Stepping into Marina Square's Central Atrium, you will be greeted by majestic 3D sculptures of endangered ocean animals made entirely out of eco-friendly cardboard. Taking center stage is an 8 metres long whale accompanied by a waddle of penguins. You can also other life-sized marine animals such as the shark, dolphin, turtle, seal, and polar bear.

These sustainability installations are created via a joint project with Singapore Polytechnic, led by Lead Consultant Mr. Bartholomew Ting to spread the word about plastic pollution and create an eco-friendly ocean for these endangered animals.

It's time that everyone starts putting in the effort to help save the Earth and let our generations to come and experience what we are now able to enjoy and see these animals IRL, instead of just these cardboard or AR versions. See this chart above, just simply breaking down a plastic bag takes up to 20 years! Imagine the waste build-up and all the other harmful effects plastic have!

Let's do our part and take a pledge to #BeatPlasticPollution, reduce your environmental footprint and plastic consumption in favour of recyclable goods, and waste reduction. The first 700 shoppers who make the pledge by taking a photo at the Pledge Booth will receive a mini whale cardboard DIY sculpture set, which you can make with your kids at home and perhaps add some colours to it?

SodaStream Says "F** Plastic!"

| |
Hi Huneybees,

At SodaStream, plastics are a big NO! It is the world's leading manufacturer and distributor of sparkling water makers, with over 11 million users worldwide. Established in 1903, SodaStream sparkling water makers offer an innovative alternative to consumers wanting to reduce consumption of bottled and canned carbonated soft drinks. I always call them the healthy fizzy drink maker...

Strongly believing in reducing plastic waste and saving our environment and wildlife from the damage inflicted by non-degradable plastic, SodaStream's carbonating bottle is made from BPA-free material and readily replaces 2,000 disposable bottles and cans per family per year.

This year, SodaStream has made the call to "NO PLASTICS" WEEK (5-8 JUNE) in response to the theme for this year’s World Environment Day - “If you can’t reuse it, refuse it.” According to the National Environmental Agency, Singaporeans disposed roughly 1.67 million tonnes of domestic waste last year, a third of which includes single-use disposables such as plastic bags and food packaging.

Making our Earth less plastic-polluted begins with us and everyone can help with jus a simple change with SodaStream. You can bring their bottles to work, school, the gym, picnics, and even you can even bring it on the plane (empty, of course). Available in two sizes for big and little hands and for more information and where to get SodaStream, go to - www.sodastream.sg.

LG & London Vegetable Orchestra Keeping The Music "Fresh"

| |
Hi Huneybees,

Who doesn't love eating fresh food daily right? But keeping your food fresh could be a challenge right? It's not like we have the luxury time to go shopping for groceries everyday, so what's the solution to keeping them fresh and last through the week and reduce on food wastage?

Food waste is fast becoming one of the biggest challenges of our time. According to the United Nations, up to one third of all food is spoiled or wasted before it is ever consumed. Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year - approximately 1.3 billion tons - gets lost or wasted, amounting to roughly USD 680 billion in industrialized countries and USD 310 billion in developing countries, especially when fruits and vegetables having the highest wastage rates of any food due to their fast spoilage rate and lack of artificial preservatives.

To raise awareness of the issue of food wastage on World Environment Day (5 June), LG teamed up with the music-making talents of the London Vegetable Orchestra (LVO) to demonstrate how the advancedthe LG refrigerators with patented Inverted Linear Compressor technology can help extend the life of fresh foods for weeks or months, even against the demands of quirky performance art.

LVO musicians create green-symphonies with edible instruments by “hacking” fresh produce in a musical way. The orchestra started more than 3 years ago and has been entertaining United Kingdom music lovers with their instruments constructed of squashes, peppers, cassava roots, carrots, and pumpkins.

Because their performances depend on the ability to generate precise sounds with their instruments, the musicians were forced to create new instruments every day with fresh vegetables as older produce could not create the notes that the musicians required as part of their repertoire. See the "magic" happening in the video clip above.

With their instruments kept in the LG refrigerators with patented Inverter Linear Compressor technology, the food can be kept fresh and there was almost no difference in the sound even after a week in storage compared to the common non-linear refrigerators.

This is possible because the LG refrigerators with Inverter Linear Compressor reduces friction through structural enhancements, prevents temperature fluctuations and focusses more energy on keeping food fresh, with less energy and less noise.

Refrigeration technology dramatically changed the way societies evolved because refrigerators allowed people to move away from the agrarian lifestyle into more urban environments. But even refrigerators have their limits. Sweltering temperatures can cause foods, especially natural foods such as fruits and vegetables, to spoil even when stored in a refrigerator.

For maximum benefit, refrigerators must be insulated from fluctuating ambient temperatures which can alter the interior temperature of a refrigerator. The changing temperature inside the refrigerator has the greatest impact on the shelf life of food, more than the coldness of the refrigerator itself.

Thankfully for LG's technology eh? We can now enjoy fresh food daily, whilst saving the earth for more generations to enjoy. For more information on LG's refrigerators and other products, visit www.lg.com. Cheers to a better world!
