2025 marks a golden milestone in the long-standing friendship between Singapore and South Korea as both nations celebrate 50 years of diplomatic ties. To commemorate this meaningful anniversary, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Singapore has curated a year-long celebration filled with exciting events, cultural experiences, and opportunities for connection.

Over 30 events will be taking place across the island, offering a vibrant mix of arts, performances, food, and entertainment. These activities are designed to highlight the unique cultures of both countries while fostering deeper appreciation and friendship among their people. Whether you’re a culture lover, foodie, or just looking to explore something new, there’s something special in store for everyone.

Beyond the celebrations, there will also be meaningful initiatives focused on children and youth. Through cultural, academic, and literary exchanges, the programme aims to inspire a stronger bond between future generations of Singaporeans and Koreans. This golden jubilee not only celebrates past achievements but also looks ahead to continued partnership and collaboration for years to come.

A Year of Korean Culture in Singapore

The celebrations began with an awe-inspiring performance of Jongmyo Jeryeak – a traditional Korean royal court music piece – held at the Esplanade on April 4. This sacred musical showcase was part of the Esplanade’s series on spiritual traditions and attended by culture ministry representatives from both countries.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

• April 4–5: Jongmyo Jeryeak Performance
  Experience the grandeur of Korean royal court music from the Joseon dynasty, traditionally performed during ancestral rituals. This showcase is part of the Esplanade's A Tapestry of Sacred Music festival.
  
  
• April 17: 7th Korea-Singapore Forum
  A high-level gathering of academics and senior government officials from both nations to reflect on bilateral achievements and explore deeper collaboration in areas such as diplomacy, economy, and culture.
  
  
• May 16–18: Korea Travel Fair 2025
  Discover the best of Korean culture at Plaza Singapura! From beauty and fashion to Hallyu content and live performances, this fair promotes Korean tourism and lifestyle experiences to Singaporeans.
  
  
• May 19–24: Korean Language Week

• July 19: Changwon K-pop World Festival – Singapore Preliminaries
  Organised in partnership with *SCAPE, this competition invites young talents to compete for a chance to represent Singapore in the global K-pop finals held in Korea.
  
  
• August 18–30: Korea Traditional Arts & Culture Week
  Immerse yourself in the beauty of Korean heritage with hands-on experiences in folk painting, decorative knot-making, and traditional musical instruments.
  
  
• End of September: Korean Art Symposium
  A curated showcase of works by emerging Korean visual artists and creatives, highlighting contemporary perspectives and cross-cultural exchange.
  
  
• September 26 – October 12: Korean Lantern Exhibition
  Wander through Gardens by the Bay and admire glowing artworks crafted from hanji (traditional Korean paper), as part of the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations.
  
  
• October 6–10: Korea Food Street Festival
  Held along Tanjong Pagar Road, this lively festival features cultural performances and exclusive deals at participating Korean restaurants, with attendance by dignitaries and the public alike.
  
  
• October 11: Korea-Singapore Sharing Festival
  In partnership with Willing Hearts, this heartwarming event offers traditional Korean cultural experiences and craft workshops for children from low-income, single-parent Singaporean families.
  
  
• October 16–26: Korea Film Festival
  A celebration of Korean cinema showcasing a wide array of genres, from documentaries to indie films, screened at the National Gallery Singapore and GV Suntec City.
  
  
• October 27 – November 1: Korea Cuisine Week
  Learn to make authentic Korean dishes in themed workshops that bring together Singaporeans and Koreans through the love of food.
  
  
• October 31: Baek Gun-woo Concert
  World-renowned pianist Baek Gun-woo joins the Orchestra of the Music Makers Singapore (OMM) for an evening of classical excellence at the Esplanade.
  
  
• November 28: SKIS Philharmonic Orchestra Concert
  Enjoy a charming repertoire of Korean and Singaporean music performed by the Singapore Korean International School’s talented orchestra.
  
  
• End of November: My Happy Family Workshop
  An art therapy and networking session designed for overseas Korean and multicultural families, focused on building community bonds and emotional well-being.
  
