Sentosa is taking its sustainability journey up a notch with RISE (Rallying Island Sustainability Efforts) - a brand-new interactive showcase at Beach Station, running till December 2024. Designed to spark curiosity and inspire eco-friendly habits, RISE brings together art installations, hands-on workshops, and real-life stories from the businesses on the island who are working together to cut down their carbon footprint.
It’s not just about talking green! The showcase is built from repurposed materials collected from Sentosa hotels, attractions, and resorts. Think bedsheets transformed into marine life art, or plastic bottles reimagined as display backdrops. Each exhibit is a creative reminder that sustainability doesn’t have to be boring, and that every small step adds up when an entire community gets involved.
What You’ll Find at RISE
Whole-of-Island Collaboration
RISE spotlights the work of the Sentosa Carbon Neutral Network (SCNN) that is a collective of resorts, hotels, attractions, and F&B outlets on the island committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. Since the launch of the Sustainable Sentosa Roadmap in 2021, members have joined forces on initiatives like reducing disposables, cutting emissions, and conserving habitats.
Here are some creative ways SCNN members’ contributions have been repurposed into the showcase:

1,388 plastic bottles phased out by W Singapore – Sentosa Cove now form part of an installation backdrop.

338 amenity kit bottles from Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa have been turned into a display piece.

48 bedsheets from Resorts World Sentosa and 18 juice bottles from Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa were upcycled into a seagrass and marine life installation.
It’s a strong visual cue of how waste from the hospitality industry can be reduced, reused, and recycled into something meaningful.

RISE isn’t your typical info board exhibition. It’s colourful, hands-on, and designed with the help of sustainability advocates and local artists. Some highlights include:

Droplets of Change
Rising “bubbles” painted by local environmentalist Woo Qiyun (@theweirdandwild) represent growing environmental threats — and Sentosa’s efforts to combat them through solarisation, EV adoption, and more. -

A marine conservation-inspired installation crafted from repurposed bedsheets and plastics. -

Fun facts about Sentosa’s push to go fully electric by 2025, displayed along Beach Station tram and bus stops. -

A vibrant mural mapping out ways you can lower your carbon footprint while exploring Sentosa’s dining, transport, and leisure offerings.
Hands-On: miniTrashLab Workshop
One of the biggest draws at RISE is the miniTrashLab upcycling workshop. For $59.90, you can transform plastic waste (sourced from decommissioned Luge carts and kayaks!) into your own pair of custom upcycled sunglasses. It’s run in collaboration with Miniwiz, an expert in upcycling tech, and lets you walk away with a stylish, wearable keepsake that carries a powerful reminder: innovation and collaboration can make circular living possible.
