What I Like About The New Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+

I am very excited to share with you about my thoughts on the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ , which were finally unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 25th February 2018 and in Singapore on the following day to invited media!

While critics might be crying foul about the insignificant improvement to the hardware specification compare to Galaxy S8 and S8+ ,  many others like myself  applaused the effort by Samsung to explore ways to harvest the power of technology to reimagine the way we communicate tomorrow with some super cool features like Super Slow-mo and AR Emoji!

Although slow motion features are already available in most smartphone today, Samsung up the playing field with its new "Super Slow-mo" feature that allows user of the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ to capture key action moments and transform them into epic videos at a rate of 960 frames per second.
Imagine making an eight-time Olympic gold-medallist Usain Bolt looks slow at his next sprint, user has the option to either choose between auto and manual mode to capture up to 20 such videos on the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ .

One's Avatar can be created by AR Emoji (a built-in app) from the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+

My personal favourite feature was the AR Emoji! Not only could the user create his or her own avatar from the built-in application (no WiFi required!) on the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ by snapping one's imagine from either the front or rear camera of the smartphone, the user could also customize his or her avatar from a choice of hair do, skin tone and cloths!

While creating one's avatar was cool, it was the ability to do a live presentation using your own avatar, which will mimic your expression while using Samsung native messenger that was really awesome!! With up to 35 quick and easy expression options to choose from, the user could also share his or her avatar in GIF format with friends via popular messenger platform like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

The new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, priced from SGD1198, come in three (3) colours - Midnight Black, Coral Blue, and Lilac Purple - and will be available for pre-order online (without contact) on 1st March 2018, 12pm at major consumer electronics & IT stores' websites in Singapore or via the Samsung store online.

All consumers who purchase Galaxy S9 or S9+ will be entitled to a complimentary Samsung Concierge Care Pack worth SGD128 and exclusive trade-in value for their eligible device of up to $610 via the Samsung Trade Up (SG) app, upon full payment during collection of their Galaxy S9 or S9+ from 10 March 2018.  What's more, purchasers of Galaxy S9+ (256GB) will also receive a Wireless Charger Stand (Black) worth SGD108 during collection of their Galaxy S9+ (256GB) upon full payment, on a while stocks last basis.

[Movie Review] John Carter

Thanks to Disney Singapore and Nuffnang, I could catch John Carter before it's official launch! It was my wedding anniversary that day too and I was super glad that I was given a pair of tickets, so I could share this moment with hubby too!



A century ago (February 1912), Edgar Rice Burroughs' fantasy adventure, 'Under the Moons of Mars' began to be serialised in a magazing called The All-Story. The serial was about a former American Civil War soldier transported to Mars and plunged into a conflict between its various races.It was collected into a novel called 'A Princess of Mars' and got publishes in October 1917. That novel is the basis for the film John Carter, starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe.

The Marvel title is a full-colour, hardcover graphic novel collecting its 1977-1979 series of comics by writer Mary Wolfman. It includes tart from (among others) the late Dave Cockrum, known to X-Men fans as the co-creator of Storm, Nightcrawler and Colossus.

The movie John Carter followed closely to the comic and together with the help of modern technology, the comic came alive in this new blockbuster.

Synopsis of the movie:

From Academy Award®–winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes “John Carter”—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

My take on the movie:

I like this movie as the storyline is pretty interesting, not only was it a action packed movie, the producers did not forget to add in some romance and humor; also alot of reference to actual Mars is made. But both hubby and me couldn't resist comparing this movie to that of Star Wars. Probably 'coz we grew up watching Star Wars?

Like above, the Tharks reminded us alot of Jar Jar Binks (except stronger), there were also moments of the Force and podracing. Me and hubby were literally shouting out the moments to each other while watching the movie. There was also alot of moments that reminded us of  '300', 'Avatar' & 'Clash of the Titans'. It felt a little like the grand mash-up of all these movies.

The 3D works and make-believe world of Barsoom (Mars) is so real that it makes one believe that life on Mars is possible and that aliens DO exist. Some parts of the movie are pretty predictable, not much of a climax, except for the little twist towards the end of the movie. 

One thing I love is the body of both the lead actor, Taylor and actress, Lynn. Not only are there packs of muscles to drool over, for once, the lead actress is not just some pretty figure, sweet dolls. Lynn had muscles at all the right places, she fought like a warrior and I bet her deep sultry voice would have made lots of guys dreaming... :D

I give the movie 3.5 out of 5 popcorns.

[Movie Review] - Colombiana

I recently got tickets from F*** Magazine to watch Colombiana. It's a movie directed by Olivier Megaton, produced by Ariel Zeitoun, Luc Besson and written by Luc Besson, Robert Mark Kamen. The lead actress is Zoe Saldana and she acts alongside Jordi Molla, Lennie James, Michael Vartan and Cliff Curtis.

Zoe Saldana is no stranger to the movie scene. Some of the popular characters she played would be Anamaria in the Curse of the Black Pearl where she played as a female pirate who signed up to join Mr. Gibbs and Will Turner, for a chance to confront Jack Sparrow for stealing her ship years ago.

She was also the character behind Na’vi Neytiri in Avatar. She played the character, CG-ed for the character and the voice behind it all. Basically lead actress for the movie.

After the introduction to who Zoe Saldana is, let me talk about the movie. Zoe plays the character Cataleya in the Colombiana. Her family was killed right before her very eyes when she was still a child and she managed to flee to USA to find her uncle, where she grew up to be a professional killer. Her main goal was to hunt down and revenge on the mobster that murdered her parents.

Expect to see lots of action, hard chasing, super lots of gun fights and blood in the movie. One scene that I marked as signature of Luc Besson would be in the beginning when the mobster was chasing Cataleya, the young child, street after street. The guys and the little girl would jump off rooftops and sliding off floors super sleek and reminded me of Luc Besson's early film, Yamakasi. He was the one who Parkour into the light with this film and now it seems like it's a signature of his, in almost of his films.

I was very much entertained by the movie, but when it ended, it kinda occurred to me that this movie is definitely not the kind I would recommend kids to watch. What's the moral behind the movie? Revenge on whoever did bad to you? Where's the love? Where's the peace?

I know chick with mega guns are hot, but isn't it a little too violent to teach vengeance? And like Cataleya towards the end, is revenge all? What happens when revenge is exacted?

I give the movie 3.5 popcorns out of 5 as I like how the movie was executed, fighting scenes were exciting, something was happening every scene, keeping me sitting at the edge of my seat. But I gotta deduct points for the ultra violence....