  
• December 2–5: Korea Showcase at Asia TV Forum (ATF)
  Korea’s top broadcasting and animation studios take center stage at ATF with a joint exhibition booth, presenting the latest in K-content to a global audience.
  
  

Looking to the Future, Celebrating the Past

This series of events goes beyond celebration – it’s also about deepening the bonds between the people of both nations. Earlier this year, a joint logo was unveiled in Seoul to mark this special 50th anniversary, featuring symbolic elements from both countries’ national flags.

“With this year marking the establishment of the Korea-Singapore Strategic Partnership as well as the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations amid rising geopolitical tensions, I will do my best to ensure that Korea and Singapore continue to strengthen their partnership through various practical cooperation and the deepening of the friendship between the people of the two countries.” --- Ambassador Hong Jin-wook

In addition, Singapore’s National Museum and the National Folk Museum of Korea will sign a three-year agreement to collaborate on heritage and cultural initiatives, including the use of technology in the arts.

LG's New Smaller Capacity TWINWash Models Customized To Cater To Your Laundry Needs

With our land getting scarce and housing shrinking in sizes, it can be a little difficult to fit all the appliances needed in. LG's total laundry solution - TWINWash® washing machines, dryers, and LG Styler™, might just be what you are looking for. The total laundry system provides a solution for each step of the laundry process which will help to make household chores much easier.

The LG TWINWash^Ò washing machines maximize user convenience by making it possible to wash two loads of laundry at once, allowing you to choose and pair one main washer to a mini washer. I know it is what I currently need, let me share with you what I have in mind and maybe they will be the solution for you too!

1. Smaller Capacities to Fit Smaller Spaces & Families
Having the  LG new lineup of TWINWash® washers being smaller now, you can save on the space and they are now more affordable. They are available in 8 and 9kg washer-only,  8/5kg and 9/6kg washer-dryer as well as 2kg mini washer in stainless steel which can be paired with the 8 & 9kg main washers.

2. Infinite Matching to Suit Your Needs
Basically, you can match the washers, dryers with mini washers in however combination required. If you currently already have a washer, you can simply add on the mini washer to aid in washing extra laundry.

Other than the new smaller capacities, the washer-dryer models FG1410H3W and FG1612H3W boast 10/7kg and 12/8kg front-loaders respectively, so larger families can still enjoy the benefits that LG TWINWash^Ò solutions offer. These models can also be paired with a mini washer. 

For multigenerational families or families with even larger loads of laundry to wash, washer-dryer models F2718RVTV (18/10kg front-loader) and F2721HTWV (21/12kg front-loader), together with the 3.5kg mini washer T2735NTWV, make an ideal choice. 

3. The Beauty of Mini Washers
What's the use of a mini washer add-on? Well, you can wash 2 loads at one time, separating the whites from colored laundry, baby clothing or lingerie from the main laundry load. I mean, it's weird to be washing the baby's clothing with dad's smelly soccer socks right?! Or if your kid was playing in soiled grounds and you just have that small load to wash, simply just use the mini washer instead of having to gather all the laundry together just for 1 wash right?

4. Innovative Features
The TWINWash^Ò solution offers innovative features such as TrueSteam^Ò and TurboWash™. The TrueSteam^Ò technology penetrates fabrics with steam to eliminate 99.9 percent of household allergens as well as wrinkles and odors. On the other hand, the TurboWash™ function shortens washing cycle time and gives fabrics the proper care they deserve at the same time.

6. Smart Home Appliances
Wi-Fi® enabled and can be connected to the SmartThinQ® app so users can activate the solutions and do their laundry remotely. You can have the laundry done and waiting for you once you get home!

7. Goes Well with LG Styler^TM 
The completes the laundry care suite for special care items such as soft toys, pillows, duvets and more; it is also a great solution to refresh your clothes. The LG Styler^TM is equipped with LG TrueSteam^Ò technology that is an easy, straightforward way to gently sanitize clothes, reduce wrinkles and eliminate unpleasant odors left behind by smoke, food, and sweat. Thanks to a special door compartment, the LG Styler^TM adds a neat crease to dress pants too.

