Hi Huneybees,

Singapore Night Festival (SNF) 2023 is back! Presented by Samsung, this year, we are celebrating 700 years of Singapore’s port city history at Bras Basah.Bugis (BBB) precinct. Stories of Singapore’s rich heritage are expressed through multicolored light installations, captivating projection mappings, and an array of performances across the precinct. Throughout the nine-day festival (every night from 18 August until 26 August 2023, from 7:30pm - 12am) festival-goers can also look forward to special tours, artists' talks, and more.

With over 50 experiences, guided by the theme Singapore, the Great Port City, SNF 2023 sheds light on Singapore’s evolution from a vital port city to today’s dynamic modern metropolis. Here are some of the highlights of the festival...

2 700 Years (National Museum of Singapore)
Every year, the National Museum of Singapore is a must-go. This year, presented by Samsung, the festival’s Presenting Sponsor, projection mapping 700 Years by playwright Zizi Majid, illustrator Muhammad Izdi, and digital artist Jérémie Bellot (AV Extended) captivates festival-goers with a six-minute theatrical experience that takes them on a journey through 700 years of Singapore’s port city history.

1 Time is a Black Circle (National Museum of Singapore)
Time is a Black Circle by Dawn Ng, transports festival-goers to the roaring sixties and seventies to experience the discothèques located in the BBB precinct. Festival-goers can roller skate in a cylindrical “disco time portal” that resembles a vinyl record and relive a bygone era in their parents’ and grandparents’ dancing shoes, or choose the non-skating option where they may enjoy an immersive multisensorial experience that recalls the psychedelic colours and nostalgic tunes of the discothèque era. Tickets are available via Klook.

A Stone’s Throw (Away) by WY-TO Group, co-presented by the National Library Board

Festival-goers can snap a picture at four Night Lights installations - 6 A Stone’s Throw (Away) by WY-TO Group, co-presented by the National Library Board; 7 Rimbun by Shakir (a.k.a Grasshopper); 9 Preserving Paradise by Teo Huey Ling and 11 “Flowing Water Road” Shrine by Mindflyer, co-presented by Raffles City Singapore - using Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Flip5.

19 The festival grounds at Fort Canning come alive with SNF’s first dedicated family zone concentrated around Fort Canning Rise, in conjunction with the opening of the Children’s Museum of Singapore late last year, and artworks inspired by Singapore’s rich flora and fauna.

16 Over at the Main Festival Village @ SMU Campus Green, it is abuzz with live performances and food stalls in collaboration with Singapore Management University Arts Festival, The Social Post. The festival village features over 10 food and beverage stalls, as well as SNF-exclusive tipples to enjoy. Xtend Barre is a ballet and Pilates based workout designed to sculpt the body with fast paced music.

Luke started later, as a mostly self-taught drummer who dabbled in guitar. Uber Duber packs big, full sound into a small format band, while the varied backgrounds of its musicians lead to a wide range of genres and sounds.

Sat, 12 March 2016
9.30pm, 10.30pm
Two solo performers, Johan and Jerome, crossed paths in 2014, and things have never been the same.
The chemistry of the duo’s vocals and instruments will wow you. Their witty (and sometimes crude) jokes add to their unique act. Johan and Jerome are intensely passionate about music, and having fun on stage is second nature to them. Hear them play a huge range of genres, from the 80s and 90s to the current top 40s.

What's Installed For SHINE Youth Festival 2013

| |
Hi Huneybees,

The annual Shine Youth Festival is back and bigger, this 2013 encourages youth to act on their passion and champion causes for the community. Performances of Parkour performed on an obstacle course, with a creative (and sometimes playful) reinterpretation or subversion of urban space were put up during the media conference. Along with music performances by the Cajon Society which was reminiscent of Samba music through the drum beats. The festival uses art and music of bridge gaps across communities and allows youth to effect a long lasting impact in the societies they live in. Helping to nurture the arts and cultural expression in  our city.

The theme #Freeyouryou which incidentally sounds like free your youth is the campaigns hashtag, along with a "Pledge to shine" initiative which encourages youth to go out there and commit to a social cause or personal development. Make a pledge today at www.facebook.com/shineYouth.

Since 2005, the National Youth Council has been lighting up the Youth month of July with the Shine youth festival! a youth for youth initiative led by a committee of youth sector leaders and a team of youth volunteers.
The festival will kick off on 29th June at *SCAPE featuring performances from SMU, Singapore Street Festival, Dreamcatches and more.

PLEDGE TO SHINEPledge to Shine is a social, youth-driven initiative that encourages youth to express their commitment to action and showcase their talent.
PITCH TO SHINEPitch to shine is all about promoting a worth cause through the PITCH TO SHINE funding which identifies and funds youth projects that promote worthy causes and make a difference in the community.

Its main objectives are:
  • Seed projects with strong alignment with the Festival’s position and objectives
  • Identify projects/new partners with potential to become signature events/marquee or strategic partners for future SHINE festivals
  • Identify suitable projects/events that are scalable to be featured as party of shine festival launch or closing highlight.
  • Recipients of the PITCH TO SHINE award includes The Cajon Society who will be organizing workshops in their community to teach people their style of music and percussion.

Quotable quotes:
“I believe that peace is not merely an absence of war but the nurture of human life, and that in time this nurture would do away with war as a natural process.”
– Jane Addams
“Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love – for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment is it perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you from misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.”

1 September 2012 - Last Day to Catch the Night Festival 2012

Hi Huneybees,

Tomorrow is the last day to catch the Night Festival 2012. I just passed by the Singapore Arts Museum and there was huge crowd still even at 12 midnight! So make it a date tomorrow to catch the Night Festival 2012!

La Argentina.
The beautiful performers of Corredoras.
31th August 2012, Singapore – Some of the best of local and international contemporary acts enthralled the public with spectacular collaborations, as National Heritage Board (NHB) presented the final weekend of Night Festival 2012 tonight.

Corredoras - Performers leaping through the air against a silver-foiled curtain as part of the Corredoras performance by Fuerzabruta.
Night Festival was brought to a new high with Fuerzabruta, presented by Argentina’s Ozono Producciones. Three dazzling, never-seen-before acts in Singapore captivated the audience as performers danced and teased them in mid-air.

Mylar - Audiences interacting with the dancer through the suspended membrane of water as part of the Mylar performance at the Night Festival.

Like graceful water fairies, dancers in Mylar slid across a suspended transparent water-filled membrane that is 15 metres long. In Corredoras, two thespians somersaulted and chased each other across silver ribbons of curtains, like dandelion seeds in the wind.

At SMU Green, the public was treated to an evening of powerpop, dance beats, beatboxing and cross-genre with HOMEMADE, a segment by a group of local musicians who have come together to offer the audience a taste of local talent. HOMEMADE is headlined by Shelves, The Great Spy Experiment, DJ Koflow, Kiat, Beatboxer Dharni, Bruk Braders, Kevin Lester and Bloco Singapura.

The Night Festival took place on 24th & 25th August, and will be putting on its final show tomorrow, 1st September 2012, at the Bras Basah.Bugis Arts and Heritage Precinct. Armenian Street will be closed tomorrow from 8pm to 2am, for the performances.

For more information, please log on to www.brasbasahbugis.sg/nightfestival.
