Conquering My Fear Of Heights With Samsung Gear VR #BeFearless

Recently, I had the Samsung Gear VR over for Chinese New Year. I had friends and relatives trying out the nifty new gadget whilst playing some loaded VR experiences including the #BeFearless VR app that's suppose to aid those who have fear of heights or fear of talking in front of a crowd. 

*Reminds me of Eun Hwan-ki of "The Shy Boss (내성적인 보스)", have you watched the kdrama? I'm addicted to it! Yeon Woo-jin is cute in his shy ways! *

Ok, back to the Samsung Gear VR, this black Oculus-powered VR headset is a new updated version with some slight changes to its predecessors. It does feel a little heavier than the previous models, but it's definitely wider and easier to fit for my big face, together with vents, it is less likely to fog up the screens whilst playing.

There's also an additional home button, that makes navigation around the Oculus home area super easy and much faster to access too.

With Virtual Reality changing the way of lives, I think there's a lot of room to explore other than just games; practice surgeries, exploring different parts of the world without spending big bucks and even conquering fears!

When Samsung launched the #BeFearless app to conquer fears, I was eager to jump on the ship and try it out. I tend to chicken out when going to high places, I would always need my hubby's arm to grab tightly on and inch my way around. I always have a habit of standing at the center of escalators or the side that's close to wall for fear of looking down. The ones at ION Orchard where both ends are open spaced always gets on my nerves and I wouldn't use it if there's no hubby to grab on.

After trying out the Fear of Height levels (Cliff Driving, Heli Ski and Suspension Bridge) of the app, I went to "scale" those scary escalators again. I have to admit, I still had little jitter bugs whilst travelling up, but I dared to lean against the open side and look down. So, I guess, the next for me is to try the MacRitchie TreeTop Walk and hopefully conquer the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge. WAHAHAHAHAHA!

A little note when using the Samsung Gear VR though, watch where you are going and be aware of your surrounding. I do feel a little giddy after using it, so you might wana have a seat nearby. All in all, I'm looking forward to what the VR world has to offer and hopefully more games and apps will be made for the experience.

Conquer Your Fear With Samsung #BeFearless Campaign

Ever wanted to bungee off a suspending bridge into the valleys, scale the Sydney Harbour Bridge or give a talk like Steve Jobs in front of a huge crowd, but never had the courage to do? If your fear of heights and fear of public speaking is holding you back, check out Samsung's latest #BeFearless campaign. That might just help you conquer that fear and allow you to fulfill that dream of yours...

The #BeFearless campaign is an initiative targeted at helping millennials overcome their fears to unleash their fullest potential with the help of VR technology. This year’s campaign focuses on two common fears – fear of heights and fear of public speaking, and millennials will be able to participate in a series of trainings using Samsung’s #BeFearless VR app to help them overcome their fear.

VR is taking over the world and now it can put to another use other than gaming!

The #BeFearless VR app is develoed by Samsung together with medical professionals at the Yonsei University Gangnam Severance Hospital in South Korea with a success rate of nearly 90 percent was achieved in reducing 82 participants’ anxiety from public speaking and heights through the #BeFearless VR training.

There are a few situation levels with different difficulty levels in the app to help in our fear conquering process. See videos for the scenarios possible.

As part of the programme, Samsung is partnering with experts and trainers from organisations such as the Public Speaking Academy of Singapore to determine the progress that participants have made in overcoming their fear. Two finalists, one per fear, who achieved the greatest inroads in unleashing their potential will join the #BeFearless global finale to be held in New York.

If you are interested to participate, simply to submit a story sharing what you hope to achieve should you overcome your fear on the #BeFearless official site at www.samsung.com/sg/launchingpeople.

Registration closes on 4 January 2017 and 10 finalists, five per fear, will be shortlisted to take part in a five-week training programme. The 10 finalists will each receive a set of Samsung products consisting of a Galaxy S7 edge, Samsung Gear VR and Samsung Gear S3.

In addition, one story submission per week from 8 December 2016 to 4 January 2017 will be selected for feature on Samsung’s social channels. Featured submissions stand to win a set a Samsung Gear S3.

Campaign Mechanics

From 8 December 2016, individuals can submit their story, sharing what they hope to achieve from overcoming their fear. Ten finalists – five per fear – will be shortlisted after the close of the submission period. The selected finalists will take part in a five-week VR training programme.

The campaign is also partnering with experts and trainers from organisations such as the Public Speaking Academy (http://publicspeakingacademy.com.sg/) to evaluate and determine the progress that participants have made in overcoming their fear.

From 19 December 2016, consumers can visit the Samsung Experience Store at VivoCity during opening hours to immerse themselves in the #BeFearless VR experience. Additionally, consumers can also try out the #BeFearless VR training programme through the #BeFearless VR app, available for free download from the Oculus Gear VR Store.

Samsung Reveals All New VR Experience With GALAXY S7, S7 edge and Gear 360 Camera

Gathered this early morning is the revealing of the much discussed new Samsung GALAXY S7 and S7 edge. With their new and upgraded functions, comes a whole new experience and this special experience could only be fulfilled with the Samsung Gear VR.

This was not the usual launch LIVE Streaming launch, but one that involved VR experience, where I got to be fully immersed in the whole conference as though I was right there in Barcelona! Now, where's my popcorn?

VR, short for Virtual Reality is the new IT thing. Videos have already become such a norm, it's time to upgrade and get transported into this new dimension with the Samsung Gear VR (which we have already seen in previous launches) and to support 360° video taking, there's this new baby - Samsung Gear 360 Camera!

An Experience With The Samsung GALAXY Note 4....