The LG Styler^TM also dehumidifies the room where it is installed. The sleek appliance makes an investment piece for the long run. Using the Refresh Mode, a 39-minute standard normal cycle once a day for 30 days will only cost around S$8 per month. Summer Play With M.A.C x Steve J & Yoni P

After building so much hype, this June, we can finally see the launch of  M.A.C. x Steve J. & Yoni P. collection. It's nice to see more and more Asian collaborations and this K-wave collection is definitely for those who loves a natural look with a pop of colour.

For those who don’t already know, Steve J & Yoni P are a Korean design couple that are currently on the global fashion radar. They are known for their spunky yet sporty aesthetic that is streetwear ready with a dramatic touch.

And this collection makes good pairing with their fashion line. The packaging literally screams Yoni P in your face with her signature blonde locks and bold eyeliner look, it is plastered all over the boxes and even the products inside as well.

This new collection includes four lipsticks, two powder blushes, a potted eye gloss, a black mascara, two powder eyeshadow duos, a six-pan lip and cheek cream palette, a makeup bag and two brushes.

For me, I was aiming for the makeup bag, I find it as the highlight of the collection and I knew I had to get it, It makes a good storage for your makeup needs and also as a clutch bag for parties (why not right?); with a mirror within, you can easily touch up your makeup on the go.

Another product that is pocket worthy, would have to be the Yoni Attraction lip/cheek palette. 6 shades ranging from baby pink to bright corals and bubblegum pinks can be found all in one palette. The creamy opaque formula makes it easy to pick up and blend out, you can swipe and tap lightly on your cheeks for a flush of colour or use a lip brush for your lip shades, definitely travel friendly.

If you are not fans of the cream formula, there are also 2 powder blushers - Sugar or Syrup and Peony Petal that suit your warm or cool needs. They give your cheeks a subtle sheen of flush, pretty pigmented and blends out easily, but might seem a tad too light for those with darker skin tones.

Next are the eyeshadow duos. Nothing fancy, just 2 palettes that will work great for day and night looks. Touch Me Baby is a combo of Soba (soft brown with gold shimmer) and Keep on Twinkling (light frosted pink), whilst Midnight Fever features Let’s Boogie (black with sparkles) and Sparkling Moment (black with purple & red sparkles).

Soba makes a great contour crease shade, whilst Keep on Twinkling draws attention to your eyes as you blink. They are not too shiny and are great shades for a day look with black eyeliner.

Of course, the Dazzleshadow duo makes great night shades with Sparkling Moment all over lid and Let’s Boogie to contour or line the lashes. You can even spray on a little Fix+ for more intensity.

Lastly, are the lipsticks! 4 shades to match the eyeshadow duos for different looks, different occasions.  

They are opaque, full opacity with just a single swipe, moisturizing and fun shades to have this summer. Candy Yum Yum is a regular shade, but the cute packaging just gives you an excuse to buy another.

My favourite shade is A Killing Smile. It is a matte formula, but not drying at all. It is a very pretty crossover of red and coral, a special shade that you must have to add to your collections! Above is me wearing ths lipstick shade and swatches of others as below.

As for the eye gloss, I find it too close to the Brooke Candy collection, so I didn't get and didn't swatch; and the mascara is simply the Zoom Lash mascara in a different packaging. Be mindful though, it is not waterproof.

Overall Thoughts

If you a sucker for packaging (I know I am!) or M.A.C addict, go ahead and pick out a few of the items that you need. However, the range of colours are not as bold as the packaging, they are what I would call safe colours, that are good for natural day/night looks, which I guess guarantees fast sell-outs. I was also a little disappointed that there's a lack of eyeliner though, coz Yoni P definitely does her eyeliner on point, a black waterproof piece would be perfect to round off the collection eh?

The collection will be in stores 1st June 2017. So be sure to go early to GRAB! #MACSJYP
