DAY 3 of inaugural Sing Jazz 2014 (Part 2/2)

I'm back to share the second part of  the Day 3 of the inaugural Singapore International Jazz Festival 2014 (Sing Jazz 2014)!

@8:55PM: James Morrison Many people who are unfamiliar with Jazz might have mistaken the identity of the multi-instrumental Australian jazz musician from the more popular British pop star James Morrison, who share the same name.  James Morrison playing the trumpet I was amazed by how good James Morrison is with the trumpet! Widely known for his trumpet playing, James (Lloyd) Morrison, also played many instruments such as saxophones, clarinet, flugelhorn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, double bass, guitar and piano.  James Morrison gave the audience a truly brilliant exhibition of classic instrumental jazz at its best! James Morrison playing saxophone with guest singer Roberta Gambarini   The multi-instrumental playing Australian showed the audience how good he was in playing and switching between instruments; this time with a trombone James Morrison on piano playing a number with double bass @10:30PM: India Arie Probably the most recognizable name in the Day 3 of Sing Jazz 2014, India Arie is a Grammy Award-winning American singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer. She has sold over 3.3 million records in the US and 10 million worldwide according to Wikipedia. The Soul Jazz Grammy Award winner India Arie! India Arie praised the audience for giving her the overwhelming support and hence energy for her performance  Audience interaction moment with India Arie Wearing her mother-made white dress, India Arie not only displayed such a strong vocal performance of soul jazz but her confidence as well when she threw her head dress away during a number. A demonstration of confidence without the head dress! An excellent vocal performance of Soul Jazz by India Arie and her back-up singers India Arie showing off her mum-made dress to the audience Overall the evening has been a excellent mixed of Jazz performance and certainly a great introduction to someone, like me, who has little exposure to Jazz music before.

DAY 3 of inaugural Sing Jazz 2014 (Part 1/2) UPDATED

·     Day 3 of the  inaugural Singapore International Jazz Festival featured a strong cast, which included JAMES TAYLOR QUARTET, ALLEN STONE, JAMES MORRISON, and INDIA ARIE. @6:30PM: James Taylor Quartet First to step on the stage is the British four-piece jazz funk band, James Taylor Quartet, who have became renowned for their live performances.  The brand had Avon Daniel as the guest singer who added more funkiness to a great jazz opener for the evening. It was certainly very unfortunate that an encore request from the crowd could not be given due to the schedule of the event. Hopefully we will see more of James Taylor Quartet soon! James Taylor Quartet with guest singer Avon Daniel A great performance that really warmed up the audience for the evening Avon Daniel's vocal added the extra funkiness to the already excellent performance by the James Taylor Quartet   @7:45PM: Allen Stone Allen Stone may not be a household name yet but he certainly did gathered a strong following in Singapore from the reaction of the crowd when he came on stage.  This self-proclaimed  "hippie with soul" singer and songwriter, certainly lived up to his name with his hippie tunes and wild moves throughout his performance. By the end of his performance, Allen Stone surely has made many new fans from the crowd reaction he received at the end of his last song. Rehearsal and Meet & Greet: Allen Stone

Hi Huneybees,

I had the privilege to attend the rehearsal as well as meeting Allen Stone in person yesterday afternoon before his actual performance at the inaugural Singapore International Jazz Festival 2014, aka Sing Jazz 2014, that evening.

For those who don't know who Allen Stone is, according to Wikipedia:
Allen Stone is a soul musician from Chewelah, Washington. His website states that people describe him as a soul and R&B singer, yet he sees himself as a "hippie with soul.

Despite a scorching weather, out at Marina Bay Sand's outdoor Event Plaza,  my patience paid off when he and his band finally came on stage 1 hour after the original scheduled appointment!

It's my first time attending a concert rehearsal and its certainly interesting to witness the earnest side of him towards his music during the session when he and his band were making adjustment with the sound crew.

Finally came the moment of the meet & greet session with Allen Stone and I must say, from what I had gathered during the short but breath-taking instance, he really came across as a very friendly and unassuming person, who declined politely to be photographed alone but welcome every request to be photographed with us or with his brand.
