Samsung Wants Your Smartwatch to Stop Counting Steps... and Start Looking After You

Hi Huneybees,

I've always thought smartwatches were great at collecting data.

Heart rate? Check.

Sleep hours? Check.

Step count? Thousands of them.

But after staring at pages of numbers, I often find myself wondering...

"So... what am I actually supposed to do with all this information?"

Samsung seems to have asked the very same question.

Instead of simply tracking your health, the company is taking a much bigger step forward by making the upcoming Galaxy Watch act more like an intelligent wellness companion that can actually interpret your body's signals and offer meaningful guidance.

Alongside the upcoming One UI 9 update, Samsung is giving us an early preview of where Galaxy devices are heading next... one that's powered heavily by AI and designed to simplify everyday life.

Your Body Speaks at Night

One of the updates that immediately caught my attention is a new feature called Vitals.

Rather than showing individual health readings separately, the watch analyses 5 overnight measurements - including heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature and blood oxygen, against your own normal baseline.

The clever part is that it doesn't bombard you with constant notifications. Instead, it'll only alert you when something genuinely looks different from your usual patterns, whether your body might need extra recovery or perhaps you're starting to fall ill. It's a more thoughtful approach that focuses on useful insights instead of information overload.

One Number That Reveals More About Your Heart

Health tracking has become increasingly complicated over the years.

Sleep scores.

Stress scores.

Body fat percentages.

Activity rings.

Samsung is trying to simplify allllllll that with a new Heart Health Score.

It combines information like your sleep, stress levels, daily activity and body composition into a single score that highlights habits affecting your long-term cardiovascular wellness.

Considering cardiovascular disease remains one of Singapore's leading health concerns, having an easy-to-understand daily snapshot could encourage people to become more proactive before problems develop.

Smarter Training, Not Just Harder Training

For anyone who exercises regularly, or is trying to become more active, Samsung is also introducing two interesting additions.

The new Daily Cardio Load measures how much strain your cardiovascular system has accumulated and recommends when to push harder or when it's better to recover.

Meanwhile, Fitness Index evaluates metrics such as heart rate, VO₂ max and daily activity against users with similar profiles to identify strengths, weaknesses and personalised goals.

It's less about chasing arbitrary numbers and more about understanding whether your workouts are actually helping you improve over time and doing the right exercises your body needs.

Samsung Health Is Getting a Cleaner Look

Sometimes the biggest improvements aren't flashy new features, it's just better organisation. Samsung Health is introducing a redesigned interface built around five core pillars:

 • Sleep
 • Activity
 • Nutrition
 • Mindfulness
 • Vitals

Your AI-powered Energy Score and personalised wellness tips are now easier to access from a central home screen, making it much simpler to see how your daily habits influence one another.

Samsung is also enhancing features like the Antioxidant Index and AGEs Index to provide richer long-term nutritional and metabolic insights, while adding a new Hearing Health feature that monitors environmental noise exposure through the Galaxy ecosystem.

One UI 9 Isn't Just About AI

Beyond health, Samsung also previewed One UI 9, built on Android 17, bringing a more personalised and secure Galaxy experience.

Some of the quality-of-life improvements include:

 • More creative tools in Samsung Notes
 • Personalised profile cards through Contacts
 • A more flexible Quick Panel layout
 • Better accessibility with Text Spotlight and improved TalkBack
 • Stronger protection against potentially harmful apps

None of these are dramatic headline features on their own, but together they point towards a cleaner, more intuitive Galaxy experience that places AI quietly in the background instead of constantly demanding attention.

Anticipating...

What I like most about this announcement is that Samsung doesn't seem to be chasing "more features" for the sake of it. Instead, it feels like they're trying to answer a much more important question:

How can technology help us make better everyday decisions?

Whether it's recognising that your body needs extra rest, helping you train smarter instead of harder, or presenting complicated health information in a way that's actually easy to understand, these updates feel far more practical than simply adding another graph or statistic.

