After attending the Cold War <寒战> Press Conference, I can confirm that this is a movie not be missed. And after watching the movie, I must say go watch it again! Not only it is a big budget action film boasting a star studded casts like Andy Lau, Aaron Kwok, Tony Leung, EddiePeng, Aarif Rahman, Charlie Yeung, it's also a movie that got my mind working like crazy guessing who are the hijackers etc.
The style of the movie is pure quicksilver procedural, right from the beginning of the movie, the audiences are thrown right into the situation without much draggy introduction. It's like we are part of the police team and our mission is to save our fellow police colleagues....
This is one of my favourite scene. Aaron and Tony as 2 of the Deputy Commissioner of Hong Kong police force where they were debating in front of the whole office in the police headquarters.
The main players are two deputy HK police commissioners: super hotshot Sean Lau (Aaron Kwok) and hard-liner M.B. Lee (Tony Leung Ka-fai) who’s pushing retirement age. While the chief commissioner is out of the country, Lee has been appointed acting commissioner with all the enormous power it entails. Even though both men want to protect the wealth fare of Hong Kong and the safety of its citizens, their conflicting perspectives exploded right in the opening scenes.
The non stop action keeps tension high scene after scene, blending confidently into character development and there was no time for you to blink! Something's always happening. What didn't really flow was the introduction of the ICAC team. It really felt like a 2nd Director had stepped in and threw in a few scenes of his own...
Other than action, they also did not fail to inject some humour as well some tear jerking moments. I must say this movie has surpassed the much talked about trilogy - Infernal Affairs (無間道) and got me sunk right into the movie trying to crack the case only to find the twists in story so unexpected. Fans of Sherlock Holmes? Go Figure!
The colours were out of the movie, leaving only shades of gray with sweeping crane and aerial shots of day/nighttime Hong Kong with its neon-lit buildings are simply gorgeous and made me wana fly to Hong Kong tomorrow!
Anyway, the best part of the movie is at the end of the film itself. Remember don’t leave your seat YET when you see the credits coming up. Shortly after it, there’s a small part at the end!
Aaron Kwok (郭富城), together with directors Sunny Luk(陸劍青) and Longman Leung (梁乐民), appeared in Singapore today to promote their latest movie - Cold War (寒战) - and I have been invited to cover the Press Conference at Pan Pacific Hotel today.
The 47-year-old Aaron Kwok played Sean Lau, the Deputy Commissioner of
administrative services of the HK police force who challenged Waise Lee (played by Tony Leung Ka Fai 梁家辉), the Deputy Commissioner of operations, for the authority to take charge of the rescue operation, code named Cold War.
The odd is against the police force to rescue the 5 kidnapped officers and their fully-loaded police van carrying the force's most advance equipment as the hijackers possessed direct knowledge of police procedures and were
already several steps ahead.
The police must meet a list of demands to
ensure the hostages’release, including the delivery of a large ransom.
Any delay will cost lives and the clock has begun to tick.
An action packed movie that tackles the politics and power struggles within the police force, unlike the typical police versus gangster films, Cold War hopes to re-create the success of 2002's "Infernal Affairs".

Aaron Kwok is back in Singapore this September to memorise his fans with his De Showy Masquerade World Tour Live in Concert 2012 - 郭富城《舞临盛宴》世界巡回演唱会[新加坡站]2012.
Back from his 17 performances in Hong Kong, Aaron Kwok (郭富城) will be bring his HK$12 million "Transformer‟ stage ( “变形金刚” 舞台)to Singapore for a one-night only concert on 8th September in Singapore Indoor Stadium.
According to reports, the HK$12 million "Transformer‟ stage ( “变形金刚” 舞台) could produce six trampolines of different sizes, transformed from the bottom of the stage, allowing Aaron to fly two meters through the air, while performing breathtaking dance moves - the climate of the show!!!
Needless to say, Aaron Kwok (郭富城) took less than three weeks to master the feat, which would normally have taken others at least one to two years to achieve!

Last night I was invited by OMY.sg to the preview of Love In Space 2011 <<全球热恋>>. From the poster, you guys can see, it's a movie with star studded cast and it is a sequel to last year's romantic comedy, Hot Summer Days <<全城热恋>>, which has Rene Liu and Angelababy starring in it too.
But it's OK if you did not watch that last year, because Love In Space 2011 is nothing related, except for the topic of L.O.V.E.
I know the title can be pretty misleading but it's definitely not a movie about aliens falling in love. In fact it's a romantic comedy that follows a mother and her 3 daughters as they go through their love stories. The movie is set in 3 different places, Sydney, Beijing and even the Moon (where the 'Space' in the title comes from)!
The eldest daughter played by Rene Liu is up in space with her ex Aaron Kwok. Both successful astronauts, stubborn and have very different opinions, can't seem to shake the issue of their breakup and continued their love story in the space shuttle that they were assigned to.
But just a question: why is it that the space shuttle is so big, there's only just the 2 of them to take care of the shuttle?
Second daughter Lily (Kwai Lun Mei) who lives in Sydney has OCD - Phobia of being dirty, paradoxically falls in love with a disheveled garbage collector (Eason Chen). Can you guess if it will be happy ending for them?
The youngest daughter, Huang Mu Dan (Angelababy) got most of the male audience sitting at the edge of their seats. Her beauty was so attractive, so how can Wen Feng (Jing Boran) escape from her clutches?! She plays an actress who went to work as a waitress to get into the role of her new film, falls in love with a guys who works as a waiter by day and moonlights as a watermelon peddler by night. What will happen when he finds out that she's been lying all the while?
I must say the movie reminds me heavily of the movie "Love Actually". This would be like the Asian version of it. I love how they injected tons of laughing points in the movie, but it's kinda pity to see super star actor and actress, Aaron Kwok and Rene Liu, just acting silly in the movie. Their acting skills were not put to a test and there was no breaking point.
Whereas I thought Eason Chen caught my attention. He stand out a lot with his acting and also the accent when he spoke in English, I would dare say he was the male lead of the movie, rather than Aaron Kwok. Aaron and Rene were like just put in the movie to boosts ticket sales.
I'm giving the movie a 3.5 out of 5 popcorns review. It would have been a 4 if not for the little slip-ups in the movie making. There was some minor mistakes like wrong axis of characters when cutting scenes and missing props in certain scenes. ( Hehe! Guess my studying about film making made me more attentive to details).
Love In Space is so light-hearted, I would recommend you guys to watch it after a hard day's work, watch it with friends or just bring a lover along for some hugs and kisses while watching? :X
I shall end with the remake version of Teresa Tang's <<月亮代表我的心>>, sang by the cast of the movie... =)
