Hi Huneybees,

Deepavali 2025 in Singapore is set to shine brighter than ever as the Indian Heritage Centre (IHC) celebrates its 10th anniversary with a special edition of its much-loved Deepavali Open House. From 27 September to 19 October 2025, you can look forward to four weekends of cultural experiences, festive workshops, performances, and even IHC’s first-ever after-hours programme!

This year’s theme highlights the significance of flowers in Indian culture, with vibrant floral displays, hands-on crafts, and activities that capture the spirit of the Festival of Lights. Whether you’re exploring Little India for the first time or returning with family and friends, the IHC Deepavali Open House 2025 promises something for everyone.

About the Indian Heritage Centre

Located in the heart of Little India, the Indian Heritage Centre is a cultural institution managed by the National Heritage Board (NHB). Since its opening in 2015, it has been a key hub for learning about the history, heritage, and traditions of Singapore’s South Asian communities.

Housed in a modern four-storey building, the Centre features permanent galleries, a special exhibition space, educational activity rooms, and community programmes. It also serves as a springboard for exploring the historic Little India precinct, making it the perfect destination during the Deepavali season.

Happy Deepavali !!

Hi Huneybees,

Today is Deepavali (दीपावली ) also known as Diwali. It is the "festival of lights" and is a five day festival celebrated by Indians. Last night, I was at Little India, Singapore with my hubby to soak in the festive mood and to experience how the Eve of Deepavali in Singapore was celebrated...

Right at the entrance of Little India, we were welcomed by the the brightly lit-ed decorations. It was crazy traffic jam AND human jam!

Colourful street lighting in Little India
Tens of thousand of people were in the streets of Little India soaking the atmosphere of Deepavali

Some of the shops along the street was opened till pretty late and it was definitely shopping time for me!!

Shops are operated later than usual for many last minute shoppers
Temples like this one were already decorated for worshipers coming in a few hours time
Many street vendors like this lined along the streets of Little India
There were many doing last minute shopping.
There were so many different colours of sari on sales!
Didn't know that Indian also into cardboard lanterns like us Chinese!
Snacks for sales for late shoppers!
Woah! Such a huge fire cracker!
Many temporary street markets have been setup by authority for businessmen, days leading to Deepavali in Little India

A popular representation of Deepavali in Singapore
I found a cute chibi version of Ganesh!
Bangles such these are imports from India
A colourful Indian market would not without traditional Hana hand painting
Yipee! I got Henna done too!
A day for celebration for both young and old.
Celebration really starts when the clock strikes midnight on 13th November!
Foam can spray is widely used on the streets,  no-one, including ourselves were able to escape!
I have never seen such wild celebration with fire crackers and party sprays on the streets of Singapore before. What a nice scene to behold!!

The festive scene last night at Little India surely reminded me of my fond memories in India this September!
Last but not least, wishing all my Indian friends an reader a Happy Deepavali!