Of course, we'll have to wait until the next Galaxy Watch officially launches to see how these AI-powered insights perform in everyday life. But if they work as promised, this could mark one of Samsung's most meaningful health upgrades yet.

So.... ready for a new watch? 😜

G-SHOCK X HUF (GA-2100HUF-5A) As My Birthday Present?

Hi Huneybees,

OMG! This news came right on my birthday, is it a hint for me to get it as a present for myself? Check this new G-SHOCK watch - a limited-edition collaborative timepiece with HUF (GA-2100HUF-5A).

The watch commemorates 2022’s 20th Anniversary of the founding of professional skater Keith Hufnagel's HUF brand and is based off the best-selling G-SHOCK GA-2100 model. What attracts me is the special colour combination with the dial is colored in lime green and orange, (which are the characteristic colors of the HUF brand), and the HUF 20th-Anniversary logo is engraved on the back of the cover.

Inspired by sneaker culture, this new model combines different materials, such as resin and metal band loops, and a cloth band; even the packaging of this watch is well thought out, the cityscape of San Francisco with the colours of the watch. The result is a timepiece that reflects the originality unique to HUF!

The GA-2100HUF-5A will be available at https://gshock.casio.com/sg/ from 9th September 2022 for CASIO ID members.  It will be available in all G-SHOCK stores from the 16th September 2022.

You can sign up for CASIO ID at https://www.casio.com/sg/casio-id/ to be updated with the latest updates and for more information, go to G-SHOCK Singapore Official Website or CASIO Singapore Official Website.

Let's welcome the new addition to G-SHOCK - G-SQUAD Red Out series, which are the new colourways of the tough sports watches. The base models are GBD-200 which inherits the square design of the original G-SHOCK, and the analog-digital combination GBA-900. The bezel, case, and band are all decked out in red, with some other red accents, they make a good fashion statement piece for the New Year as well as the upcoming Lunar New Year.

These watches can link with the GPS of a smartphone for quicker calibration of distance measurements. Smartphone linking also lets you connect with the watch via Bluetooth® to enable auto time adjustment, phone notifications, step tracking, and other functions throughout the day. From daily health management to the training that improves running endurance, these new watches provide you with the tools you need to achieve a wide range of health and workout goals.

In terms of other features, these watches equip with a double LED light for the face and digital display, which gives a clear view in dark places. The soft urethane band with many band holes provides you outstanding ventilation and flexibility and ensures a snug fit on the wrist.

The Casio G-SHOCK MT-G Blue Phoenix-Inspired Watch Is Simply Too 'Chio'

Hi Huneybees,

Being unable to travel these days have made me do tons of finger shopping from home. It's so easy to get updates and shopping discounts within a few scrolls, I've already "updated" my summer wardrobe and I'm eyeing on something else now.

You guys know anything that's bright, loud, rainbow, neon and chrome are all in my palette. So, here comes the new addition to the G-SHOCK family of shock-resistant watches - MTG-B2000PH! Check out its rainbow chrome glory, so futuristic and so easy to pair with any style of clothing!

The new MTG-B2000PH has a rainbow ion plating on the bezel and case as well as a multi-colored dial expressing its design motif inspired by the Blue Phoenix, a bird of Eastern mythology said to bear auspicious tidings.

The bezel features an independent construction separate from the case with layers of yellow-to-red gradation (crosswise on the bezel) and lengthwise on the case, over light-blue ion plating evocative of blazing-hot flames to achieve a mystical coloration in which innumerable hues seem intertwined. The subtle color variations in the rainbow ion plating mean that every single watch is unique, no two look the same. The dial also employs accents in a multicolor design of colors like pink and orange. The translucent navy-blue band sets the watch design off with a resplendent vision of the Blue Phoenix.

Chio (hokkien for pretty) right?! I'm so mesmerized by it, even my Singlish side is coming out. LOL!

