Ever wonder what happens when the clock strikes at the special 11.11 timing? Come step into the brand-new white-and grey Cirque du Soleil Big Top next to Marina Bay Sands to experience KURIOS - Cabinet of Curiosities, in which time comes to a complete stop, transporting the audience inside a fantasy world where everything is possible.
Written and directed by Michel Laprise, the former show director of Madonna's MDNA, KURIOS brings us into the latter half of the nineteenth century, to utterly transformed our perception of the steampunk-themed reality.
While we continue to applaud Cirque du Soleil for re-innovate street performance and circus art to mainstream and continue to fascinate but also remind us what the wonders of what the human body can do, KURIOS really sets itself apart from its peers with a whole new take on the usual circus acts by bringing them to another level!
One such is the Aerial Bicycle where an acrobat jumps on her acrobatic bicycle suspended in midair and hangs on in a variety of positions - on the handlebar stem or on the wheel, by a foot or by an arm. She even settles onto the seat, hands on the handlebars and feet on the pedals, playing with the bicycle fluently even riding it upside down! We would normally see this act where the acrobat would play in tandem with a hoop suspended in the air, with the act elevated and switching the prop into a bicycle, makes it even more dangerous.
Another act that left me and hubby in awe is the beautifully choreographed Upside Down World. A simple dinner affair amongst friends turned out to be a challenge to reach the chandelier above their heads. A chair balancing act turns into a poetic scenery as a parallel universe descends upside down
and both groups compete against each other through feats of ingenuity and daring to achieve their ends.
KURIOS is definitely an elevated show from any of the Cirque du Soleil shows that we have seen before, do catch them before they leave Singapore and don't forget to bring home some souvenirs before leaving...

Set in a story plot of an alternate yet familiar past, in a place where wonders abound for those who trust their imagination, a scientist (“The Seeker”) is convinced that there exists a hidden world – a place where the craziest ideas and the grandest dreams await.
Out of his curio cabinet steps an international cast of 47 artists from 17 countries, a collection of otherworldly characters made up of world-class gymnasts, acrobats, contortionists, hand-puppeteers, yo-yo wizards, clowns, actors, and musicians.