So, you have your eye on the Samsung GALAXY Note 4 4G+ and the GALAXY Note Edge 4G+. What are the newly added functions and what are the new accessories? Well, maybe you can come to a decision after reading what I experienced and learnt at the Samsung GALAXY Note 4 World Tour 2014 (Singapore)...

Let's take a look at the Samsung GALAXY Note 4 first?

Weighing only 176g and with a thickness of just 8.5mm, the new tools found on Samsung GALAXY Note 4 can break down to specials in 4 categories. Under design, you can look to find the same smooth texture back cover as the Note 3, with a premium metal frame running along the side. The 5.7" Quad HD SUPER AMOLED Display (2560 x 1440) reproduces clearer and more vivid images with deep contrast, better viewing angels and response faster.

And with a larger and clearer screen, the Multi Window feature is upgraded with Full, Split or Pop Up View and you can easily change the size of it with just a swipe. This would definitely convenient you when you want to copy, paste and send information out. See the video above...

Then, it comes to the magical S Pen. It is not just a pen, it also works as your mouse. Not only can you use it to navigate around your phone, including the back button and settings button, you can forget about having to use your fingers.

Jahan Loh, Visual Artist is loving it as he can let his creative flow and create art pieces on the go!

With double the pressure sensitivity at 2048 levels, you can literally emulate writing on paper with a fountain or calligraphy pen. You can also easily select and copy text with just a swipe and not having to always adjusting the open and close arrows.

One other cool selection tool - Smart Select, allows you to screen capture up to 10 images from different origins and once collected in the "basket" you can share them with ease. It totally helps save so much time!

Something that I find totally useful is the upgraded S Note. Now not only can you write and type, you can even do Photo Note. Take photos of your handwritten notes and convert it into S Note for further editing. If you are like Jaime Teo, founder Twelve Cupcakes who likes to take messy notes and want to send something more neat out, you will definitely fall in love with this tool.

Last but not least, the powerful camera has been amped up to take brighter and clearer images. Equipped with a 16 megapixel rear camera featuring Smart OIS (Optical Image Stabilizer). Camera shake is reduced and now under low light, it will automatically extend the exposure time.

In addition, the 3.7 megapixel front camera with f1.9 allows you selfie / wefie fanatics to take up to 120° wide photos, including everyone into the photo without having to cut off anyone's beautiful features, or even the need of a selfie stick! Yipee!

As demonstrated on stage, the not only the selfie includes the hosts, even the audience at the back was included in the picture!

Oh! And did I mention? With the Fast Charging feature and Ultra Power Saving Mode, The GALAXY Note 4 4G+ charges from 0% to 50% battery in 30 minutes. Totally a "life saver"!

So, what about those who likes to "beautify" their phones? You can expect to get this Swarovski for Samsung bling bling back phone covers instead of the usual boring covers phone covers.

Or for those who wants a sleeker look, you can choose the Mont Blanc phone covers and of course, the Mont Blanc S Pen! Talk about Mr Fancy Pants! :D

Ok! So that's a mouthful of information from the all new Samsung GALAXY Note 4 4G+, so let's hop on over to the Samsung GALAXY Note Edge 4G+.

The GALAXY Note Edge takes the GALAXY Note experience to the next level with the additional side screen for you to get notifications, access information, frequent apps, tools and photo galleries right at the unique curved Edge screen on the side, you don't even have to flip your phone cover!

And because everything is pushed to the side, you can watch your videos uninterrupted, even when taking photos, you can totally see the full screen without the tools and settings disrupting! I loving this additional peek-a-boo screen and I can't wait to get my hands on it. :)

So, let's go on to the accessories. On top of just the phone covers, there's the wearable Samsung Gear S. It is not just a watch for you to receive notifications and answer calls, the Gear has now been upgraded to work on its on away from your phone as well.

Connecting with 3G (Nano SIM card), Bluetooth and WiFi, you cannot miss any calls, emails or notifications, even when you are out jogging, with your phone left at home.

The flexible band and 2" curved Super AMOLED display, provides a richer view with an easy-to-use and customizable user interface. Also, with the onscreen keyboard, you can reply emails and messages with just the Gear S. With 1000+ apps, you are definitely in for an experience!

So talking about jogging, the Samsung Gear S is also a perfect health and fitness companion with enhanced multi sensors, built in GPS, Enhanced S Health, to coach and help you achieve your healthy lifestyle and workout goals. There's even a UV sensor to warn you about the harmful sun rays, so you know the right kind of sun protection needed!

So if you have bling-ed up your phone covers, why not the Gear S as well? You can change colours and designs for the different occasions to match your clothing. Style up!

Last 2 would be the Samsung Gear Circle and Samsung Gear VR. The Samsung Gear Circle when paired with a smartphone or Gear S allows you to listen to music, answer calls and make voice commands wirelessly through Bluetooth connection. 

Coated with P2i Nano coating, the Gear Circle is protected against corrosion and water damages. And with the magnetic lock, you can easily clasps it around your neck when not in use. It's light weight and definitely boosts the VR experience when paired with the Samsung Gear VR.

The Gear VR currently only works with the Samsung Note 4. You can look to step into a whole new world without having to leave your house and with apps in development, you can watch a film, game or even immerse yourself in 360° educational tours!

What I experienced that day was a step into Tony Stark, Iron Man's garage. Have a walk around and watch some of the Avengers related videos. It was pretty cool to be a superhero for awhile and everything is easily controlled by the scroll pad on the side!

And here's my little experience of the Samsung Note 4, I know I can't wait to get my hands on the gadgets. I mean even photographer Kevin Ou is loving it, why not?