Of course, the watch is not only pretty to look at, it is also complemented by outstanding functionality. It has radio wave time-calibration and also automatic time adjustment when paired with a smartphone using a dedicated app. The watch automatically adjusts to local time when crossing time zones, without requiring the user to do anything.

Pretty and smart right? Should I?? Should I get it??? If you are interested too, you can go check the special installation featuring this MT-G Blue Phoenix at Casio G-SHOCK Premium Marina Bay Sands (MBS) store from the 18th June to the 24th June. Using the unique rainbow color, the worldview of the mystical flair and spectrum can be seen.

The MT-G Blue Phoenix is priced at $1,659 and will be available at https://www.g-shock.sg/  from 11 June 2021 and at all G-SHOCK stores from 18 June 2021. *crossing fingers it doens't get snatched up too early, leave one for me....*

Did You Manage To Check Out The Samsung Gear S2 At The Samsung Galaxy Studio?

Hi Huneybees,

Did you check out the Samsung Gear S2 over the weekend at the Samsung Galaxy Studio? It was held in celebration of the recent launch of the Galaxy Note 5 4G+, Galaxy S6 edge+ 4G+, Galaxy Tab S2, as well as in anticipation of the launch of the Samsung Gear S2 in Singapore!

At the Galaxy Studio, we were given an interactive and experiential walkthrough of Samsung’s latest mobile devices through a series of fun activities at the four different zones that incorporated the use of the latest Samsung mobile products.

1) The Gear Zone was an exhibition that deep-dived into the design and development of the Gear S2 where consumers could take home a customised button badge.

2) The Note Zone was where consumers experienced a teardown showcase of the Galaxy Note 5 4G+ and had their caricatures drawn by the talented artists to bring home as mementos. There was even a Virtual Makeover section to make all the photoshopping come to live!

3) The Photo Zone featured personalised photos taken and edited by the Galaxy Note 5 4G+, Galaxy Studio guests were treated to self-styled latte art printed in edible ink.

4) The Music Zone allowed consumers to groove to the tunes of local music acts such as DJ Andrew T, TMA Collective, Johan & Jerome and Hubbababbas, upscaled to Ultra High Quality Audio in a silent concert.

Singaporean Pop Art Artist, Jahan Loh, with his record breaking graffiti featuring the design inspiration and journey of the Gear S2.
Amidst the buzz of activities over the weekend, Singaporean contemporary artist, Jahan Loh was also at the event, creating a Singapore record breaking illustration of 37.5 metres (Length) by 4.88 metres (Height), which was conferred an award for the “Largest Graffiti Art By an Individual” by the Singapore Book of Records. His creation, which was displayed outside the Galaxy Studio tent, featured a visual story of the design inspiration and benefits that the Gear S2 brings, and it improves lives with every turn.

COME!
Let's take a look at the highly anticipated Samsung Gear S2...

Specially designed for consumers with distinct preferences, the Gear S2 is available in two different options – the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 classic. The Gear S2 classic is made for users who prefer a more timeless watch design while the Gear S2 is ideal for those who are on-the-go and have an admiration for minimal and modern design.

The Gear S2 features a signature 1.2-inch circular screen with 360 x 360 (302ppi) resolution and a unique rotating bezel, Home and Back buttons to enable its wearer to access to the individual notifications and applications. With many pages to customize, you will be able to have your very own smartwatch to personalise and enjoy.

Equipped with Tizen Platform, an optimised 1GHz Dual Core Processor, you can easily stay connected at your wrist and never have to miss any important appointments, emails, news and important texts. Together with smart sensors, an IP68 (dust and water resistant) rating, as well as a battery that can last up to 3 days, this is definitely something I'm considering having to add on to my Samsung home of gadgets. :P

Did you manage to pre-order the Samsung Gear S2 at the Galaxy Studio? It will be available in stores from 2 October 2015 and I can't wait to get my hands on one soon ~~~
