Here’s something fun and unexpected - MyRepublic, the broadband provider many of us know and love, has just rolled out Singapore’s very first insurance plan created especially for geeks, gamers, and collectors. *Yup, you read that right.
If you’ve ever worried about your prized trading cards, limited-edition figurines, or even your beloved gaming gear getting damaged or lost, this new Geek Insurance might just be the peace of mind you’ve been looking for.
This new initiative was created in collaboration with HL Assurance, and it’s all about giving proper protection to high-value collectibles that traditional home insurance tends to overlook.
What exactly does Geek Insurance cover?
Whether you’re a serious collector or a casual enthusiast, Geek Insurance is designed with your niche treasures in mind. Coverage includes:
-
Trading Card Games (TCGs)
-
Figurines and Toys
-
Comic Books
-
Game Collections
-
Limited-Edition Merchandise
-
Memorabilia
-
And even personal electronic devices!
Basically, if it lives in your geek shrine or hobby corner, there’s a good chance it’s covered.
Why this matters
In Singapore, the collecting scene, especially around TCGs, figures, and gaming setups has grown a lot in recent years. But for many of us, our collections hold not just financial value but deep sentimental meaning too. And yet, these things often don’t fall under standard insurance coverage.
That’s where Geek Insurance steps in. With plans starting from just $4.90/month and up to $15,000 in coverage, it’s designed to be affordable, easy to manage (hello, simplified claims process), and tailored to the things we actually care about.
“MyRepublic has always embraced geek and gamer culture as part of our DNA. Geek Insurance is really close to our hearts where many of us are collectors ourselves. We understand just how much these items mean to people.” --- Lawrence Chan, Managing Director and Chief AI Officer at MyRepublic Broadband
Echoing that sentiment: “We designed this with collectors in mind because we get how personal and meaningful these hobbies can be.” --- Kelvin Lim, HL Assurance’s CEO
More than just broadband
With Geek Insurance, MyRepublic continues to show they’re more than just a broadband provider. They’re genuinely plugged into the interests and lifestyles of their community. And guess what? This isn’t the end, they’re also gearing up to launch a broader home insurance plan soon, so keep an eye out for that if you’re looking to level up your home protection.
