading up to Chinese New Year, Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore’s (APBS) held their annual ‘Cookies for Charity’ Programme and it came to a close last week, with over $20,000 raised to support the needy elderly. The funds raised will go towards the vital Meal & Grocery Programme created by Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Constituency, to ensure that the needy elderly living in the constituency are able to eat more regular and nutritious meals.

“We are extremely proud to have yet another successful run of the ‘Cookies for Charity Programme’ this year and remain grateful to every individual and member of the community that has contributed to the cause. The success of this initiative has certainly added to this year’s memorable Lunar New Year celebrations, one that our staff continue to support through their participation and involvement, demonstrating our company’s philosophy of Doing Well and Doing Good.” ---  Alina Boey, Head of Corporate Communications, APBS .

This year, APBS joined hands with local celebrities, Irene Ang and Rosalyn Lee to promote sales of the cookies at the APBS booth at the Chinese New Year Celebrations Festive Street Bazaar in Chinatown.

Both artists were present earlier this evening, encouraging and entertaining the public to spread the Lunar New Year cheer and raise funds for the campaign. They were joined by local Chinese-language television serial actors, Zhu Hou Ren and Huang Shi Nan.

Visitors to the APBS booth were also treated to a surprise Tiger Beer Lion Dance that performed to the global phenomenon, "Gangnam Style" as part of the routine.

With local artists, street performances and APBS’s Cookies for Charity Programme, APBS has been immersed in festive cheer over the past two months, bringing joy and celebration to the community in Kreta Ayer.

“Being a part of the ‘Cookies for Charity’ Programme was a fantastic experience from beginning to end. Everything from interacting with the elderly folk, to working the crowds in Chinatown made me nostalgic about the community, not to mention the delight one receives from bringing joy to others." ---  Irene Ang

While the ‘Cookies for Charity’ programme has come to a close this year, Tiger Beer sales at the Chinatown Chinese New Year Celebrations Festive Street Bazaar, held between People’s Park Complex and OG Chinatown (in front of Chinatown MRT station), continue till 11.00pm on Saturday 9 February 2013.

In celebration of the successful conclusion of the ‘Cookies for Charity’ programme and to further demonstrate the company’s appreciation of their participation, 60 elderly folk from the Kreta Ayer community will be hosted at a “Grannies’ Day Out” lunch, where the special guests will be treated to a sumptuous lunch at Violet Oon’s Kitchen at 881 Bukit Timah Road, on 15 February 2013. Celebrity Chef Violet Oon will be preparing special recipes for them, and will also be present to greet and dine with them.
