The region's largest consumer jewelry show, Singapore International Jewelry Expo (SIJE) 2016, is back with more than US$150 million in exhibitions by 200 exhibitors from 25 countries.
Over the next four days, from 21st till 24th July 2016, visitors to SIJE will get to behold a 27-carat flawless round, brilliant GIA certified diamond priced at SGD3.5 million presented by IVY Masterpiece and a US$5 million Burma Ruby necklace weighting in at 82-carat in total at the DeGem International booth.
The crown jewel of the show is a piece of historical significance, an emerald pendant, carved and shaped by Fortunato Pio Castellani in the 19th century, from the private collection of Roberto Sciaguato. It was gifted by Napoleon III to his lover, Countess of Castiglione
Recalling a tour at Asia Civilization Museum a few months back where I had a chance to witness the fine workmanship of Asian handicraft and jewelry craftsmanship of past, I thought all these have been lost to modernization until I visited Nahdi Jewellery booth from Indonesia. Two of such fine pieces are Mabe Chokker (SGD1,800) and Mamuli Necklace (SGD80 only!) from NTT Indonesia, which is a symbol of fertility.
Apart from traditional jewelries, Nahdi Jewellery also carries modern style such as the traditional Padang Bracelet made of silver and real pearls (SGD500) and the interesting Mesh jewelries made from chopper wire!
