Enough Of K-Pop, Back To Mando-Pop

I'm having a such a K-wave headache these days. Everywhere I go, every turn I take, K-pop music is playing. It's kinda not so fun when you shop with music that you don't understand eh?

I agree that the K-pop singers are adorable handsome and pretty but this foreign language and its wave is getting on my nerves. Though the songs are catchy and dance-y, half the time I don't understand what they are singing, so I was like "OK! Enough of K-pop! It's time to go back to my roots!" 

And that was when I was horrified by the Mandopop scene! Starting with my favourite idol - Show Luo 羅志祥, everyone has been saying that his image in the MV of 愛投羅網 is copying the likes of popular K-pop singer of G Dragon of Big Bang. Not just him, there's more! 

Will Pan 潘瑋柏 is looking more and more like Taeyang and even the always known as the sweet, pretty face singer Cyndi Wang 王心凌 is now looking sexier, a little too much resemblance to Hyuna?! Even her latest MV - Baby Boy, was a tad too much like Hyuna's Bubble Pop/Ice Cream?

ARGHH!!! Luckily, there are still those that stuck to their own style, with displaying their vocals as the main target. These are some of the new song releases in the recent few months and one of my favourite has got to be Miss Ko and Khalil Fong 方大同. Their songs are so original and they have both brought in some of their Western influence into their songs. I find that is then the right amount of cross culture and not total copying!

Catch Julie Tan And Her K-pop Friends On Channel U's A Date with K-pop Stars (我和韩星有个约会)

Channel U has collaborated with Korea’s CJ E&M to bring us a new exciting program this February! MediaCorp artiste -  Julie Tan (陈欣淇) is joined by her K-pop friends as they show us around in the Korea reality travel program - A Date with K-pop Stars <<我和韩星有个约会>>.



This is definitely not your typical Korean travel program where you will be shown the usual tourist attractions. Julie will be living with Dal Shabet at their dormitory to experience the Korean culture and live the Korean way of life. 

Other K-pop stars such as Rainbow, Teen Top, Hwang Kwang Hee from ZE:A, Moon Hee Joon, Saerom, A-Jax, Clara, Jewelry etc, would also bring her around their favourite hunts, help Julie clear her bucket-list of things to do such as eating live octopus and wearing the Korean towel bun or ‘sheep head’ at the Jjimjilbang. Julie even gets to catch a glimpse of her K-pop idol G-dragon on the trip!

At the media preview, I got to catch the first episode and it was a refreshing change to the local TV programs. The show is in English, Chinese and Korean, totally no dubbing and it reminded me quite a bit of "SHINee Hello Baby", where the stars are so real and like Julie had shared, everything was free flow, no special scripts and also no specific editing was done. So, you get to watch Julie and the K-pop stars in their "true colours".

The places that were introduced in the first episode already got me intrigued (I don't want to overshare and spoil it for you). I've been planning for my upcoming Korea trip and I bet those tips will come in handy. I can't wait to catch the next episode. Don't forget to stay tuned to A Date with K-pop Stars <<我和韩星有个约会>>!
