SHREK THE MUSICAL Was Farting-ly Awesome!

Hi Huneybees,

After so many months of anticipation, SHREK THE MUSICAL has finally opened this week at the Mastercard Theatres, Marina Bay Sands! The show was roaringly funny, brought me back to the days when Shrek first got introduced to our lives and I left the theatre still in awe over how beautifully the show was crafted and pieced together to make cartoon characters come to LIVE!

We've kinda already know the story from the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, where Shrek, an ogre comes to save the fiesty Princess Fiona from the fire-breathing Dragon protected tower, under the "enlisted" help of Lord Farquaad. He turns out to be her true love and breaks her free from her ogre curse. Just the usual fairytale...

I love that the script didn't deviate much from the original movie and even some of the jokes and puns were exactly the same, the whole jist of the movie is pretty much the same, except this was cartoon characters coming to us LIVE!

First thing that impressed me was the set background! Combining a 10m x 6m LED wall, moving sets with trees that go over 7m high and 60 scene changes, we are literally travelling and walking through forests with Shrek and Donkey on their quest to save Princess Fiona.

Next, is the powerhouse vocals. In particular Grace Leszymski as Dragon and Lindsay Estelle Dunn as Princess Fiona, with them belting their solo parts, they got the loudest claps from the audience and even standing ovation towards the end of the performance.

All in all SHREK THE MUSICAL is definitely the must-go for this school holidays. But probably due to a lack of cartoon-ness and upbeat songs, kids might not be able to stay awake throughout. We found the younger kids dozing off towards the second half of the show even though the green ogre was charming everyone else in the audience...

Be sure to catch the loveable fairy tale characters in SHREK THE MUSICAL this June holiday and check out this Meet Shrek & Princess Fiona Enchanted Tea Party package below for 17th June 2016! Other ticketing details are as follows:

The World's Best-Loved Musical - ANNIE Returns To Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

Hi Huneybees,

BASE Entertainment Asia is proud to announce the return of everyone’s favourite little red-headed orphan to Singapore in time-honoured form.  The U.S. National Tour of ANNIE, now in its second smash year, will play at The MasterCard Theatres, Marina Bay Sands from 24 August 2016 for a limited season.  Directed by original lyricist and director Martin Charnin for the 19th time, this production of ANNIE is a brand new physical incarnation of the iconic Tony Award®-winning original.

Inspired by the famous comic strip Little Orphan Annie which first ran in the New York Daily News in 1924, this uplifting rags-to-riches story of plucky young Annie’s journey from the hard-knock New York orphanage to the luxurious home of billionaire businessman Oliver Warbucks, has become one of the best-loved family musicals of all time.
The beloved score for ANNIE includes “Maybe”, “It’s the Hard Knock Life”, “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile”, “Easy Street”, “I Don’t Need Anything But You” and the eternal anthem of optimism, “Tomorrow”.

ANNIE remains one of the biggest Broadway musical hits ever.  The original production opened 0n 21 April, 1977 at the Alvin Theatre where it ran for 2,377 performances before closing in 1983. The show dominated the Tony Awards that year, winning seven awards in total including Best Musical, Best Book (Thomas Meehan), Best Original Score (music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin), and Best Choreography . It also won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, seven Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical, and the Grammy for Best Cast Show Album.  It has since been performed in 28 languages and has been running around the world for 37 years.  The classic film musical was released in 1982.

The production features a 25 member company: in the title role of Annie is Heidi Gray, an 11-year-old actress from the Augusta, GA area, making her tour debut. Gilgamesh Taggett stars as Oliver Warbucks.  In the role of Miss Hannigan is Lynn Andrews.  Also starring in the tour are Ashley Edler as Grace, Garrett Deagon as Rooster, Lucy Werner as Lily and Jeffrey B. Duncan as FDR.  The orphans are Sage Bentley as Tessie, Angelina Carballo as Kate, Lynn Masako Cheng as Duffy, LillyBea Ireland as Pepper, Bridget Carly Marsh as July and Alyssa Emily Marvin as Molly.
The celebrated design team includes scenic design by Tony Award® winner Beowulf Boritt (Act One, The Scottsboro Boys, Rock of Ages), costume design by Costume Designer’s Guild Award winner Suzy Benzinger (Blue Jasmine, Movin’ Out, Miss Saigon), lighting design by Tony Award® winner Ken Billington (Chicago, Annie, White Christmas) and sound design by Tony Award® nominee Peter Hylenski (Rocky, Bullets Over Broadway, Motown). The lovable mutt “Sandy” is once again trained by Tony Award® Honoree William Berloni (Annie, A Christmas Story, Legally Blonde).    Musical supervision and additional orchestrations are by Keith Levenson (Annie, She Loves Me, Dreamgirls). Casting is by Joy Dewing CSA, Joy Dewing Casting (Soul Doctor, Wonderland).  The tour is produced by TROIKA Entertainment, LLC.

Shrek The Musical To Invade Singapore

Hi Huneybees,

For the first time in Singapore, the most loveable green ogre couple is set to invade the MasterCard Theatres, Marina Bay Sands for a limited season only from 8 June 2016!

Tickets are already going on sale for this live adaptation of the popular Oscar®-winning DreamWorks Animation film -  Shrek. As part of its first ever international tour, SHREK THE MUSICAL brings the hilarious story of everyone’s favourite ogre to the stage.
"In a far away kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an ogre – not a handsome prince – shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey that does not keep quiet, a villain with a short temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand and his name is Shrek."

SHREK THE MUSICAL features a book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize® winner David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole, Good People), music by Olivier Award-winner Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline, or Change). SHREK THE MUSICAL is choreographed by Chris Bailey and directed by Stephen Sposito who served as Associate Director of the Broadway revival How to Succeed in Business starring Daniel Radcliff. Costumes are the Tony Award® winner designs by Tim Hatley (Private Lives, Spamalot).

This production of SHREK THE MUSICAL is produced by Broadway Entertainment Group FZ LLC and NETworks Presentations, LLC and presented by BASE Entertainment Asia.

USA Today calls it a “BIG FAT HIT!” and Sunday Telegraph says it is "SHREKTACULAR!", how can you give this LIVE fairytale a miss?!
